Chapter 8 The Slap

Lu Huaichuan’s face looked grim.

And Zhao Yu still had to add fuel to it. He held a cup of water and leaned lazily against the island counter, raising his brows at me.

"Chengting, your ex-boyfriend seems to be looking for you?"

When he emphasized the words "ex-boyfriend," I even saw veins pop up on the back of Lu Huaichuan’s hand.

He strode toward me. Zhao Yu shifted and blocked him in front of me.

Lu Huaichuan squeezed out two words through his teeth. "Move."

Zhao Yu spoke casually. "Kid, take one more step and I’ll report you for trespassing."

Zhao Yu might act unreliable, but he had a ninth-degree black belt in taekwondo.

Lu Huaichuan’s gaze cut past Zhao Yu’s shoulder and landed on me, cold as ice.

"So this is why you wanted to Break Up with me?"

I didn’t really understand.

Why did Lu Huaichuan look like he’d come to interrogate me?

I thought he couldn’t wait to never see me again.

Why would he fly all the way back?

Did something happen over there?

Thinking that, I asked him, "Why did you come back?"

The moment it left my mouth, it sounded wrong.

Like Zhao Yu and I had something going on and he’d caught us red-handed.

Sure enough, Lu Huaichuan let out a cold laugh. "If I didn’t come back, how would I catch you two in the middle of your fun?"

"So that’s why you were so eager to Break Up. You already found someone new."

I sighed and patted Zhao Yu’s shoulder. "Zhao Yu, step aside first. Let me talk to him."

Zhao Yu glanced at Lu Huaichuan, walked over, and draped the blanket from the sofa onto my shoulders.

"Put it on. Your cold isn’t fully better yet."

Then he put on his headphones and went back to his room.

I poured Lu Huaichuan a cup of hot water. "Sit."

Lu Huaichuan sat on the sofa across from me.

After a long silence, neither of us spoke first.

In the end, I couldn’t stand it. "Huaichuan, you came back all of a sudden—did something happen in Canada?"

Lu Huaichuan said, "What? You hoping something happened to me?"

I sighed and stood up. "If you’re going to talk to me with that kind of attitude, we can talk another day."

"No!" Lu Huaichuan grabbed my wrist. His burning palm made my skin go numb where he held me.

"We’re talking now."

"Let’s talk about when you started messing around with that Zhao guy!"

"Did you do it?"

"On the bed in there, or on this sofa—"

"Pa!" I slapped him across the face with my backhand.

No matter how well-mannered I was, I couldn’t take his filthy insults over and over again.

Besides—the one who cheated was clearly him.

What right did he have to bite back?

Lu Huaichuan’s head turned from the hit. He licked his back molar and laughed in anger.

"Zhou Chengting, you’ve still got strength to hit people. Looks like Zhao Yu can’t do it."

"When you were with me, you couldn’t even get out of bed."
