Ninteen
~Devina's POV~
Once Zane had decided that I was well enough to go out, I hurried back to Dylan's house to start getting ready.
Unsurprisingly, he wasn't home so it was just me.
In some way, I kind of prefer it that way.
Not because I don't like Dylan, but because it's nice to have some alone time sometimes.
I practically ran to my room and started digging through my closet.
After a few minutes, I finally found a black dress that I had bought with Gillie a few weeks ago.
I smiled and pulled it on. It fit perfectly.
I hurried into the bathroom and twirled around in front of the mirror.
After a few twirls, I went into my makeup.
I kept things simple with just some concealer, mascara, eyeliner and chapstick.
Right when I finished, the doorbell rang.
My heart nearly jumped out of my chest as I made my way downstairs.
When I finally reached the door, I slowly opened it and shyly smiled at Zane.
"I-I um these are for you." He awkwardly handed me a beautiful bouquet of roses and scratched the back of his neck. "You-you look really good." He closed his eyes and chuckled. "You look beautiful."
"So do you." My eyes widened and my cheeks flushed. "I mean you look very-very um handsome." He smirked and my face felt like it was burning. "Why is this so awkward?" I tilted my head back and groaned. He chuckled again and grabbed my hand, lacing our fingers together.
"I'll try to make it as comfortable as I can Sunshine. But let's get going." I giggled and pulled him outside to his Audi.
"I miss your GT-R." I laughed and he stopped walking.
"I'll call someone to come bring it." He went to take his phone out of his pocket but I grabbed it out of his hands.
"No. I didn't mean it like that," His phone vibrated in my hand and out of instinct I checked it. Then my heart sank and I wish I didn't.
"What? Who is it?" I wanted to know the same thing, the number wasn't saved into his phone but the message was a really revealing picture of someone in their matching black bra and lacy underwear. The only thing sent after that was "-A". I handed him the phone and faked a smile.
"Um, just someone whose name starts with A." I tried to laugh. "Sorry for looking." I was proud of myself for not reacting too much, as for Zane, he just checked the message and his eyes widened.
"I-I um I didn't ask for that-" I cut him off with a smile and started walking towards the car.
"It's fine. Let's just go, I don't want to stay out too late.
" I opened the passenger side door and sat down.
Zane soon followed and started the car. Usually, if I was alone in the car with someone I would ask where we were going, but I never asked Zane.
Maybe because I was afraid of the awkward socialization.
"I thought, we would just go out to dinner and maybe go for a walk afterward?" He finally spoke as we pulled up to a nice looking restaurant.
"Sounds good." I got out of the car and fixed my dress. Zane walked around to my side and watched me with a smirk planted on his lips.
"You really do look beautiful." He commented making me blush. Does he say that to "A" too? "Shall we?" Somehow I managed to laugh and followed him inside.
The food was nice, and the small talk was mediocre. Everything was awkward and tense between us.
"Devina when you saw that picture what did you really think? Are you jealous?" Zane finally broke the silence as we walked through there woods behind the restaurant. I scoffed and looked away.
"What? Why are we still talking about this?" Zane stopped walking and forced me to a stop also.
"Just-" He closed his eyes and opened them again, they held so much emotion and frustration. "You acted like you didn't care!" I snapped my eyes back towards Zane.
"We never said we were exclusive Zane." I retorted and Zane's eyes turned black.
"We're not exclusive? What the hell does that mean!?" He yelled.
"It means that I'm not yours and you aren't mine!" I matched his tone.
"You are mine, Devina! You are mine and only mine." He went to grab my hand but I pulled it back. "We are exclusive. You can't see other guys. And no more "rides" with Ashton." He used his fingers to quote rides which made me bubble over with rage.
"I'm not like her." I almost whispered. "I'm not going to send you pictures like that or do those kinds of things." His eyes turned back to their normal shade.
"I know that Devina. I-I'm sorry I didn't mean it like that. I'm not expecting you to." Nothing he was saying was registering in my mind. I didn't believe him.
"I've heard people talk at school Zane. I've heard what they have to say about you. You just use girls. You sleep with them then discard them like a-a broken pencil!" I cringed at my own words but acted like I was proud of them.
"No, I used to do that. I swear Devina, I'm not like that anymore.
I've changed. You've changed me." I slowly looked back up into his green eyes and this is the moment where I fell in love with him.
Things weren't perfect, not even close but he made them seem nearly perfect.
He made everything better. "I-I I really like you, Devina.
A lot. And I don't want you to be around other guys.
