Twelve

~Zane's POV~

Either she started to fade or I did, I'm not sure but before I knew it, she was gone.

"Devina!" I screamed. "No. Damnit!" I jolted awake and pushed back the witch who helped me.

"She's not in Olympia. She's with some guy named Ethan.

" I paced the room trying to think of something else, anything else that could help us find her.

"I smelled another wolf on her. Rouge. She's not likely in a city.

" I said, more to myself than anyone else.

"Can you do a locator spell?" I asked Jamie who nodded, her hair moving with the sudden movement.

I focused a little too much on how similar Jamie's blonde hair was to Devina's.

Although, Devina never liked trying to tame her hair.

She didn't want to put so much effort into something so temporary.

"I'll need a piece of hair and something that was very close to her. Something's she's touched." I rushed back to our house and into her room. In her bathroom, I grabbed her brush and started looking around her room for something that was close to her.

"Mr. Freddles," I said with a duh tone and ran to the backyard.

She refused to flush him down the toilet so I buried him near the fence.

I ran over to the spot and started digging.

Once I spotted the brown cardboard box, I scrunched up my nose and plucked him out of the ground.

I hurried back to the meeting room and handed Jamie both of the items.

"What's this?" She slowly asked as she turned over the dirty box.

"Her fish. She loved him a lot." She nodded and opened the box.

"I'll need a map of Washington." I nodded and grabbed one from my office, handing it to her.

Jamie took the map and spread it across the table, then she took a few strands of hair from the brush and laid Mr. Freddles over it.

Next, she unclasped a crystal necklace that was hanging from her neck and held it over the dead fish and strands of blonde hair.

She closed her eyes and the crystal started to sway.

"Inveniet eam." She repeated over and over again until the crystal started to move east. Finally, it landed somewhere on the map.

Jamie snapped her eyes open and smiled. "She's in Spokane.

Somewhere near the trees. Maybe in a forest?

" She shut her eyes again and breathed in deep.

"I smell wolf and trees." I smiled and thanked her, running out of the pack house.

Jumping into my car, I started it and sped off to Spokane.

"Devina, I'm bringing you home." I grinned.

~Devina's POV~

When Ethan finally returned it was early morning. I greeted him and handed him some soup I had made a few minutes ago.

"Couldn't sleep," I answered when he asked why I was awake so early.

"Then I guess we can get a head start on the hike." I nodded and once we both finished our soup, we headed out back into the woods. "Sorry I don't have a flashlight or anything. I have built in night vision." He chuckled and tapped next to his eyes.

"It's fine. Just lead the way." And he did.

For about an hour and a half, we walked through the woods and finally made it to a little cabin nestled quietly between a little creek and the thicker part of the woods.

It was now daytime, but it was starting to rain so the sky was dotted with black and gray clouds.

"This is it. Millie?" He called out as he knocked on the door. A beautiful woman opened the door, she was probably a little older than me.

"Hello." She smiled and opened the door further, ushering us in. "I'm Millie." She stuck her hand out for me to shake.

"Devina." She tilted her head and looked back at Ethan. I couldn't help feeling anxious, something was going to happen.

"You are correct, Ethan. You can just tell she's different.

" She glanced back at me and lead us into a small library.

I wanted to ask how they communicated but decided against it.

"Please, sit make yourselves at home." She smiled again and we sat down at a table.

"I'm not quite sure what I may do for you, but I'll do everything I can. "

"Thank you." She nodded and walked over to one of the shelves. Pulling out a big ancient looking book, she walked back to the table and opened it up, sending a cloud of dust into the air.

"Tell me what's been happening. What have you been feeling?"

"The day before my birthday, I just started feeling different. I didn't feel like myself anymore. I still don't really feel like myself." I answered truthfully and Millie quirked a brow.

"Your birthday? When was it?"

"The eighth." Her eyes widened. "What?"

"Eight is a very, special number. It's what some people call a physic number. For most people who are born on the eighth of the month or the eighth month of the year, they come into special powers on their eighteenth birthday. That would make sense." I shook my head and frowned.

"That was my seventeenth birthday, not my eighteenth." She looked back up at me with surprise and quickly went back to looking through the book.

"You had the dream didn't you?" She slowly looked up.

Somehow, I knew exactly what she was talking about.

I nodded and she smiled. "This gets us somewhere.

I can do a spell, it may tell us a little more.

" I eagerly nodded my head. "Okay, but we must do it quickly.

Someone's coming for you." I gulped and nodded.

Millie held out her hands over the table and I reached across and grabbed them.

She mumbled a few words in what I thought was Latin and I felt a sharp pain in my head.

"S-stop!" I screamed and tried to take my hands out of hers.

"I am so very sorry." I squeezed my eyes shut and let out another ear piercing scream. Where was Ethan?

"No!" I screamed again but the pain only got worse. I focused all my energy on imagining the pain subsiding and it did just that.

"What-?" Millie pulled her hands back and seemed to shrink.

"What are you doing?" She asked in disbelief and stood up from the chair.

She got smaller and it took me a few seconds to realize that I was the one getting farther away from her.

I glanced down and saw that my feet weren't touching the floor.

"Devina? Baby?" I heard a familiar voice call out and I suddenly felt calm and safe. "What did you do to her!?" He yelled and barreled towards Millie. Her bright green eyes widened and she held out a hand, a bubble of fire developing in it.

"Take another step and I'll kill your little mate." She warned Zane and glanced at me. Rage filled my whole body.

"You just threatened me," I stated and Millie rolled her eyes. "You. Just. Threatened. Me." I repeated and landed down on the floor.

