Laurel Prescott is driving back into Ladera, Texas, a town of a few thousand she never meant to see again after the future chosen for her tore her from Calder Boone.

Ten years have passed since she watched that cowboy drop a steer at sunset and grin up at her in the stands, certain she was already his.

The land and sky are unchanged, but Calder is not: he has been toughened by years she missed and hides the damage where no one is allowed to look.
