Chapter 20 You Killed Him
I stood at the city gate until dark. The guards knew me and said carefully, "Miss, curfew has started. You should go home."
"Sister, come home with me."
Fugeer's voice rose behind me. I turned woodenly, my face blank.
"You killed Zhang Ming."
"Didn't you?"
He only froze for an instant, but he did not look surprised.
I broke completely.
"Why, Fugeer, why!"
"Have you always hated Sister? Sister shouldn't have left you, but I truly had no choice. Without that medicine you would have died."
"Sister has felt guilty all these years, but Fugeer, Sister wanted happiness too. He was my man!"
"How could you kill him, how could you kill him?!"
My voice tore raw. I seized a sword from a guard and drove it at the man in front of me.
"My lord?!"
Fugeer had come alone. Only when the sword sank into his chest did the guards realize what had happened and scramble to restrain me.
But the blade went in only an inch. I could not push it deeper.
My head hung. My mouth kept calling Zhang Ming's name.
"Let her go."
Fugeer pulled me into his arms, his face full of tears.
"Sister, I was wrong."
"The one who should apologize to you is me."
