Chapter 44
Chapter Forty-Four
Bella
We’d been home from St. Lucia for twenty-four hours and already had our first doctor’s appointment to confirm the pregnancy.
Luckily, when I called from St. Lucia, they’d had a cancellation.
On the way home, we stopped at the grocery store to pick up what we needed for dinner tonight with William and Mary.
I’d FaceTimed my mom and Harry shortly after we’d found out.
My mom was ecstatic and cried. Simon wanted to tell his father in person.
I could tell he couldn’t wait, so I proposed cooking a nice dinner and having them over to the penthouse.
“It smells delicious in here.” Simon smiled, walking into the kitchen.
“I just had the best idea.” I grinned.
“What is that?” He hooked his arm around me.
“I’m going to shoot several shots of myself through the stages of my pregnancy for the new Montclair West Chelsea building. I’ll caption it: Your family starts here.”
“I love it.” He smiled and kissed my lips.
“I’m going to need one of the bedrooms turned into a nursery in one of the penthouses.”
“But then we’ll have to tear it all down. Nobody is going to buy a penthouse with a decorated nursery in it.”
I shrugged. “Then we tear it down. Do you want all one hundred and fifty units sold?” My brow raised.
“We’ll do the nursery,” he sighed.
The elevator dinged.
“They’re here!” I exclaimed.
“Try to act normal,” Simon said.
“You try to act normal.” I lightly slapped his arm.
“I am normal.”
“Debatable,” I smirked.
William and Mary stepped into the penthouse with a bottle of wine, a white bakery box, and a cat carrier with Raine in it.
“Welcome back.” Mary grinned. “We brought dessert.”
“And wine, and the cat,” William said, handing the bottle to Simon, setting Raine down, and then hugging him. “Welcome home, son.” He turned to me. “Welcome home, daughter.”
“How was St. Lucia?” Mary asked. “We want to hear all about it.”
“Amazing.” I looked at Simon and smiled. He smiled back and winked.
“What is going on?” William asked. “Why are you two looking at each other like that?”
“We just got married, Dad. We’re allowed to look at each other.”
“Not like you have a secret,” he said.
“Dinner’s ready.” I laughed and went into the kitchen.
Simon followed me carrying Raine. “I missed you so much.” He kissed her head, and I smiled.
“So, who cooked tonight?” William asked.
“Bella did,” Simon replied.
“Thank God.”
“Fuck off, old man.” Simon chuckled.
He grabbed three wine glasses and set them on the island.
“He’s gonna know,” I whispered. “Maybe do the wine after dinner.”
“They brought it to have with dinner,” Simon whispered.
Simon took the glasses and the bottle of wine over to the dining room table. William immediately noticed.
“Why are there only three glasses?” he asked.
“I’m not having any wine, William,” I said. “I don’t feel like it. I’d consumed more alcohol than I should have in St. Lucia.” I smiled.
He stared at Simon for a second and then looked at me.
“Are you—”
“No.” Simon pointed at him. “Don’t ruin this.”
“Ruin what?” Mary looked at us.
“Can we sit down and have dinner first?” Simon asked.
“You expect me to eat now?” William said.
“Yes, Dad. I do.”
Mary stared at us and whispered, “Oh, my God.”
William stood from his chair, walked over to me, and grabbed my hand.
“Bella, are you pregnant?”
I glanced at Simon, and he nodded.
“Yes. Surprise! Simon and I are having a baby.”
Immediately, tears filled William’s eyes.
“Oh, Dad,” Simon said.
“You’re serious? Because it’s not nice to trick an old man,” William said.
“We’re very serious, William. You’re going to be a grandpa.”
“Congratulations, sweetheart.” He hugged me.
“I’m sorry.” Mary wiped the tears from her eyes. “I’m so happy for both of you.” She hugged me.
