Twenty One

~Devina's POV~

I could pretend like I didn't hear him. I could act like I didn't hear anything. I could do a lot of things, but it wouldn't be right.

"What did you just say?" I asked, with hurt and disgust laced in my voice.

"I-I said I-" He slowly walked over to me but as soon as he saw the vicious expression on my face he put his hands up.

"Why would you say that?" He closed his eyes and shook his head.

"Devina, you're overreacting. Just ca-" I cut him off again.

"I swear to God if you say just calm down I will rip your head off and throw it all the way over to the other side of the world so they can sell it. I bet I'd get a lot of money for that. Selling an Alpha's head!" He took another step forwards but I gave him a warning look.

"Devina-" I narrowed my eyes making him stop what he was about to say.

"What's going on here?" Dylan asked as he just walked into Zane's house.

"Go ahead, Zane! Tell him what you just told me." Zane rolled his eyes and turned towards his brother.

"I said that I-" He stopped talking and dryly laughed. "This is so stupid Devina. It's not that big of a deal." I scoffed and crossed my arms over my chest.

"If it's not that big of a deal then why did you say it? You could have just shut up!" I pointed out making Dylan narrow his eyes and step in between us.

"What's going on? Zane, what have you done?" Dylan questioned him.

"She," Zane stepped aside so he could see me and pointed at me. "Made me watch Supernatural and I said I liked Sam better." Dylan turned so he was facing us both and I saw his hazel eyes widen.

"Big mistake Zane." Dylan finally spoke.

"It's not a big deal!" Zane flung his arms up in the air and dropped them back down at his side.

"Here we go again," Dylan muttered and stepped back. The first time we watched this show together, Dylan made the same mistake as Zane.

"First of all, who is always there for Sam when he's in trouble? Dean. And who risked his life getting the Mark of Cain so he could kill Abaddon? Dean. And who is more attractive? Dean!" Zane's eyes turned black and he took a step forward.

"He is not more attractive than me." He growled making me chuckle.

"Jensen Ackles is hotter than you." Zane took another step forward so that he was now only a few inches away.

"Take that back, Devina." He growled again but I turned my chin up and shook my head.

"No. It's true." Zane stepped back and scoffed.

"Then be with him!" He fumed making me think, are we together?

"Well, I am single..." I trailed off. Zane turned towards Dylan.

"Leave." When Dylan didn't move, he pointed to the door. "Now!" Dylan sighed and walked back to his house. "What did you just say?" He repeated my words from earlier.

"I said that I'm single." A quiet growl escaped his chest as his ears picked up those words. "But Jensen Ackles isn't, he has a wife and children."

"You aren't single Devina!" I furrowed my brows and frowned.

"Yes, I am Zane!" I yelled back matching his tone.

"What about us then? Huh? We aren't together?" My heart clenched and I looked away, slowly shaking my head.

"No." I simply said making Zane step forward and caging me in between his muscular arms and the wall.

"We aren't?" He smirked, sending my pulse racing.

"N-no," I repeated, a little less confident now with the lack of distance between us.

"Then if we aren't together," He leaned forward, even closer and his tempting lips barely brushed against mine. I closed my eyes, waiting for them to make contact but they never did. "I probably shouldn't kiss you." He backed up and started to walk away, leaving me dumbfounded.

"Hey, Zane?" I called out, causing him to turn back around giving me a smirk. I knew he was expecting me to tell him to kiss me but two can play at this game. "Can I stay here tonight?" The smirk vanished. "With you?" I slowly added making him clear his throat.

"Yeah - um- sure." He nodded and I ran into his arms and wrapped my legs around his waist. He caught me and put his hands under my bottom. I leaned down to kiss his lips, but then at the last minute, I kissed his cheek. "Uh-"

"Thank you! You're the best!" I jumped down from his arms and jogged up the stairs, not before stealing a glance back at Zane who was checking out my butt.

My cheeks reddened and so did his when he realized I caught him.

I hurried back to my room and went to the dresser.

Stopping, I took a deep breath and opened my door.

"Zane?" As soon as the words left my mouth I heard pounding up the stairs and he was right in front of me.

"Yeah?"

"Can I shower in your bathroom?" He swallowed and slowly nodded.

