Nine

~Zane's POV~

I sped back to the back city as quickly as possible.

I wanted her out of my head. I didn't want to think about Everetts hands all over her.

Touching her like I should be touching her.

Kissing her like I should be kissing her.

Once I got to the pack city, I just went home.

I slowly walked inside and up to her room.

Now I was really screwed. As I opened the door, I caught myself from gasping.

She was sleeping in her bed. No Everett.

I don't even smell him. I smiled and forgot about everything that happened these past few hours.

Traveling further into her room I slowly crept to her bed and pushed a few strands of hair out of her peaceful sleeping face.

"Zane?" She groggily asked and I softly laughed.

"Yeah. It's me." She quickly sat up and jumped into my arms.

"I missed you so much." She mumbled and pressed her head further into my chest. I almost groaned but stopped myself. This felt so right. "I'm sorry Zane." Her voice held so much emotion, I pulled her away from me a little to look at her tear streaked face.

"Were you crying?" I asked and leveled our eyes. She tried to pull her face away but I held it with my hands. "Baby," I pulled her back into my chest and stroked her soft hair.

"No, you're right. I'm a jerk." She pulled away from me and scooted back on the bed. Away from me. "I'm-I'm giving you whiplash." I tried to hold her hand and comfort her but she pulled away again, making me angry.

"No just stop pushing me away Devina." She slowly looked up and met my gaze. Her blue eyes held so much hurt and pain as they filled with tears.

"I can't." She whispered. "I can't get hurt. Not again." Another stray tear fell and I crawled over to her and wiped it away with my thumb. Again? I cringed at the thought of her being with other guys like this. Or like anything.

"If you just let me in I promise I won't hurt you.

" She looked away again which killed me inside.

"I was going to kiss you earlier today. When I had just won the race?

" She snapped her eyes back to mine and I smiled.

"I wanted to so badly." I still wasn't sure how she felt about that, but the fact that when I said wanted she frowned made me a little more confident.

"But you didn't." She pointed out and I caressed her cheek.

"Have you ever been kissed before?" I asked and I could barely see her cheeks flush.

She shook her head and I grinned. "Then I want to make it special for you.

It's your first time. I didn't just want it to happen because we got caught up in the moment.

I want you to remember it forever, no matter what happens.

" She softly smiled. "I want to do it the normal way, take you out to dinner, talk to you about stupid things like what your favorite class is or what your favorite food is, then drive you back home and kiss you on the front porch.

Or plan something big and wait for the perfect moment.

" I smiled too when I thought about her lips on mine.

"Zane nothing about us is normal. You're an extremely rich werewolf." She laughed and I did the same. She was right. "I don't care about any of that." She said and my eyes widened as she leaned in.

"Are you sure? I can wait for you, Devina." I assured her but she just shook her head.

"I want you to kiss me, Zane." I slowly nodded and held the side of her face with my hand. I inched forward, giving her time to stop me and when she didn't, I leaned in even closer, our noses were touching.

"Alpha!" I heard someone scream and groaned.

"I'm sorry." I kissed her forehead and ran downstairs to find Danny, my best soldier covered in blood. "What happened?" I frantically asked and he shook his head.

"We were ambushed up by the north border." I cursed under my breath and ran my fingers through my hair. I wanted more details of our assassins but finding out how hurt we were, was more important.

"How many were lost?" I hesitantly asked. We have a big enough army to lose a few soldiers but those soldiers still have family and children.

"Over twenty. We were caught off guard Alpha. We couldn't do anything." I nodded, I understood.

"Zane, what happened?" I heard a soft voice ask and I immediately turned around, smiling.

"Nothing Sunshine go back to bed." She shook her head and looked over at Danny who had a questioning expression on his face. She shyly buried her head in my chest and I chuckled. God, she's so cute.

"I'm Danny." He spoke and she pulled away from me a little.

"I'm Devina." She softly smiled. "Zane's mate." I pulled her into my chest again and stroked her blonde hair.

"Congratulations you too." Danny nodded and I smiled. "You got lucky Alpha."

"I know," I spoke as I looked down at my mate.

My beautiful mate. "I really did." Devina wrapped her arms around my waist and squeezed.

"Sunshine I have to go take care of a few things.

It's still early in the morning, you should go back to bed.

" She pulled her head off of my chest and frowned.

If she asks anything with this face, I'd comply.

"I don't want you to leave me." I kissed her forehead and tucked her hair behind her ears.

"I'll be back soon. I promise." She pouted again and looked up at me with innocent eyes.

"Can I come with you?" She knew the effect she had on me. "Please Zane?" I finally caved in and gently grabbed her hand.

"It was nice meeting you Luna." Danny bowed and Devina furrowed her brows. We haven't talked about this yet.

"Luna?" She asked "My name's..." she trailed off and I just shook my head.

"I'll explain later."

"Alpha we need you in the packhouse. We're having a meeting." April, my secretary mind linked me and I told her I was on my way.

"Come on we have to go. Thanks, Danny." I waved and lead Devina to the pack house, which was in walking distance.

"What did he mean by Luna, Zane?" She asked as we walked towards the house.

"I'm the Alpha, so you would be the Luna if we decide to become mates." I could almost smell her confusion.

"We aren't mates now?" She asked and I shrugged.

"We are, but we haven't mated." My face heated up and so did hers. She mumbled an "oh". "We don't have to do that though. Not now." I quickly added and she nodded.

"When do we have to?" She asked and I looked away from her. This was awkward.

"Whenever you're ready." I softly spoke and she stopped walking. Which isn't entirely a lie.

"So you're ready?" She interrogated and I just shrugged again.

"That doesn't matter. It matters if you're ready."

"But you are. Aren't you?" I tilted my head back and closed my eyes.

"I was ready when if first laid eyes on you." I felt her eyes lift off of me and land somewhere else.

"I'm a virgin, Zane." She quickly said and blushed. I snapped my head towards her direction and smiled.

"You are?" She nodded and I stepped closer. "I'm not going to pressure you into doing anything you don't want to Sunshine." She shook her head and stepped away, making me growl. I hate when she does that.

"But you're ready. I don't know when I'll be ready. I can't ask you to wait like that." I pulled her closer and held her hands.

"You aren't asking. I'm just doing." I assured her. "And besides we only have forever." She furrowed her eyebrows and looked up at my face.

"How old are you Zane?" She asked and I narrowed my eyes, trying to understand what she was doing.

"I told you," I replied and she shook her head.

"I know that's not true. How old are you?" I looked away and played with my fingers.

"237," I answered truthfully and she gasped.

"I'm only..." I grabbed her hand again and made her look me in the eyes.

"That doesn't matter." She was young, but so was my body. Sort of.

"Can you even die?" I took in a sharp breath and chuckled.

"Why...are you planning to murder me Sunshine?" She rolled her eyes and smiled. "Only I know the answer to your question," I answered.

"Why? How don't the other werewolves know about it?" I laughed and squeezed her hand.

"I'm not like any other werewolf. I'm special."

"What do you mean?"

"I'm an Alpha. The first Alpha." She tried to take a step back but I didn't let her. "It doesn't change anything Devina. I'm still me." She nodded and looked away, I could tell something was bothering her.

"Alpha are you almost here?"

"Don't rush me April." I calmly linked back and didn't get a response.

"Come on we have to get going." She nodded and followed closely behind me.
