Chapter twenty
Mixed Messages
Maggie
Iwas kissing Paul!
All rational thought melted away as he electrified my body with his voracious lips while exploring me with his calloused hands.
Even when he tore his lips away from mine, he blazed a trail from my neck down to my shoulders, then pulled the tank strap down to feast on my breast. I hadn’t expected him to feel rough and reverent at the same time.
Even more shocking was how his lips wrapped around my nipples sent lightning to my core.
He sucked, gently at first, then more fervently until my inner muscles spasmed, stimulating new sensations in my lady bits.
Grasping his head to keep from dissolving into a mess of desire, I encouraged him to continue.
When he again thrust his massive cock into my sensitive lower lips, I gasped in sheer ecstasy. My body wanted more, and whatever he was doing was beyond incredible, so I urged him to continue. Finally feeling him be aroused by me, wanting me, was everything I’d always wanted.
My desire for more of him was so strong that I reached between us to tug at his belt.
“Wait,” he said, stilling my hand as he stumbled a little, panting.
“What?” I asked, instead unbuttoning his shirt. “We’re both adults. I want this, don’t you?”
Leaning his chin back, he allowed me room to lavish his neck and collar bone with open-mouthed kisses as I writhed against him. But when I went for his belt again, he took my hands, holding them to his chest, and stared into my eyes. He looked tortured.
“What is it?” I asked, wearing a devilish grin.
He wet his lips, leaning his forehead heavily on mine. “I don’t have protection.”
I sucked in a breath, considering whether I was willing to go without it. Letting out a sigh, I knew I wasn’t. I had my own form of protection, but I knew it was still a risk to go without a condom.
“Should I make sure to have some?” he asked, glancing away embarrassed. “For another time?”
With one hand on his jaw, I guided him back to look at me before giving him a deep, languid kiss.
“Definitely,” I said breathlessly when we separated.
Then, I wondered if that was too forward. Wasn’t I making a huge assumption? I thought I should back off so I didn’t make things awkward.
“I mean, if you want to,” I said quickly, wiggling to lower my legs and adjusting my shirt.
He let me down, taking a step back. “Whenever you’re ready, I’m here,” he replied, as he rebuttoned his shirt. “No pressure or anything, though.”
While I thought he’d run away like he used to when we were in high school, he switched places with me, with his back to the tree, and pulled me to his chest.
Listening to the cicadas sing for a while, he wrapped his arms around me, holding me. Not ready to let go. Something about the way he clung to me made me wonder what happened in his life today. It didn’t seem like he wanted to talk about it, which only made me that much more curious.
As the sun was almost ready to retire, Paul leaned forward, using one hand to pull my hair back so he could press a kiss to my neck. “It’s been a helluva day, hasn’t it?”
I shuddered, the feel of Paul’s lips on my neck like a dream I never wanted to end.
“Yeah,” I said, blissfully. It was impossible to believe I started today in Mainview and ended it here, on Paul’s farm, making out under the stars.
“Getting late, I guess,” he said hesitantly.
I wanted to clutch his arms and beg him to just stay longer, but that was his cue. It’s what he always said when we were kids and he was ready for me to leave, so I stepped forward, separating us.
“Maybe you could walk me back to my car?” I asked with a shy smile.
He plucked my camera from the tree branch, handed it to me carefully, and took my hand with a nod. Turning on his phone flashlight, he led the way.
Paul didn’t usually say much. The quiet after spending intimate time with him wasn’t strange per se, but I hoped he would at least say something about what we’d just done together.
“So …” I said, trying to start the conversation. “That was unexpected.”
“The whole day was unexpected,” he muttered.
“Good things, though, right?” I nudged.
My insecurities hit hard, wondering if coming back into his life was what bothered him.
He gave my hand a squeeze, then helped me navigate a section with a large fallen branch. “Mostly.”
It was always hard to draw words from Paul. As a man, though, it might be worse. I wasn’t expecting a long monologue, but I’d hoped for something. Maybe even a smile. Since getting him to talk required too much energy for what I had left from the day, I gave up for now.
When we made it to my car, he looked it over. “Rental?”
I nodded. “I don’t own one. It’s a pain to have one in the city.”
His lips parted like he might say something, but he didn’t, so I used the key fob to unlock it.
Moving around him, I expected to open the door when he wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me back to him where he crushed his lips against mine.
Bending my back over the car hood, his strong, possessive hands pulled up my skirt as he set me on the hood, then brought my knees around his hips.
With my skirt out of his way, he thrust his steel, jean-clad shaft against my panties.
Sheer, lust-filled desire fueled us as we thrusted toward each other. I tugged down my tank strap, and only then would he tear his lips from mine to suck on my nipple. This time, rarely-used muscles startled from their slumber, spasming and quaking inside of me.
Did I care anymore that we didn’t have a condom? Nope, not even a little.
Desperately, I clutched his arms, hoping he wouldn’t stop ravishing me. I wanted everything he was doing more than my next breath.
“Do you have any idea how much I want to lay you out and pleasure you?” he murmured as he kissed up to my neck.
I sat up to allow him more access the closer he came to my neck, which led him to trail his fingers toward my damp panties. Clutching his cock, I encouraged him to touch me, too. Pumping his shaft, I was desperate for him.
Then, without warning, he let out a grunt and vanished.
“Good night, Mags,” he hollered over his shoulder as he jogged toward his house. “Hope I see you tomorrow.”
I couldn’t move for a moment, my breath coming out in choked pants. What was that? How could he want me one second and be gone the next?
When I finally had control of my faculties, I peeled myself off the car, stumbling as I adjusted my clothes.
Somehow, I managed to get back to my hotel room.
The first thing I did was check in the mirror for evidence that I really made out with Paul.
From the redness on my neck, it was real.
Paul’s scratchy stubble really had been there.
If I hadn’t seen the evidence of it, I would have thought it was just a brief but exquisite dream. And it could happen again tomorrow.
I had no idea how I’d sleep knowing what could happen the next time we met, but, more importantly, I had no idea what to tell Mom in the morning when she asked how things went.
