Lennox
It is so good to be back on set. They stalled the final week of filming due to the accident so I could properly recover.
I hated not working.
Okay, fine. I hated not working side-by-side with Jace. I missed Jace.
Missing all that time wasn’t really necessary because hair and makeup could have easily covered the cut on my head and I took the sling off the moment I got home, not listening to the ‘couple weeks’ suggestion the nurse told me.
Instead I spent my recovery period thinking back on those days in the hospital and how meticulous Jace was in making sure I was being taken care of. I didn’t even need to stay, but he insisted they keep me there until the doctor cleared me of my concussion watch.
That finally happened and when we left I asked him if he wanted to come home with me and be my nurse. Mind you, if it weren’t for the sling and the few stitches you would have never guessed I was even in an accident.
I didn’t need a nurse. I just wanted him.
He blushed, then told me he had to fly back home for a meeting with his mom. It was an odd statement. A meeting as opposed to spending time with her.
Even with all the media craze over the video he stayed. He stayed for me and it changed something inside me, making me come face-to-face with my already intense feelings. So, when we parted, it hurt and that’s when I knew this was so much more for me.
We chatted a lot those first few days, then he became a little distant. His text messages were short but I assumed it was because he was busy or recovering from time with his insufferable mother.
“Quiet on set,” the assistant director calls out, tearing me from my thoughts. “Scene 49, Take 2. And Action!”
I beam a smile back at Jace, dressed in full costume as James Davis in front of the green screen. “Thank you, San Francisco!” I scream into the mic then stride in his direction.
It’s the final scene. The last time I’ll stand across from him dressed up as the irresistible rock star and I want nothing more than this last on-screen kiss to last forever. It’s the only time I can love him in public.
I use the word love loosely, but I know that doesn’t do it justice. Not when he’s done nothing but tattoo himself permanently on my soul.
Admittedly, I watched the video of Jace during the accident and no one has ever looked as frantic as he did.
I’ve never had a family to take care of me or anyone care what happens to me, but he did.
Even if he didn’t make a statement to the media about how he reacted, his actions said what he couldn’t in words.
Iron Horizon’s journey was spectacular, in both real life and what we’ve filmed for their story. After years of hiding who they were and what they were to each other, they finally came out to the world and this is the first kiss they had in public in front of anyone.
Sure, some people alienated them, boycotted the band. But, fans and other artists united in their truth and it was groundbreaking for the music industry. Especially in their time.
It feels a little like what our story could be. I just don’t know that Jace is ready for anything more than just our secret hook ups, masked by the movie and our on-screen chemistry.
Stepping toward him, I cup my hands around his cheeks then draw his face to mine. My lips collide with his, it’s soft and sensual as my tongue caresses his and I can’t help but hum into his mouth.
Squeezing my eyes shut, I take everything in. The desire I have for him, the scent of him—sea and sandstone that’s clean and sharp. I need more. I want more.
Filming has been an excuse to be close to him, to spend an unrelenting amount of time together and, fuck, I never want this to end.
“CUT! AND THAT’S A WRAP!” Pierre calls out and the entire cast and crew claps as they hoot and holler.
Jace recoils but I don’t relent. My fingers move to grip around his neck, desperate to not let him go and I kiss him deeper.
“Come see me tonight.” I muffle around his lips as a demand not a question.
“We shouldn’t,” he replies, but he hasn’t stopped kissing me.
Fuck that.
“Please.” I’m not ashamed to beg.
“Len—”
“Cut, fellas!” Wren calls out with a smile. She’s proud of us, she should be I think. She single-handedly coordinated every single one of our intimacy scenes and she’s bloody brilliant.
I pull back, tearing myself away reluctantly, returning a smile to her.
“Sorry, didn’t hear you.”
Jace runs the top of his hand over his mouth, hiding his smile, then claps along with everyone else.
The crew hugs each other and us, everyone congratulating the work family we’ve built over the last few months and it all feels surreal.
Happiness radiates throughout the room with the celebration but my heart aches at the idea of not seeing them or Jace daily.
The previous movies and shows I’ve filmed didn’t feel like this.
Partially, it’s the other cast members and crew, but not knowing what’s going to happen between me and Jace is physically killing me.
“Alright you two. Make-up trailer then go have some fun. Splurge and take the night off, eh?” Wren suggests jokingly, but that’s exactly how I’d like to spend my night. Splurging on this fucking gorgeous man.
We walk in unison toward the trailer as I start to remove my fingerless gloves and try to reel myself in to ask him nicely to come over.
“Come to my trailer later.”
Well, that wasn’t it.
I palm my face. “I mean—”
He raises an eyebrow at me and smirks.
“What’s that scheming look for?”
“I was planning on it. I just like it when you’re desperately bossy.”
My brows hit my hairline at his confession. “Well,” I clear my throat, “I can be all kinds of bossy.”
His cheeks flush and I love that I can pull that out of him.
“I’ll see you later then,” he says as he veers off toward his side of the makeup trailer.
“Promise?” I say, blindly stepping backward as I walk away.
He looks over his shoulder and smiles.
God, I love that smile.
His eyes beam a very specific shade of blue when it’s the one not reserved for the cameras and I’m terrified of the void I’ll feel when I don’t get to see it anymore.