"Uh huh. You can shower in my bathroom. Where I shower.

" He furrowed his eyebrows and stared off at the wall.

"You'll be naked in my bathroom." My eyes widened and my cheeks burned.

He turned back towards me and flashed me a bright smile, adding a little wink.

"You know, we could save some water." I swallowed.

"I think Washington has enough water." He chuckled and nodded.

"I'll stay in the bedroom. I told you I'm not leaving you anytime soon.

" I rolled my eyes and walked into his bathroom.

What am I doing? I asked myself as I looked in the mirror.

I shook my head and hopped into the shower.

Once I was done, I reached for a towel. Which wasn't there.

My heart pounded as I slowly walked to the door.

Turning back around, I slipped on my matching black bra and panties and hurried back to the door.

"Zane?" I nervously called out, immediately hearing footsteps to in front of the door.

"Yes, Sunshine?"

"I-I don't have a towel." I didn't hear anything for awhile but soon, there was a knock on the door.

"I got you one." I nodded and went to open the door.

"Turn around," I ordered him before slowly opening the bathroom door.

His back was faced towards me as he held the towel behind his back for me to take.

I grabbed it and wrapped it around my body.

He swiftly turned around and raked in my appearance.

"You really need to stop doing that! What if I was naked?

" He looked down at my chest and swallowed.

"That's what I was hoping for." He met my eyes and crashed his lips down on mine.

"Tell me when to stop, okay?" I nodded and eagerly responded to the kiss, opening my mouth, allowing him permission.

He grabbed my hips and hoisted me up on his waist. I could feel a hard bulge in his pants.

He carried me to the bed and carefully set me down on my back.

Pulling away from the kiss he looked back down at my body.

"We should stop." He said, maybe more to himself than to me.

My core burn, wanting him to be near. I shook my head.

"No. I don't want to stop." I sat up and pulled him close so his body was in between my legs. "I want you, Zane." With that, he nodded and crashed his lips back down on mine where they belong.

"We won't go all the way tonight." He spoke and pulled away again. I arched my back and closed my eyes.

"Okay, just-" I struggled for the right words making his eyes turn black. He nodded and started grabbing the towel.

"Can I?" He asked. I swallowed and looked down at his hands that weren't touching my bare skin anymore.

I quickly nodded before I could change my mind.

He slowly pulled the towel away and took in my half-naked body.

Licking his lips he ran his fingers over my stomach.

"You're beautiful." He whispered and lowered his head down to my torso.

"We're together. Say we're together." My eyes opened as he pulled away for what felt like the hundredth time.

I squirmed and pleaded him with my eyes.

"We're together." I breathed out and looked down at his lips.

···

"Are you okay? Did I hurt you?" I swallowed as my breathing started to even out again. I shook my head.

"Is it always like that?" I finally spoke making him chuckle. He pulled me up so I was sitting and kissed down my neck.

"It can be better." My face flushed as I realized I was still naked.

He noticed too and looked down at my legs where all my scars are.

I covered them with my hands and looked down.

"Let me see." He whispered, but I just shook my head.

"Let me see Devina." I looked away as a tear fell down my cheek and took my hands away.

He ran his fingers over some of the deeper ones.

"I'll make things better." He whispered right before I felt a something hot sting my thighs.

My eyes snapped back down to them as I watched his hands emit a white light.

"What are you doing?" He closed his eyes and the light grew brighter, soon the light faded and so did the intense heat.

He smiled and removed his hands from my thighs.

No scars were on them anymore. I gasped and looked down at them closer.

"What-How?" He trailed his fingers up my body until they reached my face and kissed my lips again.

"I healed them."

···

Waking up the next morning, I smiled and rolled over to face Zane. He was still sleeping so I kissed his bare chest. He groaned and opened his eyes.

"Good morning Sunshine." He smiled and brought his lips to mine.

After a few minutes, I pulled away and sat up.

Pain shot through down there. "Are you okay?

" I quickly nodded and sat up. I waddled a little before Zane came over, with concern written all over his face.

"You're in pain." He stated. "I'm so sorry Sunshine.

I shouldn't have gone so-" I cut him off and shook my head.

