Fourteen

~Devina's POV~

I woke up in the early afternoon. Smiling at the bright sun rays, I rolled over and let out a gasp. I forgot Zane was here. I finally looked around again and remembered that I was in his gray room, in his comfy bed. He shot his eyes open and scanned my face.

"What's wrong? Are you feeling okay? I can take you to the-" I giggled and pecked his nose.

"I'm f-" I stopped my sentence and smiled. "I'm good." He grinned at this and pulled me into his warm and inviting arms.

"Let's go make breakfast." I groaned, not feeling very up to the idea as he got up and walked around to the other side of the bed where I lay. "Come on." He tugged on the covers that were now over my head but I kept them there.

"It's cold!" I whined making him chuckled. I heard his footsteps retreating and frown. "Zane?" I called out and his head popped up in the doorframe.

"I turned the heat up a bit. It'll take a while though.

" He smirked and narrowed his eyes. "Now get up.

" He ran over to me and gathered my body, wrapped in the fluffy blanket and carried me downstairs.

"Pancakes?" Zane suggested and I grinned nodding my head.

I unwrapped myself from the covers and walked over to stand next to him.

He glanced down at my bare legs and I gasped.

"Why am I just wearing your shirt, Zane?" I narrowed my eyes and he blushed.

"I didn't look!" He defended holding his hands up in surrender. "I'm not a pervert." He scoffed and I rolled my eyes.

"You didn't look while undressing me?" He quickly shook his head.

"No! I didn't." I tried and pulled the shirt down again but it only went to my mid thighs.

"We both know you looked Zane!" My face reddened at the thought of him looking at my half-naked body.

"Okay, okay, I looked." The tips of his ears turned red in embarrassment. "It was hard not to." He defended himself again making my face heat up even more.

"You're a pervert!" He growled and locked eyes with me.

"I'm not a pervert. You're my mate, Devina." I looked down at my bare feet, now finding them externally interesting.

"Not your full mate," I added making him growl again. "You don't get to see me n-naked!" He frowned and sighed.

"Yes, I do." I shook my head in protest.

"Not if I don't want you to." His beautiful features softened ad he pulled my chin up making me look him in the eyes.

"You don't want me to?" He carefully asked and I shook my head.

"Why not?" I just shrugged. I've never been comfortable with my body, it's not perfect and I have scars that I don't want people to lay eyes on.

Some things are easier to just burry deep inside and cover up.

Living in my family, or what was left of it, wasn't entirely easy and I didn't know how to handle things well and healthily.

I slipped into depression and hurt myself.

I wasn't eating properly and I refused to change for a while.

I sill have a little bit of trouble with my diet and my thoughts

but I am better now.

Zane makes things better. "You're beautiful Devina with and without clothes. " He smirked and I slapped his arm.

"Good thing it was dark." I laughed and he frowned again.

"What do you mean?" He grabbed my arm preventing me from leaving.

"Nothing." He narrowed his eyes and gave me a death glare.

"What. Do. You. Mean?" He repeated, this time slower, trying to scare me.

"So you couldn't see much." My face reddened again but he wasn't buying it.

"What don't you want me to see?" I looked away and shook my head.

"Nothing. Just drop it, Zane. It's nothing." He let out another infamous growl and leveled his eyes with mine.

"I'll find out eventually you do know that right?" I nodded and looked away from his eyes again. "Did someone do something to you?" I immediately shook my head.

"No! No. It's nothing like that. It's not that big of a deal. Come on please I'm hungry!" He chuckled and nodded.

"Yeah. Okay, you turn the stove on. I'll start making the batter.

" I nodded and grabbed a pan out of a cupboard.

Lucky guess. I put it on the stove top and sliced a piece of butter into it.

"Here." I turned around only to be blinded by something white.

"Oh shit, I didn't mean to get it in your eyes.

" He hurried over to me and I whimpered.

"Devina? Devina, I'm so sorry I thought it would be funny!

Are you okay?" I sniffled a little and chucked an egg at him.

Good thing he put them on the counter behind me.

I snickered and wiped the flour from my eyes.

I bent over, bubbling with laughter as I saw where the egg had landed.

Right on his forehead, a little for in his brown hair too.

"You did not just to that." He narrowed his eyes making me freeze.

"Have I told you how good you look today?

" I tried cracking a smile too, but my pathetic attempt didn't work.

Zane lunged forward but I was quicker, I screeched and ran away.

"No!" I laughed and ran out the back door and into the backyard.

"Zane! If you really care about me you won't do this!

" I slowly backed away with my hands up in surrender.

He grinned and held up his hands wiggling his fingers.

"Zane!" I screeched again and turned around, running through the woods.

I dodged trees and jumped over fallen branches and bushes.

"No!" I giggled as I heard his fast-paced footsteps get closer then completely disappear.

I frowned and turned around. No one was there.

"Zane?" I heard some more footsteps behind me so I turned around.

A small gasp escaped my parted lips as Zane stood on all fours in front of me.

"Zane?" I stayed planted where I was and his mouth opened, howling up at the sun.

I giggled and kneeled down on the ground, his wolf was huge so I had to crane my neck up to look at him.

