~Devina's POV~

Zane pulled up next to Everett and revved his engine. Everett did the same and winked at me.

"I swear to god Zane if you don't win this I will never talk to you again." Zane snapped his head towards me and flinched back.

"You're joking, right?" I narrowed my eyes and he took a deep breath. "I'm going to win Sunshine. I promise." I shook my head and looked at the start line. I didn't know where the end was and that made me a little nervous.

"Don't make promises you can't keep," I whispered but with werewolf hearing, he obviously heard it. With a fire of a pistol, the race was on. Zane sped off and Everett did the same.

"Shit," Zane mumbled as soon as Everett pulled out in front of him.

"Sunshine there's a helmet somewhere towards the back, can you put it on?

" I wiped the sweat from my palms and looked around for the helmet.

Once I found it, I put it on and looked over at Zane. "Cute." He smiled as he saw the helmet.

"What's going on Zane?" I asked when I noticed how tense he was.

"He upgraded his engine." I took a deep breath, not entirely sure what that meant, but I did know that it wasn't a good thing.

"And he never plays nicely. So hold on tight Sunshine.

" Zane jerked to the left and bypassed Everett, now in the lead I watched the speedometer quickly rise from one hundred to one hundred and fifty to two hundred.

It was getting harder for me to stay calm when I felt something bump the car, making it slide to the right a little.

"Shit." I snapped my head over to the side and saw Everett trying to drive us off the deserted road.

Zane sped up a little but so did Everett.

I glanced over and Everett blew me another kiss.

I wish I could yank it out of the air and throw it in the trash.

"Distract me so I don't stop this car and kill him. " Zane gritted out and I laughed.

"Don't kill me." He relaxed a little and grinned.

"I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I did Sunshine." He explored my face with his eyes and I smirked.

"What do you get if you win this race?" I asked and he shrugged.

"You." I laughed and shook my head. Everett was right next to us while we buzzed down the dirt road.

"Wait, If I win then you have to go on a date with me.

" My eyes widened and my heart started to beat faster.

"I can hear your heart beating faster, do I make you nervous?

" He asked and I shook my head. "Do you want to go on a date with me? " He asked again and I looked away.

"If Everett wins, I'll have to go on a date with him." I brought him back to the race and he sped up a little.

"I don't think I'm going to win Sunshine. His car is way better than mine." He tried to pass Everett but he sped up and pulled in front of us.

"If you don't win, he and I will have to go on a date," I repeated and he scoffed.

"I know that." He gritted out but I wasn't finished.

"And," I continued. "You and I both know he'll try something.

He'll hold my hand and compliment my outfit.

He'll lean in to kiss me and-" Zane gripped the steering wheel harder and slammed down on the accelerator, quickly turning to the left so that we were side by side with Everett.

Zane sharply turned the wheel to the left and the car jerked over in Everett's lane, pushing him off the road and just in time to hit a tree.

We continued buzzing down the road and made it to the finish line.

"Yes!" I yelled as soon as we pulled up to the finish line.

Zane quickly got out of the car and so did I, running over to him.

He had the biggest smile on his face as I ran into his arms. He hoisted me up and turned around in circles.

"You won!" I laughed and he did the same.

I pulled away a little and looked him in the eyes.

"I wasn't about to let him take what's mine.

" He said seriously and leaned in closer to me.

My heart was racing, maybe it was because of all the adrenaline pumping through my veins, but I'm pretty sure it was because of the small space between our lips.

I was anxious for him to close the space between us but just as he started leaning in further, he changed his mind.

I could see it in those beautiful eyes of his.

He moved his lips up to my forehead and placed a light, feathery kiss.

The same question was repeating throughout my head.

Why did he change his mind? Why did he change his mind?

"Yo Zane!" I heard Levi yell

and I gazed up into Zane's eyes. He was trying to gauge my reaction so I put on a straight face, concealing all my emotions and I wiggled out of his grasp. "Mika said you ran Everett right off the road!" My ears perked up to the sound of Mika's name.

"Mika?" I questioned, and as if on cue he came waltzing up to us. I squealed and ran into his arms, just like I did with Zane a few moments ago. He caught me in his arms and laughed.

"Hey princess." He whispered in my ear and I laughed.

"You guys and your nicknames." I slapped his arm and he chuckled. I turned back around to see Zane sending Mika a death glare, if looks could kill, Mika would be burning up in the center of the Earth. Or maybe hell. Mika nodded at Zane in recognition and pulled me back into his chest.

"Sunshine we should probably get going," Zane said, not breaking eye contact with Mika. I shook my head and pouted.

"But I want to stay here." I protested and Zane scoffed.

"Yeah in his arms." My jaw dropped but before I could disagree, he stalked off leaving three very confused people.

"Man, you really changed him Dev." Levi laughed and I gently pulled away from Mika's arms.

"He's so possessive," Mika mumbled and I rolled my eyes.

"He's just-" I didn't even know what to say.

"I'm going to go look for him." I started to walk away from the boys but then turned around, before I could even ask, Levi pointed to a bar and said he'd be in there.

I thanked him and made my way into the bar.

Once I got up to the building, I pulled the metal door open and walked inside, scrunching my nose up when the strong smell of whiskey and vodka engulfed me.

I scanned the crowd for Zane and wish I hadn't.

Sitting on some gross, old couch was Zane.

With a girl sitting on his lap. Sucking his face off.

I immediately took a step back and almost as if he could sense me, Zane snapped his eyes over to me and pushed the girl off of his lap.

She pouted and tried to hold him back but he shrugged her hand off of her and jogged over to me.

I don't know why I didn't turn around and run far away, but I was frozen in place.

"Devina, I'm so sorry- I- she didn't mean anything to me I was just upset about Mika touching you like that and I-" I cut him off and scoffed.

"I didn't kiss him, Zane." I hissed and tried to walk away but he grabbed my arm.

"I know. I'm sorry." I pulled my arm back away from him.

"It's not like we're together." I pointed out and he frowned. "I can be with whoever I want." I pointed out and he growled. Like literally growled.

"No, you can't." I was bubbling over with rage.

"That's just what you were doing Zane!" I yelled and he pulled me outside. "Let go of me!" I yelled and he finally did once we were outside. "I'm going to go find Everett, to make sure he's okay." I narrowed my eyes and turned to walk away but Zane grabbed my wrist and pulled me back.

"No, you aren't." He growled out again and I smacked his hand away from me.

"Yes, I am. And don't touch me. I don't want to get an STD after she was all over you." He laughed. He laughed.

"Are you jealous?" He smirked and I did something I thought I'd never do twice. I smacked him. Again.

"Woah, is everything alright here?" Everett ran up to us and stepped in between me and Zane.

"Yeah. I was just looking for you actually." I pulled his arm so he'd turn around and he smirked. "Are you alright?"

"I am now." He stepped closer and I internally cringed.

"God Devina. Are you really trying to make me jealous?" Zane piped up and laughed. "Because it's not working." I stepped around Everett and glared at Zane.

"I'm just making sure he wasn't injured after you made him crash into a tree!" I dryly laughed and he shook his head.

"I thought you wanted me to win." I shrugged and his face turned red with anger and his eyes darkened. "I'm tired of your crap Devina. I'm staying at the pack house for awhile. Find your own damn ride home." Zane stomped away. Moments later, I heard his loud engine start and his tires skid away.

"Come here." Everett pulled me into his arms and unlike with Zane, everything felt so, so, so, wrong.
