Chapter 4
NORAH
Sitting at the dinner table with Mama, Norah picked at her food with so many disquieted thoughts.
She and Mama had been indulging in small talk but Mama could tell something was on her mind that she chose not to speak upon.
Mama gave her time, and knew when she was ready, she'd come to her.
One thing, Mama and Norah had a relationship like friends.
Norah would go to her grandmother for everything and even discussed her love life.
However, because Tasim was a Kingly Norah was afraid to openly discuss him.
Ding.
The sound of the doorbell made Norah quickly look down to her phone and open the Ring app. It was him. Tasim boldly stood on the porch ringing the door bell and Norah's heart began to beat inside her chest.
"It's him, Mama. Please can you tell him I'm not home." Norah begged and Mama nodded. For some reason, Mama figured it was Tasim so she lifted from her seat and rushed to the door.
From her phone, Norah could see the door opening and Mama addressing Tasim.
"Hey Tasim."
"Hey Mama. I was looking for Norah. She ain't been answering my calls."
"What you do?" Mama asked and Norah fell out laughing.
"I ain't do shit." Tasim chuckled. "She just stubborn as hell and prolly mad I couldn't make it to pick her up. I got kinda busy." Tasim lied and Norah shook her head.
"Oh, she's stubborn as hell."
Damn lady who sided you on.
Norah thought giggling.
"She went to the store for me. She just left but she had to go pay a few bills and for me and see her brother." Mama lied her ass off.
Damn.
Norah cursed because the minute she said it, Dragon's red corvette pulled into the driveway.
"Oh okay. Tell her hit me."
"I sure will." Mama smiled at him and pulled the door closed. Tasim didn't bother leaving the porch because he waited for Dragon to climb out the car.
When Dragon made his way to the porch, Norah continued to listen to their conversion. Tasim asked about Norah but Dragon mentioned he hadn't seen much of her. They then began discussing a new strand of weed Dragon had.
Closing the app, Norah looked at Mama and released a sigh. She knew Mama was about to ask questions that she wasn't prepared to answer. What was she gonna say? "I hate him because he fucked me to good." although Norah and Mama had that kind of relationship she wouldn't dare.
"So, what happened? And don't lie Norah."
"Nothing Ma. He just stood me up and I really hate inconsistency." Norah lied remembering what Tasim had told Mama.
"Yeah, but Norah things happen. By the looks of Tasim, he's a well-groomed and busy man. Trust me he didn't mean it because he wouldn't be here looking for you. Ain't none of your little skilithies ever came to this door."
"Mamaaa." Norah started busting up laughing. She knew Mama had gotten the word from her and Dallas discussing men.
"You gave him some?" Mama asked and Norah's heart sank. Norah nodded and dropped her head.
"That explains it all. That man looking for you in the daytime and in his mind, he had a flash light." Mama giggled.
"Whaaa?"
"Nothing child." Mama waved her off because it went right over Norah's head. "Was it good?" Mama asked and again Norah nodded.
"So, what's the problem?"
"That's the problem. It was too damn good." Norah released a sigh and Mama's eyebrows raised.
"Oh, I see. Yeah, I don't know what to tell you. I can tell you don't wanna love this man so if it was good, you definitely gonna be like a whipped puppy." They both laughed although the conversation was odd.
"Mama, can I ask you a question? It's off topic."
"Of course."
Norah looked at Mama and swallowed hard.
"What’s so bad about the Kingly Dynasty?" Norah asked nervously. Because Mama didn't answer right away this made Norah more apprehensive.
"Don't you dare set foot in that place, child. Them people are evil and things go on in there that are unexplainable. Those mothafuckas should be in jail." Mama frowned and it was like she had gone into a daze thinking about something that bothered her mentally.
Mama had always been tight-lipped about the mansion and its history, but Norah pieced together fragments of stories from the townspeople.
They spoke of a family torn apart by greed and ambition.
She even heard of people who'd died under mysterious circumstances.
Most of the people were never found and the ones that were, their deaths were ruled overdose.
Because of the eerie feeling Norah had gotten from the Dynasty she began asking around.
The outcome of the results made her wonder if Dallas had actually been murdered and her body never discovered.
Just by the pain in Mama's eyes, it made Norah feel uneasy.
Because of this she decided to call Hannah and see if just possibly she could get a search warrant and just check to see if her friend is there.
She needed her to do something and fast. Since the day she left the Dynasty, this had been on her mind heavily.
She had even gone by Big Boy's crib to see if there were any signs of Dallas but there was not even sound from Big Boy.
Everything was just strange and until she heard something she wouldn't rest.