He slowly walked forward but stopped a few feet away.

He howled again and I laughed. "I'm okay," I assured him and he laid down right in front of me, placing his large head on his front paws.

"You're so cute." I giggled making him growl.

"You are." And with that I slowly reached my hand forward, he lifted his head up and met me halfway.

I slowly caressed his brown fur as he stared intently at me.

"Ah, and who do we have here?" I heard an unfamiliar voice asked.

I turned my head to the left and furrowed my brows.

Zane growled and stood up. "Another little toy, Alpha?

" The man laughed and Zane stepped in front of me, blocking the man from sight.

"What's wrong? Don't wanna share with your own brother?

" My mouth gaped open ad I walked around Zane who growled in response.

Zane never mentioned anything about a brother, or family for that matter.

"She's a pretty one isn't she?" He stepped forward and smirked at me.

"Who are you?" I asked then mentally cringed. "What do you want?" I decided to stay where I was, planted next to Zane, partially leaning on him. This wasn't just in order for me to feel better, it was also a miserable attempt to keep Zane at bay.

"I'm Dylan. Zane's brother." He smirked, once again aimed at me. "And I would like dinner. With you." I blushed and hid my face in Zane's side. "What's your name beautiful?" He tried to flirt again causing a growl to erupt within Zane's chest.

"Can you change back?" I softly asked him and he nodded. He went to go behind a tree then stopped. His eyes found mine and he motioned me to follow him. I walked with him and turned my back as he grunted in pain. After a few minutes, warm arms circled my body and he kissed down my neck.

"I'm sorry, Sunshine." I turned around to face him and bit my bottom lip.

Grabbing his cheek, I brought my lips to his.

He was the first to pull away, making me frown.

"As much as I would like to make you moan, having my brother in hearing range isn't the best idea.

" I slapped his arm and blushed. I was a moaner.

I cringed at my own thought and nodded. "Dylan.

" Zane coldly greeted as we stepped back into the clearing where Dylan stood.

"Brother." Dylan grinned. "I came back to say hello and check in with my little brother, but now this little girl has me intrigued." He flashed another dazzling smile my way and Zane punched his nose. I gasped and pulled Zane back.

"That girl is my mate!" He growled and Dylan smiled again.

"Oh, how interesting. I didn't know one could obtain two mates." I flinched and stepped back, retracting my hands from Zane. "Oh, I'm sorry. I have been mistaken, you haven't had that talk yet?" Zane hesitantly looked back at me with sorrow in his eyes.

"Devina I-" He reached for me but I slapped his hand away.

"Don't touch me," I growled and Dylan laughed.

"Feisty. I like it." But we weren't paying attention to him anymore. I swallowed the lump in my throat and blinked rapidly, so my tears wouldn't fall.

"You made me feel special. You made me think that it was fate, Zane.

That I was the only person made for you.

" He shook his head and tried to take a step forward but I matched his movements, only this time I took a step back.

Not only with my feet, but in our relationship.

I felt betrayed. There's someone else out there made for him. Meant for him. More destined than I am.

"Devina no, you don't understand." I nodded my head, agreeing with him.

"You're right. I don't understand. I don't understand you." I took another step back and Zane shook his head.

"Sunshine," I shook my head too and walked away.

"I'm going to stay with Mika for a few days," Zane growled and grabbed my arm.

"No, you aren't. I just got you back, I'm not losing you again." I scoffed and tried to push him away, but got nowhere.

"You can't tell me what to do Zane! I'm not yours." I spat out, his face contorted into anger.

"Yes, you are dammit! You are mine! You've always been mine! You aren't leaving!" He yelled back making me flinch.

"I don't want to live with you," I yelled, not quite matching his tone but it was pretty close.

"Then don't live with me. But you aren't leaving me! I forbid it!" Tears escaped down my cheeks as he spoke those words.

"You forbid it, huh?" I bit my bottom lip and nodded. "I'll just be your prisoner? Is that what you want? For me to stay with you because you're making me? Unwillingly?" His hard expression softened and he brought his filthy hands up to my cheek. "Don't freaking touch me!" I yelled.

"Devina, you can stay with me for a few days. I'm just across from Zane's house. I wanted to be close to my dear brother." I knew what Dylan was trying to do, he was trying to make Zane mad. But so was I.

"Okay. Thank you." I started to walk towards Dylan but Zane yanked my hand back. I gasped as he let go of my hand.

"Sorry-I please just don't leave me." I continued my walk towards Dylan who had his arms open. I turned back around to Zane.

"I'm not leaving you. I'll just be in a different house." And for Dylan? I turned on my heel and smacked his cheek.

"I'm not staying with you because I like you.

I'm staying with you because I have to. Now stop with the flirting otherwise I won't just smack you next time.

" I yelled with authority and his green eyes bulged.

He quickly nodded and looked away. I faintly heard Zane snicker so I turned back around and smacked him too.

I've gotten good at this. "That's what you get for lying to me.

Lying to me about something that's not just about you.

" A tear escaped my crystal blue eyes and I walked away.

But not before adding one more thing. "And I'm going to school.

Starting Monday. Get me registered, otherwise, I'll go live with Mika and go to my old school. " And then I walked away.