"No, it's fine. I wanted you to." He nodded and looked over my still bare body.

"Come on, maybe a bath will help." He helped me to the bathroom and turned the water on. As soon as the huge tub was filled, he began walking out.

"No. Stay with me." He quirked a brow and looked over at the tub. I nodded and his eyes widened.

"You don't have to tell me twice." He spoke. I looked down at his pants. "I'll keep them on." He reassured me making me nod. I don't think I'm ready for that. I climbed into the tub and Zane soon followed, sitting across from me. His legs were too long to fit, making me giggle.

"You're too big!" He smirked.

"You have no idea." He winked. My cheeks reddened as I splashed water at him. "Come here." I did as he asked and crawled over to him, placing my back against his chest. "Better?" I nodded and laid my head back on his left shoulder.

"Is-" I swallowed and contemplated asking this. "Will the other stuff hurt?" I shyly asked. I could tell he was smiling. "Don't laugh!"

"I'm not laughing, I'm just glad you feel comfortable with me enough to ask me that." He smiled and kissed the top of my head. "Yes, if you haven't done it before it will hurt a little." I nodded.

"Well, I've done something like it before," I smirked, feeling him tense behind me.

"What? With who?" He growled. I pretended to think.

"It was with this really cute guy," I started making him growl again. "Not too long ago."

"Did we know each other?" I pretended to think again.

"Yeah, we did." He flinched but I still turned around. "Did I mention he was cute?" He angerly looked away and rolled his eyes. "And did I mention, it was last night?" I turned his face so he was looking at me and slid into his lap.

"It was me right? I'm the guy?" I giggled and kissed down his neck.

"Yes." He smiled and pulled me closer.

"I'm not cute." I kissed the tip of his nose and laughed. "I'm hot. And sexy." I rolled my eyes. "Say it." He playfully demanded.

"You're h-" I was cut off by the doorbell.

Zane grabbed my face and looked into my eyes.

"Ot." I finished making him narrow his eyes.

I smiled and got out of the tub. "We should go get that.

" Zane nodded and threw me a shirt that was lying on the ground.

I caught it and slid it on over my head.

I hurried down the stairs and right when I was opening the door Zane came rushing down.

"No. Don't-" But it was too late, I looked beyond the doorframe at someone familiar.

"Zane." The girl cooed making em flinched. "You were supposed to call me." She pouted and walked right past me. I blinked a few times and watched as she placed her hand on his bare chest.

"Ashley leave." Ashley. A. took a step back and she merely glanced at me.

"Really? You left to be with her?" Zane sent her a warning look but she smirked and continued.

"Those couple of weeks before you went into heat and Zane had left?

" She started looked directly at me. "He was with me.

And I can tell you one thing. We barely ever left the bedroom.

" I blinked again as my heart broke into a million pieces.

"But that's not all. When Dylan came to get him, Zane almost didn't go.

" She pulled out her phone and tapped on the screen and an audio recording started to play.

"What the hell do you want?" I heard Zane ask. "Here to take my toys away too?" My breath caught in my throat as I looked back at the face of that voice. He shook his head and tried to come forward but I held my hand out, wanting to hear the rest.

"Hello, Dylan. Long time no see." I heard Gwen speak.

"Wow. And you called me shallow, brother?" Within a few seconds, I heard a loud smack and registered that someone had just been hit. "Fine. Let Devina suffer." Dylan spoke.

"She's suffering because of you! You're the one who came here and ruined everything!" Zane screamed and there was another loud thud.

"I'm sorry!" Dylan yelled back. "I was doing it to hurt you then I got to know Devina. She doesn't deserve this. She's happier with you Zane." There was another pause and I wished this was a video. "She's going into heat." Zane just dryly chuckled making me furrow my eyebrows in confusion.

"So what? I bet she's just throwing herself at every living male creature now. I don't need to see that."

"No, she isn't." Dylan defended me. "She won't let anyone touch her. She won't eat or drink. She just stares blankly at the wall all day Zane." I swallowed the lump in my throat.

"Is she okay?" Zane whispered and I shook my head at his pathetic attempt to sound concerned.

"She won't make it if you don't come back." I took a step back from everyone but still listened to the audio recording.

