Chapter Fourteen #8

“YOU LOVE to step on toes, and we don’t own her.

The only reason she’s not going to fight me going is because I was a literal Hunter.

I’ve done the deeds plenty of times, and she knows I’ll survive it.

She likes to keep her personal-personal, and her private very private.

Know what I mean? Church and state, my friends.

State being a Hunter herself, and Church being the sacred nature of her job as a Fed. ”

Oh, they did.

Mikey O’ straddled both worlds too, and sometimes, it was overwhelming.

Most of the time, his family helped him through it.

“We’ll be grateful for your help, and hers. Tell the men we won’t let her get hurt,” Jagger stated. “They have our word.”

Oh, he knew that they’d protect her.

They were family.

Gene continued.

“Anyway, if the Snakes take care of their two targets, and we do ours, we should be good. Slater’s going to be the difficult one. We have our hacker working on some way to track him. Save any electronics or ways to track financials. If we can get a lock on where he is, the man’s ours.”

That worked for them. It was noted, and it would be handled how they wanted it done.

Gene looked at his watch.

He needed to wrap this up.

“Get here ASAP. It’s getting ugly,” he stated, and left the chat with nothing more being said.

Well, that was ominous.

Rogue was to the point as he spoke to the Snake he couldn’t control.

“Dakota is going to lose his goddamn mind. I’m not telling him. Not it!” he said.

The man’s wife was still on the screen, cuddling their son against her body.

All she did was shrug.

At first.

Then, Eve was to the point.

“Well, then, none of you pussies better say shit to him. It’s not like I’m taking our baby there,” she stated. “How’s he going to know what I’m doing? Is my vagina LoJacked?” she asked.

Then, she stared at them.

“You were supposed to say no.”

That made Maura laugh.

“How the hell do the men in this family know half the shit that we do? I’m beginning to think mine is,” she stated.

Jagger went there.

“It is.”

That made the Major just roll her eyes.

As for the baby part, they hoped the hell she wasn’t doing anything like that. With Eve, one never knew what she’d do. She was as crazy as the day was long.

Eve was curious.

“Dak’s safe in the UK, right?” she asked. “I haven’t heard from him tonight.”

The Major nodded.

“Yeah, he’s probably still asleep. I’m sure you’ll be the first one he calls. He’s on Poe and Gamble duty. While they’re honeymooning, he’s just keeping an eye on the situation in case they need a quick extrication.”

Rogue clued them in.

“They will be flying back via Ravencroft air. I have a cargo plane waiting for transport of merchandise back to the States.”

Maura looked over.

“A cargo plane?”

He smiled.

“I know. I could have gotten them a jet, but I like to be a dick. It’s funsies.”

Oh, well, tell them something they didn’t know about both parts of that.

“Well, then, what happens in the US, stays in the US,” Eve stated. “If someone snitches, I’m beating your ass in the gym when we go back to training.”

And no one doubted that.

Since they had work to do, Jinx winked and blew her husband a kiss.

“Love you, Rogue. See you when you get back to NOLA. I’ll bring you something sparkly from Corpus Christi.”

That told him all he needed to know.

As they clicked off, leaving the call, he sighed.

“She’s going to go burglar something, and I won’t be there to have fun. Bummer.”

Zayn shook his head.

“Do you hear yourself, Playboy? Your wife is going off to kill someone, and you’re worried about that?”

He shrugged.

“My wife can aim a gun and kill someone.”

He stopped laughing.

“Okay, good point.”

Zayn’s couldn’t.

Now that they had some information, it was time to find the rest. With what Gene had told them, it shouldn’t be too difficult.

Right?

Maura got them working.

“Rogue, see what you can find on a chemist and a bomb maker in that area from that list of four mercenaries that Remmy got us. Get MATE to help you get the information. We’re going to have it before we land. At least now we have something to work with,” Maura said, happily.

It meant starting the hunt when they got to the FBI building.

Zayn was curious.

“Uh, where are we meeting them?” he asked. “They didn’t say.”

Maura smiled at her husband.

“Go ahead, honey. I don’t like how they call you ‘little guy’. This one is all yours.”

Jagger was going to enjoy this.

BIG.

TIME.

“Oh, we’re meeting in the Deputy Director’s office in the FBI building. ALL OF US ARE.”

Zayn stared at him.

Then, he went there.

“The fuck we are.”

Maura laughed.

Yeah, that was the most Zayn response possible, and they were all amused by it.

Mr. Paranoia was about to be twitchy.

When all of them just smiled at him, he couldn’t believe it.

“Are you shitting me?” Zayn asked. “You want to walk into the FBI office, knowing we are LITERALLY on their most wanted list? I don’t want to see my face on the wall there! You’re definitely yanking my chain. There is no freaking way you’d walk in there. We’re all wanted fugitives!”

Maura laughed.

It was time to have some fun.

“Who the fuck is ‘we’?” she asked. “Jagger and I are technically dead, and we aren’t on the most wanted list, Zayn. If you are…”

MATE took that opportunity to appear to get the man going. She was right beside him, and she whispered in his ear.

“It’s a trap. You’re going to the chair, big boy. That hair is going to fry.”

And Zayn freaked out.

Why?

Because he couldn’t be sure if they were kidding, or if they were freaking serious.

It was clear his family was out of their damn minds.
