40 Kit

Damien attempted to get me out and away from the chaos.

I knew this was part of his plan, and I could see that him sending word to Castiel had worked.

All my men were here, but they were fighting a battle we were running from.

We had gone down one flight of stairs before I made him stop.

He worried I might be too fatigued or too drugged to make it, so I shook my head.

“We can’t leave them. We need to go back and help him fight.” I wasn’t blind to the ambush that had started in there when Damien rushed in with his father’s men.

“My orders are to get you out of there,” he told me, brushing some loose hair behind my ear. I hadn’t been properly cleaned the whole time I’d been here, so I couldn’t imagine what I looked like right now.

“Your orders can be whatever you want them to be,” I reminded him that he didn’t belong to any of the packs in there. He might have been Saul’s son and marked by his father, but he was his own Alpha.

Damien had to take a minute to process what I said, and I could see the apprehension in his stare.

Never a man who easily won against his father, but he was a man who wanted to do the right thing.

Instead of being the boy I once knew who doctored me, I found a man more equipped to handle the battles his father brought down.

Pulling a key from his back pocket, he placed it in the shackles to let my wrists be free.

The first time they had found freedom since I arrived, and it felt like a thousand pounds had been removed from them.

Rolling my shoulders, they were completely stiff from how long my arms had been above my head.

I still couldn’t let that faze me now because I had to go back and fight.

“I’m the leader of my people, and my Beta is in that room.” After I said it to him, he took my hand and promised to stand by my side. Damien always stirred mixed emotions for me because he had been the angel in my purgatory, but I also related him to the experience I suffered with his father.

We dashed back in to see the madness taking place.

My eyes found Anika first as she kicked the asses of the men who surrounded her.

I forgot what a fighter she became, moving with grace while striking them with the force of a gorilla.

Her strength had been everything that made us survive, and I wouldn’t lose her right now.

I held a knife I found on the floor in my tingling fingers that weren’t used to being below my head.

Saul had been freeing me from the ceiling restraints to escape with me until Castiel and Ryatt burst into the room.

So I still tried to gain feeling back after they strung me up for too long.

My steps were a little wonky because I didn’t have my balance quite yet, fighting the drugs offsetting my mind.

Drugs provided one thing; I could fight without the sensitivity along my nerves.

Everything else blurred around the room as I charged forward and began stabbing those who weren’t part of my team.

I came face to face with more than one of the men that had taken me while here, and I howled with screams each time I killed one of them.

It turned into a way for my soul to grieve what they had put me through, so I let myself mourn as I battled.

Tears were running down my cheeks as my cry for vengeance took place.

I kept charging forward and pushing through the crowd, stabbing men in the back that were battling those who were on my side.

Unable to stop myself, I felt a different type of pulse speeding through my body.

It took me a minute to understand the pain exuding through my core until I turned around and saw Saul getting punched by Castiel.

They had been sword fighting, but the sword that sat in Castiel’s grasp was now tossed across the room of madness.

He tried to defend himself against Saul without having a weapon.

I ran toward his sword on the ground, and I didn’t let anything else stop me.

My true purpose in all of this came to light.

Everything else felt like white noise as the combat continued.

Damien had joined in, surprising a lot of men that stood on his father’s side.

I kept getting hit by others from the force of their own fights, knocking me left and right as I tried to stumble across the room.

I fell on my hands and knees over the blade, lifting it as I used the wall to support myself and caught my breath. It was hard being in a battle like this and having to blink through the folly for clear thoughts.

Castiel wasn’t winning his fight against Saul, so I knew it fell on my shoulders to help.

With one look to my Beta, I could see the hurt in her eyes because she couldn’t make it to him either.

She’d gotten completely surrounded by men because they saw the threat her in fight.

When she saw me, her eyes softened because she knew I planned to save Castiel.

I couldn’t save Ryan, but I would save Castiel.

This time, I didn’t stumble on my path to get to him.

I ran out full force with my vengeful cry leaving my lips.

My arms moved at my sides as my right hand carried the weapon.

My grip struggled with the weight, but I fought my body to keep hold of it.

Right as I got to them, Saul geared up to plunge the sword through Castiel’s middle.

My hand fisted into his hair from behind, feeling the rush of power as I dominated over him without warning.

Castiel’s went eyes went wide from below because he hadn’t expected me to come in and save him.

The sword positioned at Saul’s throat, and he knew better than to do anything with his weapon, dropping it to the ground. I let my lips fall next to his ear, chuckling that I had him in this situation. Once he scented it was me, he growled. “You can’t kill your own Alpha, and you know it.”

“I just had to make you think I’d kill you,” I told him in return right before Castiel picked up the blade and shoved it through his chest. Together, we defeated the one villain who had haunted my nightmares for years.

The second the sword plunged into his chest, a phantom pain shattered within mine.

I dropped to the floor in immense pain because my Alpha had fallen, and it felt like my soul ripped from me.

I felt no love for the psychopath, but I was forced to feel as though I had loved him for a lifetime from the bond.

Unable to prevent the grieving that started, Damien crawled to pick me up.

He studied how his father had fallen with his own sword through his chest, but it was only for a second to give me his focus.

Tears fell from his eyes as he fought to breathe, losing the Alpha of our pack with me.

Wrapping me up in his arms, he cradled me to his chest as I wailed like the women of the river.

None of us expected for this to happen the way it did, but I knew I wouldn’t change it.

Even with this hollow feeling inside of me, gutting me to the core, it had been worth having Saul finally gone.

Everything became distant after that, but I noticed the fight slowly ebbing into nothing.

Convulsing, my body began to seize as though it knew we had lost our Alpha.

Saul had played dirty when he did this to me, but I couldn’t undo what had been done.

I could only allow my body the time to grieve the connection lost even though I hated the man I it connected to.

Sometimes, people still hurt after knowing it was for the better.

Whether it they left a toxic relationship or killed their Alpha, there was still something to be mourned.

The time spent in their care, even if it became detrimental to our health.

That shadowing of existence used to darken our days would no longer be.

For me, I’d only feel happier knowing he was gone, but he ruined me with that bite.

He ruined my peace on purpose because he knew I’d suffer like this if he died.

Everything began to blur away as my cradled body crumpled against someone else. The spicy scent of the guys lingered after having Damien’s. Both smells I considered home, but I knew they’d never merge into one.

Anika was right by my side when I finally squinted my eyes open to take notice of her and the guys. Relief flooded me when I saw they were okay because they were my people. She had been my home the last seven years, protecting me from everything that wanted to lay harm.

I tossed my head to the side to be away from the chest it had been nestled against because I felt the wrenching sensation of bile coming up my throat.

It hit without warning, and I puked all over the floor.

I wanted to say it was the drugs, but I knew it came from the withering agony.

Everything inside of me felt gutted, and now I knew the truth of how living in forever pain would be.

After I purged everything within me, I felt too tired to go on.

My body acted as though we needed to follow our Alpha into the afterlife, but I also knew I couldn’t.

I was the Alpha in our home, and my people needed me.

Still, the thought of sleeping it off sounded better than any reality I had ever been in.