"Why should I come back?" Zane finally spoke, crushing my heart completely.

"You'd let her die?"

"I'm better off without a mate." My heart clenched as the recording stopped.

"Devina please just-"

"Let you explain? You don't need to. I understand. You're better off without me. I understand perfectly." And with that, I turned on my heel and ran into the woods.

~Zane's POV~

She turned and ran. Away from me and the rest of her problems. I fell to my knees, not able to comprehend what just happened. I heard Gwen giggle and that's what set me off.

"YOU BITCH!" I screamed and pinned her against the nearest wall. Even with my hands around her neck, she still managed to smile.

"J-just like-" Her eyes rolled to the back of her head but then, unfortunately, came back. "Old times." She finished.

"I'm going to kill you," I said before ripping her head right off of her neck.

Her headless body went limp and without me holding it up, I fell to the floor.

I threw the head across the living room and ran outside.

"Devina!" I screamed and followed her scent into the trees.

After a few more minutes of running, I could smell her.

I looked all around but didn't see her so I started talking.

"I thought I was better off without you.

I did." My voice cracked as I fell to the ground.

"But I can't live without you. I would be nothing without you.

You don't make me weak Devina. You make me stronger.

" I heard movement and my head snapped towards the direction.

There she stood in just my shirt which was now all torn and dirty.

She looked over my appearance and took a step back.

I must look terrible right now. "I'm not asking you to forgive me right now.

I know I've done too much to forgive but I'm sorry.

I am so so sorry." She nodded and took a few steps forward.

I closed my eyes and stood up on my feet, swaying a little.

"I'm sorry." When I opened my eyes she was only a few inches away from me.

"I'm glad we didn't go all the way." She finally spoke making me flinch.

"I'm glad," A tear fell down her cheek making me want to comfort her and make her feel better.

"I'm glad I really know what you are." She shoved me and I didn't resist, I deserved that.

"You're a monster." Shove. And that. "When you first changed, that's what I thought.

" Shove. " And you made me believe that you weren't. That I belong with you.

" Shove. "That we were meant to be. You lied.

To yourself and to me. You." Shove. "Lied.

" Shove. My back hit the tree but I didn't make her stop, she needed to get this all out.

She was sobbing now, probably could barely see me through her watery eyes.

"Why do you always do this Zane?" She screamed.

"Why do you always ruin things?!" She slid to the ground and so did I.

"Why do you always," She hiccuped. "Hurt me? " My heart broke.

"I'm sorry. I know I promised I would never hurt you, Devina.

I'm sorry I let you down. I'm sorry for everything, Sunshine.

If I could go back and change things I would," I tucked a strand of blonde hair behind her ear and she let me.

"But I wouldn't change meeting you. I'm selfish, I know that.

Believe me, I do." She whimpered and laid her head down in my lap.

She's too good for me, I don't deserve her and she doesn't deserve this.

"But I'm going to leave. You don't deserve this Sunshine.

I don't deserve you. I've done nothing but hurt you. " She jerked up and shook her head.

"Y-you can't just leave!" She yelled but I sucked in a deep breath, tried my best to push my feelings aside and stood up.

"NO!" She screamed trying to pull my hand back.

I kept walking. "I-I won't let you leave me, Zane!

" Tears streamed down my face as I tore her off of me.

"The last time I hurt myself or even thought about it was before I met you.

" I stopped walking and ran my fingers through my hair.

Is she threatening to hurt herself if I leave?

"Don't Devina. Don't threaten me." I turned back around and saw that she was on her knees, with tear stained cheeks.

"I-I'm not. I'm saying that I'm happier with you.

" She whispered. I closed my eyes, not being able to look at her going through so much pain.

"I can't live without you either." I fell to the ground and rested my forehead on my knees.

For one of the first times in my life, I don't know what to do.

"You can't leave me. You'd hurt me more if you leave.

" After a few minutes, when I didn't say anything.

She got up. "Fine! Leave!" She started walking away but before she could get very far I made my decision and jumped up, grabbing her hand, turning her around and smashing my lips onto hers.

Her kisses were like the first gulp of water after a thousand years of wandering through the desert.

She clenched my thirst more than water ever could.
