He turns to release the elevator, ending our conversation.
For now, I let him have it. Tripp must have tore him a new asshole when they found out how he handled me, because now, PC hovers like he’s my father sometimes.
When we get to our floor, he pulls me in for a hug, like that will assuage any disappointment he thinks I feel.
I lean into him, before we separate. He goes toward his office, where he’ll probably call his new girlfriend, and lament on how he had to be hard on me. She’s nice, even though she’s hella green, and she’ll make him feel better about warning me off.
I roll my eyes as I bounce down the hallway.
Peeking into the room Red’s in, I see he’s on Live, twisting his fingers and speaking to his loyal legion of fans.
Fans of what? I’m still not sure. He’s yet to put out a single, and most of his content on social media involves trends I’m not familiar with, but people love him.
There’s an empty room next to his that I slide into, keeping my back on the door as I dig my phone out my pocket and go to my Favorites. Like a lame, Turkey has always been in it, since I know if Auty doesn’t answer, he will.
On the third ring, he does, per usual. “Waddup Wyn? Auty said–”
“Yeah, yeah, she just left. I have some questions and you’re gonna answer them, or I will tell her about that one time you admitted you’d fuck.”
“You been holding that over my head for over a decade, and you know what? I don’t think that actually happened. I think you just been saying that to get me to do shit for you.”
He’s right. It didn’t happen. One night, Turkey got black out drunk, to the point where me and Fredo had to take care of him.
When he came to, I told him he admitted he wanted me for shits and giggles, and Fredo’s messy ass went along with it.
It’s gotten me a few perks whenever Auty’s being sensitive about me, so I keep it in my arsenal of blackmail.
“Do you wanna bet? Are you sure I don’t have audio proof of you slurring about how you wanted to paint my freckles with–”
“Okay, okay. Fucking evil ass lil’ girl. I would say I’on know how Rico deal with it, but he evil as fuck, too. What you wanna know?”
“Auty seemed… off. She’s been seeming off. What’s going on with her? And don’t tell me ‘nothing’ because I’m pretty sure these headaches I get are disturbances in the twin realm, so spill it.”
He’s quiet for a long moment. So long, I check to make sure he didn’t hang up on me.
Turkey’s pragmatic and analytical. I’m sure he’s weighing his options, whether he can tell me or risk Auty’s wrath.
One of her baby lesbian crushes wanted me instead and for whatever reason, Turkey and I have paid the price for some random girl being a slore for years.
Finally, a sigh turns into a groan, and he answers.
“Y’all fuck ass mama said some straight homophobic shit to her, and stopped fucking with her.
She been on the fritz since then. But I was thinking…
since you’re back. Maybe you can finagle some shit?
If it’s not too much. I know they be setting you off, too. Actually, nevermind. Forget it. I’ma–”
“No, no. I’ll figure something out and hit you with the details. But FYI, wherever I go, Rico goes.”
“Aw shit. That’s really yo nigga now, huh? Never would have thought.”
“Why is that?”
“‘Cause you don’t fuck with nobody, not foreal. I ain’t ever seen you take no nigga serious, not even Set. Same with Rico, actually. I mean, the more I think about it, the more it do really make sense, but I never would have thought about it. That nigga acted like he wanted to kill you for years.”
“Well, he murdering something all right,” I blurt, wagging my tongue like he can see me.
“Ay, calm all that shit down. I’m not tryna throw up my lunch. Is that all you wanted to know?”
“Yup. Your secret is safe for another day. Love ya!”
I hang up as he tells me never to leave my phone by him, leaving the empty room with new vigor.
Aaron and Amani Shaw. My dad isn’t nearly as bad as Mom, but he condones all the fuck shit she does, so he’s still equally as guilty.
I don’t want them having my number, and I’m not unblocking them.
So when I go back to the studio Red’s in, I grab his burner phone, and shoot Dad a text.
He texts me back immediately, telling me I can come Sunday, and some other shit I don’t care to read.
I tell him I’ll see him then, block his number and hand Red the phone, just as he shoves his main phone in my face.
“I got my lil’ Twin with me, as always. I keep telling y’all she hopped on the winning team, but y’all don’t believe me. Baby, come on to Daddy’s lap. Let’s give ‘em a show.”
“Boy,” I cackle, mushing the side of his face as I take the seat next to him. His comments are going crazy, asking if he’s being serious. I crack a smile at one I didn't think I would see at all.
@RicoSuave: Snow dont need no pup when she got a big dog
“The biggest,” I say, shaking my head, before ending Red’s Live.
