Chapter 8 Trouble Came To Me
But I did not go looking for trouble. Trouble came looking for me.
Qin Ruoyi blocked my cave first thing in the morning.
I was too sleepy to open my eyes, but I still opened the door for her.
"Come with me to the secret realm for a Spirit Root Fruit," Qin Ruoyi said, short and clear.
"I am not going!" I glared at her. "You are Golden Core. I am Foundation Establishment. You think I can survive the places you go? And a Spirit Root Fruit? Like you can want one and just have it? I have my own spirit root. I do not want it."
I tipped my chin up, all pride. I was not going.
Qin Ruoyi was silent for a moment, then spoke.
"Your spirit root is about to shatter."
I jolted. "How would I not know that?"
If a spirit root shattered, you could not gather qi. That would make me no different from a mortal. Anyone could cut me down.
Qin Ruoyi pressed her lips together and said nothing.
I guessed it. My hand shook as I pointed at her. "You damn... you already made a dark move on me?!"
"You kept coming after me. I did not know what you wanted... so..." Qin Ruoyi's lashes trembled. The explanation came out stiff.

I was so furious I wanted to die. I shouted.
"I am not going!"
Qin Ruoyi did not force me. She left in silence.
I stared at her back, hating her, wishing someone in the secret realm would crack her spirit root too.
Then I accidentally caught the subtitles racing by.

I stayed silent for a few breaths.
"Hmph. Not my damn business. I do not owe her. Whoever goes is a dog," I muttered, my mind elsewhere, and went back into the cave.
