Kashmir volunteered to go with the groups that were gathering in a lockdown zone, but we all came with him to check things out.
Apparently, it wasn’t just us who were concerned about our pack because we found all the other leaders in here with the Betas they were sending.
Leisurely, I took in all the Alphas who stood among us because I still couldn’t believe they were alive.
It baffled me even more to know that Kit took part in their rescue.
Kashmir was suiting up, heading straight for the gun table that had been laid out for those equipped to handle them.
Raphael manned that station, but I could see Kit whispering something to him when Kashmir headed their way.
It didn’t take rocket science to know she told Raphael he was a sharpshooter, and Raphael handed him one of the rifles immediately because of it.
Our Beta took it and toyed around with it to get a good feel for the newer style, but I lost interest in what he was doing when I noticed Kit garbed in all black.
She wore a fitted vest that allowed weapons to sit on it, and she traded her high heels for a pair of combat boots.
With her hair braided back, I knew she planned to go with the Betas today.
That bothered me more than I could speak because she was an Omega.
Even though we stood in the empire of her Alpha, I couldn’t help but think he was stupid.
His Omega should be protected and kept under watch to make sure she’d always be okay.
The jealousy of it also ripped through me because it angered me to see her gearing to fight.
“I was hoping she’d been kidding when she said she’d be leading a task force.” Turner wasn’t amused by it either. We knew better than to voice against it after what happened to Reginald’s pack.
“Looks like she wasn’t,” I nearly growled.
“It isn’t our place,” Ryatt reminded me. He hadn’t been the same since a few days ago, and it made me wonder what happened. “She isn’t ours to lay claim over to enforce her to stay back.”
“I think it’s endearing,” Jericho tossed out of nowhere. Ever since our arrival and Kashmir dropping the bombshell of Kit being in our past, his trust in us dwindled, fueling her pedestal to raise. “She had to show the world what she could become. I admire her for what she did.”
We couldn’t respond, sharing a look he didn’t notice. Kit never should’ve been in that situation, and we were to blame. Silence ended the conversation.
A few vans were gearing up to go because of a cleanup mission, but the other forces were taking unrecognizable cars.
We didn’t want to look like we were suspicious in a big van.
Thanks to so many movies, people feared when a technician vehicle pulled up.
The cars in this bay were a few years old to not look too flashy, and they were generic models to blend in.
On the farthest wall, I could see some motorcycles that made my hand itch to ride.
There’s just something about the speed and being in the open air as the wind hit against me that made me feel alive.
That was exactly what I needed these days because of everything going on here. And lack of things going on.
“Ryatt, if I can talk her into it, are you okay if I go on one of these missions?” I asked my brother. Even though we were both Alphas, it was him we looked to for final rulings. I made plenty of a calls for our group, but this one seemed like it needed to be put to a vote between us.
“Try getting with Kashmir because I’m worried about him,” he ordered with agreement.
Pulling Jericho into me, I gave his temple a kiss before sniffing his scent to carry with me.
He always stifled a laugh when I dragged my nose along the sensitive part of his neck, and it always gave me a hard on.
Smiling to myself, I was glad I could give him a moment of happiness before leaving.
He even reached up to give me a kiss on my lips, knowing I was about to go somewhere that he wouldn’t be with me.
I always wondered what it would be like if our city hadn’t been so dangerous.
If we moved somewhere else where he could walk the streets in the pure bliss he always carried in our home, but we weren’t in one of those places.
Knotty City, our home, was where our power ruled.
We couldn’t abandon it and our control so easily because it went against our nature.
That very nature inside me didn’t like sitting back while all these others went out.
A few more teams were driving off in the cars with someone from Raphael’s ranks, but I knew the dangerous mission hadn’t left yet.
Kit would use Kashmir for more than just following someone with his apt abilities to handle a gun.
Moving their way, I saw Kit tucking smaller knives into her vest like she had done this more than once.