I want us to be exclusive. Okay?" I bit my bottom lip to stop my face from breaking out into a huge grin and watched as his eyes trailed down to my lips.
I quickly let go of the skin and walked a little closer to him.
"I really like you too." I shyly admitted and he grinned. "And I don't want you being with other girls. I know I can't- I won't give you certain things but-" He frowned and cut me off.
"No. No, I don't want anything you don't. I only want what you're ready for and what you want. Don't do that Sunshine. Please." His soft fingers lifted my chin up so I was forced to look him in the eyes again. "We're exclusive?" I smirked and shrugged.
"I don't know Zane, I really like you but I also really like Ashton." I tried my best not to laugh but Zane's reaction wasn't anywhere near mine.
"That fucking asshole!" He stepped away from me and ran his fingers through his hair.
"I knew it. What did I fucking tell you?
" At this point, I couldn't hold my laughter in anymore.
I burst out and fell to the ground. "This isn't funny Devina!
You like him!?" I shook my head mostly answering his question but also at his reaction.
"Please tell me you like me more." He took a step forward and helped me up.
"I'm joking Zane." I laughed some more and his face hardened.
"That's not funny." He seriously said making me stop laughing completely. "You aren't hanging out with him anymore. At least not alone." He started to walk away but I just giggled and grabbed his arm.
"Zane," He just shook his head and tried to push me off again. "Zane stop." I groaned but he just kept walking. "Come back here or else I won't tell you my real answer!" He stopped walking and hesitantly turned around.
"No, go tell Ashton your answer." I laughed and walked over to him.
Standing on my tippy toes, I crashed my lips onto his.
It only took a split second before he responded by pushing me up against a tree.
"Now tell me your answer." He growled and pulled away, leaving me gasping for air.
I smiled and acted like I was thinking about it.
"If we were to be exclusive, that means that you can't do things with other girls right? And same for me?" He chuckled and nodded. "And I'm still allowed to hang out with my guy friends?" He tensed and growled.
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes!"
"Oh my-" He rolled his eyes. "Fine." I smiled and pecked his lips again, quickly pulling back Zane growled. "No more teasing." And with that, he smashed his lips onto mine and I responded with as much hunger and passion as him.
"Yes," I said, pulling away for air. "We're exclusive." Zane grinned and picked me up, twirling me around then kissing me again.
"Does this mean I can try to convince you into moving back in with me?" He shyly asked and I smirked.
"Sure." He grinned. "You can't try. It's a free country. You can say pretty much whatever you want." He growled and set me back down on the ground.
"You live with my brother." He stated and I nodded. "How is that right?" I shrugged and led him back to the car.
"It would be weird if I lived with you." He rolled his eyes and opened the passenger door for me.
"No, it wouldn't. You're my mate." He said like it was the most obvious hung in the world.
"I'm only sixteen." I pointed out.
"Seventeen." Zane corrected. "Speaking of which, I got you in to take your driver's license test."
"But I need to take drivers ed."
"Not when your bo-" Zane swallowed and cut himself off.
He was going to say boyfriend. "Not when your mate is the Alpha.
" This little mix-up made me think. What are we?
Are we even anything? He shut the door and hopped into the driver's seat.
"But speaking of your birthday," He grinned and pulled out a small black box.
"I know it was a while ago but things kept happening and I never got the chance to give this to you.
" He handed the box to me and I rolled my eyes.
"You didn't have to get me anything." Zane sent me a death glare and nodded towards the small box in my hands.
I sighed and opened it. Inside was a silver half moon pendant necklace.
I gasped and touched the pendant. "It's beautiful," I whispered.
Zane took the necklace out of the box and placed it around my neck.
"Now everyone will know who you belong to. Look." He pointed at he necklace which now had a glowing red Z on it. "When I'm near, it glows." I picked up the necklace around my neck and examined it.
"How?" He shrugged and ran a finger across it, making my heart beat faster, his hands were very close to my chest.
"A spell." I smiled and Zane drove us home. As we pulled into Dylan's driveway, I didn't want to Zane to leave. I frowned and turned towards him. "What's wrong Sunshine?"
"I want you to be around more," I mumbled making him grin.
"Done." He leaned in and captured my lips with his. The kiss deepened and somehow I ended up on Zane's lap with my hands tangled in his hair. "You could stay with me tonight. We would just sleep, nothing else." He pulled away and pushed a few strands of hair behind my ear.
"I don't know," I trailed off making him nod and kiss my forehead.
"Then don't stay up too late okay? Get some sleep." I smiled and got out of the car. "Bye Sunshine."
"Bye Zane." But I knew better than that, I won't be getting much sleep tonight.