"Devina," Zane carefully stepped forward.

"No!" I yelled and he went flying back, along with Millie.

Only he got back up and Millie didn't. I snapped out of whatever trance I was in and stepped back away from everyone.

"I-I'm sorry. I-oh my god is she dead?" Zane walked towards me but I stopped him.

"No! St-stay away! I don't want to hurt you.

" His bruised face softened and he shook his head.

"You won't. If you just let me touch you, you won't be hurting me anymore.

" He replied but my eyes were fixed on Millie's body.

"She's not dead. I can hear her heartbeat.

" He replied as we both walked closer to her.

She might not be dead now, but she was close.

I walked around to the other side of her body, so I wasn't too close to Zane and fell to my knees.

"She's going to die," I whispered. I could feel it. Zane took a deep breath and without hesitation, he plunged his hand into her chest. "Wha- Zane!" Red liquid oozed out as he pulled out his hand, along with Millie's heart.

"I killed her. It was me." He finally spoke and cleaned off his bloody hands. "Devina. Please come back to me." He spoke

"Just reject me, Zane. Get it over with." I sighed and closed my eyes. "Just do it!" I yelled when he didn't say anything, but when I opened my eyes he was right there in front of me.

"I, Zane Gunner," I closed my eyes and a tear fell.

"Look at me." He demanded and I did what he wanted.

"I, Zane Gunner accept you Devina Stavros as my mate.

" He held my head in his hands and slowly pulled me forward.

"Our first kiss was in our dreams." He laughed.

"Well, our first shared kiss." He added and I blushed.

"I've dreamt about this for awhile now." He looked down at my lips and pressed his against them.

I didn't respond, so Zane pulled away. "What do I have to do Devina?

Say sorry? Sorry for what?" He took a few steps back and looked up at the ceiling. "You aren't you anymore."

"You're right," I said before I could control myself.

"So just leave." I flung my arms up in the air and dropped them back at my sides.

"Just leave," I yelled making him flinch.

"You don't want me, Zane! Why would you want me!

? I'm weak!" My body yelled. This wasn't me.

I had no control over what I said or did.

"You just want the power don't you Zane?

" My body laughed, tilting its head back.

"That's right I know." Something isn't right.

Someone is inside of me, controlling me.

"When you mate with me, you get power. Or with anyone for that matter.

You just get more power if you mate with who you're meant to be mated with.

" It smiled and Zane just looked at us with wide eyes.

"Well guess what, I Devina Stavros re-" Zane lurched forward and pushed us to the ground.

"No. That's where you're wrong. I'll get more power when I mate with Devina.

Not you." I tried to smile but it felt like I was just sitting in the back of an empty movie theater, watching my life's movie play by.

"Devina baby, hold on. I'm sorry." I wanted to ask why, but before I knew it, Zane knocked me out cold.

~Zane's POV~

As soon as she started to reject me, I lurched forward. This isn't Devina. I can see it in her cold lifeless eyes. When I knocked her out and saw her eyes flutter close, I felt horrible. I dropped my head as I straddled her and got off of her body.

"I'm so sorry," I said again picking up her body and carrying her to the car. Once she was securely buckled into the back, I jumped into the driver's seat and called Sam.

"Alpha? Did you find her?" I thought about my answer, yes I found her, but not her.

"She's possessed." I sighed.

"Oh dear. Bring her back to the pack hospital and I'll bring in a hunter." I nodded and sped back to Olympia. "Where is she?" Sam asked as I pulled into the hospital.

"Back seat. I had to knock her out twice on the way." I whispered and Sam shot me an apologetic smile.

"You did the right thing."

"What about the hunter? They won't kill us?" Sam shook his head.

"They usually don't unless you've killed innocent people." I nodded and went to the back seat, where Devina sat upright with completely black eyes.

"I'm not letting you do anything." The thing spoke. "Devina's pretty comfy." She evilly grinned and unbuckled the seat belt. "Unlike the back of this car." She frowned and got out.

"Get out of her!" I yelled and yanked her out of the car.

"Ah ah ah. I wouldn't do that if I were you." She smirked and closed her eyes, sending a shake through Devina's perfect body. Then came the screaming. It was Devina.

"Stop!" I screamed but the demon just smirked as Devina screamed. "Fine! I won't do anything." Devinas eyes turned back to her normal shade of blue and she shook her head.

"No. No get it out of me Zane. Please, it hurts. It hurts so much. Just get it-" Then her eyes turned black again and she smirked.

"Who are you? What do you want?" I yelled but she just laughed.

"I'm Haliana. And I want her. She had lots of power.

" She looked down at her hands and smiled.

"Poor little thing. She thought she was special.

" She outed then a few seconds later, she shrugged and looked back at me.

"But, I wouldn't mind having you." She walked forward and I wished it was really Devina.

I took a deep breath and let her walk towards me.

"I'm sorry." I looked deep into Devinas eyes and knew she could see and hear me.

When Halina squinted her eyes, I brought my hand up to her face and she screamed out in pain.

Sam ran back outside with a hunter by his side and he hunter contained Halina.

He started chanting some Latin phrase and the demon squirmed, trying to get away.

"Hold her down!" The hunter yelled and I did just that. She screamed and screamed until everything stopped and black smoke flew out of her eyes, mouth, and ears. She took a deep breath and her eyes turned blue again.

"Sunshine?" I carefully pack asked and she nodded.

"Sorry." Was the last thing she said before her eyes shut again and her heart stopped.
