3 Kayos #2
From the same spot she just came in from, we heard a man shouting profanities about the residence.
He’d been collared, being dragged out in chains by Sellers.
In front of them was a cold body being dragged openly on a tarp.
The two in white suits made it known who they were as they curtly nodded to Kit for whatever arrangement was taking place.
“You bitch!” the boy shouted and raged at her. She seemed unperplexed by his weak advances. “I’ll kill you one day! I’ll get you.”
Raphael went over to the body and whistled while removing a gutting knife from the eye of the corpse. “Is this mine?”
“I couldn’t find mine. You know how I get when vengeance calls to me.” She shrugged. “Would you mind leading the Sellers out the entrance they came in? You know what to do after.”
“And the body?” he waited for instruction.
“She means nothing. Dump her in the river.”
“Fuck you!” The boy tried to break free to get to her. He’d strangle her if he did.
“I’m sorry, what did you think would happen when you went back on your oath?” She stopped studying her nails to glare at him. “This was the consequence you asked for the moment you broke it. You have no one to blame but your measly self. Enjoy your new home.”
Waving goodbye at him, Raphael guided them out in a completely different direction than we came in. It made me wonder how many entrances they had into this place, but I knew Kit was smart enough to cover her tracks. There’d be no way she’d lead Sellers into her home through a main door.
“Now, where was I?” We still heard the faint screaming of the boy echoing in their departure.
“Greeting our new guests,” Anika reminded her.
“Right!” she laughed. “How silly of me. Sorry, it’s been an eventful night. Two packs needing saved, and a backstabbing lover.”
“Two packs?” Ryatt caught what she said.
“You’ll find out more about that later. For now, I’ll cover the ground rules then Anika will escort you to your quarters.
I’m sure you’re all needing a good rest after that.
I’m assuming the sixth man with you is your Omega?
Huh, you finally found one good enough for your lifestyle.
” She hadn’t noticed Jericho until that moment, but now he was all she could see.
Whether the others saw it or not, I did.
A flash of hurt took over her features before she could hide it.
“We have a lot to catch up on. You know, like you belonging to a new Alpha,” I growled.
Moving her hair out of the way, she let us all see the bite that bound her to someone else. “You’re right. I do belong to him. Now, why don’t we just get to what needs sharing, and we’ll go our separate ways?”
A cleaning crew came in from the other end of the room, beginning to get the streaks of blood off the floor that fell from the tarp with the corpse. I was amazed at everyone’s quickness to handle business here, and they all looked happy to do it.
“First rule, you never go above ground without permission. I’m risking the safety of my pack to protect you, so you will do well to respect that. Second, no drugs or deals will be made in my home.”
“Kit, that’s our line of work,” Ryatt protested. We were the ones who moved the most in the city.
“I won’t repeat myself on that one. A lot of my pack were once homeless due to drugs, so I will not tolerate drugs in my home that is also theirs.
If you cannot agree to that, you’re more than welcome to leave and figure it out on your own.
Though, I’d advise against it. This enemy has eyes everywhere without being seen themselves. We’re still hunting them.”
“No drugs,” Kashmir agreed without our consent.
He was probably like me and wanted to know more about how Kit ended up here.
Plus, we weren’t safe above ground, and we needed everyone to believe we were dead.
Leia’s name was already on our accounts, so she’d run the business from her spot in hiding.
“Good. Now, we’re asking you to not wander all day because the smell of other packs isn’t enjoyable for any of us.
Your quarters host everything you’ll need while you’re here, and we have a rotating schedule for the training room, if you’d like to exercise.
Seeing how I knew it was you coming, I put you on the schedule for the late morning time. ”
“Thanks,” I mumbled to be polite.
“You’re welcome.” My act of kindness pleased her.
“In your room, you’ll see set times and meals that will come to your living space.
In a few days, we’ll host a dinner for everyone to meet, but we figured a few days of settling was needed first. Last rule, no fighting or arguing my command or other packs.
As long as you’re okay with all of that, you can stay. ”
Our group looked to each other, knowing there wasn’t any other option. Ryatt took point to reply. “We agree to your terms and thank you for your help in our extraction.”
“Then welcome to my home!” She clapped. “Anika will show you to your quarters because I have other plans. As much as I love being painted in my enemy’s blood…”
Not finishing, she left us with knowing where she planned to go.
Anika waved us to follow her out a different door than Kit went, but my eyes kept tracking her until we were out of the room.
So much had happened today but finding her alive sent a surge of joy right through me.
Of course, it was dampened the moment I realized she could never be mine again.
Our walk down the corridor remained long and silent besides the electricity humming in the ceiling.
I made my way to saddle up to Anika. She became Kit’s friend our senior year of high school, so we knew her by association.
Built like a tank, she was a woman not many men wanted to go up against. “How have you been?”
“Kayos,” she greeted me, remembering us as well. “We’ve been fine, and if you think you can ask me things about her, you’re mistaken.”
Stopping in front of a double door, she waved her hand for Ryatt to enter first. He did while I was being salty.
We followed, but she waited by the door as we took in the suites.
It was a mini apartment with three rooms off to one side and a living space with a small kitchen in the main area.
A bathroom was attached as well, and we’d all be using that to shower after what we just endured.
“All streaming services can be found on the television. The kitchen is stocked with snacks, homemade freezer dinners and drinks. If you run low or want something else, find me. You’ll discover a group bed in the sleeping chamber, but there are a few spare beds in the other rooms if someone wants their space.
Just remember to not wander too much from your scent.
We have a filtration system in each suite to help minimize you smelling someone else. Enjoy.”
She closed the door, for us to settle in.
