Chapter 13

"Baby, you need to keep your eyes open." I whispered to Carly.

"It hurts." She cried out.

"I know it does, baby. You're going to be alright because I'm about to take you to the hospital so they can fix you up there." I told her softly.

"Ok."

I picked her up as gently as possible. She let out a quiet groan and I winced. I didn't want her to be in anymore pain but the only way I could help her was by moving her.

I carried her outside and carefully placed her in the passenger seat of my car.

The drive to the hospital was only about five minutes but it ended up feeling like an eternity.

She was in my arms again as I rushed her into the hospital as fast as I could without causing her too much pain.

Once we were in the lobby, I told the lady at the desk that my girlfriend was shot and needed immediate medical attention. Soon enough, a bunch of doctors and nurses came over to place Carly on a gurney.

I tried to follow them wherever they were taking her but someone held me back.

I tried to fight him but then more guards came to keep me away from my injured mate. They didn't realize how much she needed me. How much I needed her.

"Sir, she needs to go to surgery and you can't be there. You'll have to wait until they're finished. If you do not cooperate with us then we will have no choice but to sedate you." One of the guys informed me.

"Fine." I said. I couldn't be there for my mate if I wasn't even conscious.

I took a seat in the waiting room and took out my phone to call Alpha Derek. He needed to know what happened tonight.

He picked up right away.

"Hey, Sean. How'd the date go?" He asked.

"Not good." I told him.

"Oh no. What happened?"

"Well, the actual date went well but everything went wrong afterward." I explained.

"Ok. So then, what happened after the date?" He asked again.

"Let's just say that her brother is dead now and I'm at the hospital right now waiting until her surgery is done." I said.

"Do you want to meet up? This may be something we need to discuss in person."

"Yeah. I think we should meet up at her house where everything happened. You have pack members who are cops, right?" I asked him.

"Yeah. Why?"

"You should bring them. I think I'mgoing to need them." I said.

"You killed her brother, didn't you?" He asked.

"He didn't leave me any choice. Just bring the cops so we can clean up this mess. I don't want to have to serve any jail time." I told him.

"Ok."

Then he hung up.

I was nervous about leaving Carly here all alone but there was nothing I could do for her while she was in surgery anyway. Surgery would take a long time and I wouldn't be gone for long. I promised myself that I would be back by the time she wakes up.

So I went to my car and drove back to her house.

Derek's BMW and a cop car were parked in front of Carly's house. I went in to find Derek and two men in uniforms.

"Sean, this is Detective James Radley and Detective Brian Hansen. I brought them like you asked me to. Now you need to tell us everything that happened." Derek said.

"Ok. Carly's brother, Brandon, has been abusing Carly for years.

I found out tonight during our date and I came here to hear him admit it and tell him that I wouldn't allow him to get away with it anymore.

We got in a fight. Carly came in begging me not to kill him, so I wasn't going to for her sake.

But then, he shot Carly so I snapped his neck. " I explained.

"So you were just trying to protect your mate?" Detective Hansen asked.

"Exactly." I answered.

"I think we can make a report explaining that it was out of self defense and then you're all clear." Detective Radley said.

"Thank you."

With that issue out of the way, I could head back to hospital to wait for my mate to get out of surgery. I was worried about the safety of my mate, but somehow, a part of me knew that she would be ok.
