Chapter 7

Being new gave me an easy excuse for when I was late to class. I never get lost, but the teacher would believe it since it was only my first day.

The truth is I was late because I overheard some guys talking crudely about my mate in the hallway.

One of them mentioned her hotness being wasted on a weirdo. I confronted them because I didn't want any males admiring what's mine or insulting my mate. She didn't deserve to get talked about that way.

At first, I tried to be civilized and told them they shouldn't say things like that, but when they laughed at me and asked why I care about that "freak" I couldn't control my anger with them.

The fight didn't last long and the guys went home to fix up their injuries. Luckily, the halls had been emptied so no one reported me to the principal's office.

I found another stroke of luck when I walked into class and there was an empty seat right next to my gorgeous mate.

Unfortunately, she didn't really feel like talking to me. Earning her trust might be a more difficult task than I thought.

But I did find out that she's a pretty good artist.

I didn't get to see much of her artwork, but the drawing she had was way better than anything I could ever draw.

When it was to for lunch, I headed towards the cafeteria.

One of the football players invited me to sit with him and some of his teammates. I declined because I would rather sit with my mate.

Even so, I didn't want to spend any time with the people that bully Carly. The only reason I was invited to sit them was because I was an alpha's son.

Once in the lunchroom, I searched for my mate. I was hoping she'd be there and allow me to sit with her.

I couldn't find her anywhere. I couldn't even pick out her scent from the crowds of people.

Having a feeling that she wasn't in here, I found another guy who might be able to tell me where she is.

"Oh, um Carly Johnson. Why do you wanna know where she is? I don't have anything against her but it seems like everyone else does. It might not be such a good idea to be seen around with her. People around here might peg you with a bad reputation." He told me.

"I don't care what those morons think about me. Just tell me where she is." I said losing my patience.

"Ok. She's probably somewhere alone in the library. She prefers to spend her lunch hour in there." He said.

"Thanks."

I made my way out of the cafeteria and began looking for the library.

It wasn't that close to the cafeteria so it took a while before I could reach it.

As soon as I stepped inside, I could smell Carly's scent telling me that she was in here.

I followed her scent all the way to one of the corners of the room. She was sitting at a table with her feet propped up on another chair.

She had a sucker in her mouth while she read a book. The book must've been really interesting because she had the cutest look of concentration on her face and she didn't even realize when I sat down.

"Hey." I said.

She jumped and looked up at me with wide eyes.

"What do you want?" She asked.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." I apologized.

"Whatever." She said and went back to reading and ignoring me.

"What book are you reading?" I asked.

"Can you not read? It says it on the cover right in front of your face." She snarled at me.

"Hush Hush." I said.

"Which is exactly what I want you to do. Seriously, hush hush and go away." She said irritated.

I don't know why she hates me so much. So far, I've done nothing but be kind to her, which is more than anyone else has done for her.

"I'm sorry. I just thought maybe you'd like to have someone to talk to." I said.

"Well you thought wrong." She got up and started walking away.

I quickly grabbed her arm before she could leave. She winced slightly before pulling her arm out of my hold. I wonder why she would react like that, but now wasn't the time to ask.

"Did you eat anything for lunch besides that sucker in your mouth?" I asked her.

I didn't think she would appreciate me asking that, but I had to know. It was important to me that she was eating.

"It's none of your business. Just leave me alone." She said scowling at me.

And this time, I let her walk away.