It was like she purposefully created a permanent wedge under my skin by watching her not be protected or protecting herself.
“Kit,” I greeted her and called her attention my way.
Before I could say anything else, she took in my apparel that matched the rest of the crews here.
“I planned ahead to make sure to be ready, but I had to kill one of the Betas I had in my plans.” Ah, Reginald’s pack she slaughtered.
She didn’t let me say anything else before tossing me a handgun.
“Lucky for you, I need another tail with our group now. Can you still ride?”
Her head nodded toward the motorcycles behind us, setting a fire ablaze below my skin in excitement. “Can I still ride?” I scoffed, prepping for when we were leaving.
“You’ll be the left-wing,” she commanded. “I prefer the right.”
Before I could ask her more about it, she began walking toward a Ducati. It was then I comprehended that she’d be the other wing to the vehicle with me. My nostrils flared in panic because I knew I’d be worried over her beside me rather than seeing her as a partner to fight beside me.
Grabbing a few necessities from the selection of weapons, I went to the bike beside hers as she already straddled the one she wanted.
It was odd being with her like this again because I taught her to ride in the first place.
I remembered how excited and exhilarated it made her right before I fucked her somewhere random after a speedy ride that got our hearts racing.
Kashmir and two others got into a tan sedan, and I saw it was Raphael who would be driving. Glancing toward the door of the compound, I deducted Anika would be staying behind. Things ran differently here, but at least her Alpha was sending one of their Betas with us.
“And don’t even think that I need your protection,” Kit hissed. “If I needed it, I would’ve been dead seven years ago.”
With that, she took off on her bike after slamming her helmet down on her head.
Getting going, I hastily pulled out because I was already behind after she put me in that stupor.
The bikes were zigzagging in a familiar pattern behind the sedan.
We kept a decent distance to make it look like we were riding together as a couple to separate us from the car to the average eye.
Instead of going into the city, I noticed we were taking a different route to go on the other side of the river.
On a dirt path, we followed the untaken road and made our way into the depths of the forest. Raphael seemed to know where to go, and I had no doubt he studied and planned exactly how this needed to go.
From what I had seen from the Beta, he was a talented tracker.
My eyes couldn’t help but linger over to my right, studying how well Kit still knew how to ride.
She must’ve been practicing often for her skills to be what they were now, and it harbored ill feelings within me because she didn’t ride right next to me anymore.
Being so close to her drove me insane, and I knew I wasn’t the only pack member suffering.
Once we got to the house, it was a small cabin in the woods with two cars parked outside of it.
We kept our vehicles back, but my Alpha eyesight could see what we needed to hide from.
Everyone shut down their cars and readied for what was to come as Raphael took the lead.
“The man we’ve been following is in this place, so our objective is interrogation.
From what we have noticed in their patterns here, there should be six other people inside with him. ”
Pulling a paper out of his pocket, he showed us a picture of the man they had been following the last few days.
Other groups were stopping at some of his establishments to see what reasoning he would have for being there, but Kit was able to get this address from Castiel.
Ryatt told me how chummy they were. I studied the photo of the face to know which mark couldn’t be killed, and Kashmir did the same.
We nodded to each other after taking in the culprit.
He was involved in the burning of my family home, so a lot of rage sat within in me for it.
“Do not kill this man, but everyone else is fair game. Are you guys okay with this?” Raphael let his eyes gaze meet every single person in our group as we nodded our heads. That’s when I noticed Kit was already up ahead, using binoculars to scope out the area.
Taking a single drag from her cigarette, she let it roll through her like it calmed her nerves. Instead of using the rest, she spat on the tip and crushed the wetness into the roll to take out any embers before sticking it back into her pocket.
“Did you just put a used cigarette in your pocket?” Kashmir made a face.
“I’m not going to put it out on the ground! It could create a forest fire.” Kit acted like he was the one not thinking clearly.
I rolled my eyes and laughed. “Says the girl who executed an entire pack for calling her weak without even blinking.”
