Thirteen

~Zane's POV~

As soon as the melody of her heart stopped, I pulled her up into my arms.

"Why isn't she breathing?" I asked anyone that was listening. "Why isn't her heart beating!?" I screamed, trying to shake her awake. "Help! Someone do something!" I yelled as tears started to fall down my cheeks. "Sam!" I sobbed.

"Alpha, she's gone." He patted my shoulder but I slapped him away.

"D-don't touch me!" I stood up with this small human being that I've grown to love.

Love. I love her. I looked down at her as my tears fell on her perfect face.

"No. Please come back." There's so much I never got to do with her, and just now discovering how much I really love her was too much to handle.

I never got to tell her that. I never got to-

"Stop crying. Your tears are falling on me." She croaked, making me fall to the floor, clutching her body.

"Oh god. W-what? You were dead." Her eyes were still closed but her heartbeat was getting stronger and stronger. "I thought you were dead," I repeated as she opened her bright blue eyes.

"Sorry." She croaked out again and tried to pull away.

"Nice try. I'm not ever letting you go again." She smiled at this and just lay her head on my chest.

"I l-" She tried to say something but ended up caught get up her lungs instead.

"I missed you so much." I breathed in her lavender scent and smiled.

"I know. I missed you too. I'm sorry. I really am Zane. I didn't mean anything I said. I-" I cut her off.

"No stop. I know. I know you wouldn't leave like that I know you-" Now it was her turn to cut me off.

"Zane," She started and looked down. "I chose to leave.

I chose to run away. That wasn't the-the whatever it was.

It was me." I flinched at her words. She wanted to leave me.

She chose to leave me. "I just needed to figure everything out and-and I don't know.

I just needed time." I nodded and loosened my grip on her.

"I'll give you time," I spoke and started to stand up but she stopped me, putting her hands on my chest.

"No. I don't want time. I-I know what I want." I nodded and gulped.

"What do you want?" I slowly asked, making her smile.

"You. I want you." I didn't even have to think, I yanked her body forward and crashed my lips onto hers.

I put one hand on the small of her back and the other on her cheek.

"I want you." She repeated making me feel hot.

I smiled against her lips and asked for entrance by bitting her bottom lip.

She moaned and pulled on my hair, immediately giving me what I wanted.

"Um," Someone cleared their throat and I snapped my head in his direction. The hunter-still not really sure what his name is-was looking at me and Devina sitting on the floor, I narrowed my eyes and growled.

"Go away." I lowly demanded. He was watching us.

"Get a room." I jumped up and lunged for him.

"I said leave," I growled again, making him just roll his eyes in response.

"I could kill you so easily right now." He sighed. I punched him in the face and heard his jaw crack.

"Zane?" I heard a small voice crack. I turned around and watched as she tried to get up, but ended up failing and falling back on her knees.

I rushed over to her and helped her stand.

"Don't do that," She frowned and picked up my hand, tracing the already healing cuts on my knuckles.

I studied her face and placed little kisses all the way from her forehead to the tip of her nose. She giggled making me smile again.

"I'm sorry Sunshine." She wrapped her arms around my waist and buried her head in my chest. "Can I take you home?

" She nodded and I walked her to the car, my arm around her shoulder making sure she doesn't fall.

"Let's go home." I smiled as we were both in the car driving back home.

I jumped out of the car and ran over to Devina's passenger side and opened the door once we pulled into the driveway.

"I'm fine Zane." She rolled her eyes but I continued carrying her inside.

"I know," I replied as she nestled her head in my chest. "But just a few minutes ago you were dead so," She chuckled and pulled her head away.

"I'm here now." She spoke and slowly leaned closer until our lips were moving together.

She moved her hands up and down my chest making my breathing get heavier.

She moved her warm hands under my shirt and felt my abs.

I tensed and so did she. "Sorry I-" I set her down on the ground and she looked down.

"Look at me," I demanded and she did just that. I closed the distance in between us by shoving her against a wall and smashed my lips back on hers. She gasped but responded quickly and eagerly. I leaned away, just admiring her beauty.

I kissed her again with some much passion and hunger, she moaned making me growl in pleasure.

I hoisted her up onto my hips and snaked my arms under her bottom.

She held onto my face with her hands and I slid my tongue into her mouth.

She unconsciously moved up and down grinding against me.

I growled again and brought her upstairs to my room.

I shut the door behind us with my foot and carefully lay her back down on the bed.

I stood over her, examining her beautiful body.

She sat up and crawled towards me, grabbing my face with her precious hands.

I leaned us both down on the bed so that I was on top of her, she gasped and quickly pulled back, crawling away from me to the headboard.

"I-I'm sorry." She whispered and looked away.

"We shouldn't-sorry." She briefly stood up and began walking past me.

"Baby what's wrong?" I carefully asked, taking her hand in mine.

"I-I'm only seventeen Zane. I don't think I'm ready...for that." She softly spoke.

"Then we won't do that," I assured her. "I'm not going to push you into doing anything you don't want to." She nodded and turned to walk back to her bedroom. "Wait, Devina. I just got you back, I don't want you to be away from me." She giggled and pecked my cheek.

"I'm just across the hall Zane." I shook my head and sighed.

"It's too far Sunshine." I pouted, rubbing circles on her hand. "Please stay with me?" I hopefully asked and she nodded.

"Okay." I smiled and lead her back to the bed, this time for a different reason. "Can I sleep in tomorrow?" She asked as she got under the covers. I chuckled and got in next to her, pulling her against my now bare chest.

"You can do whatever you want." I could tell she was grinning and when she rolled over, my thoughts were confirmed.

"Then I want to go to school." I tensed and shook my head.

"Except for that." She frowned, making my heart clench.

"Zane. Please? This is important to me." She shyly looked behind me, at the wall. "I want to go to college and be a doctor." I almost stopped breathing. Most Luna's don't go to college or have jobs. Maintaining the pack is their job.

"You know, being the Luna will be a real time-consuming job." I softly said and she looked at me.

"I can't go to college?" She slowly asked.

"No. You can, I'm just saying, you might not have time for both." She furrowed her eyebrows.

"I want to do what I love. I won't live forever." If this were anyone's life she'd be right.

"Well, that's not entirely true." She lifted her brows, urging me to continue. "When we-um mate, we'll both become stronger. I've lived for a long time, and so will you." She swallowed, trying to comprehend all this new information.

"I'm going to school. And I'm going to get my drivers license.

" She finally said. "And I'm getting a job.

" I tried to protest but she cut me off.

"Zane, this is my life. I don't want to look back on it and regret my decisions just because of my bo- mate telling me not to do something.

" I smirked as she stopped herself from saying boyfriend.

"What were you going to say? Bo...." Her face lit up.

"I was going to say a boy." She tried to cover up.

"No, you were going to say "my boyfriend"," I smirked.

"Yeah but that's not true." She just shrugged it off and tried to roll over but I stopped her.

"Devina will you be my girlfriend?" I smiled but soon stopped when she gave me that look.

"Zane, I- we haven't even been on a date. I still don't know much about any of this." My heart dropped as she rejected me. Rejected. "No. No, I don't reject you I just-I think we should take things slow. I don't want to jump into this. We have forever right?"

"You almost died today. No, you did die today. What if we don't have forever?" She smiled and pecked my lips.

"We have now, and that's all that matters." I smiled at this and nodded. She's right. Now is all that matters.
