Chapter 15 Officer, We've Got A Job!
Happiness Road was living up to its name, a street bustling with life and local charm.
The sidewalks were lined with shops, and the air was filled with the tempting aroma of breakfast.
Kendall reached up and rubbed her stomach, then stepped into a breakfast place nearby.
"One curry noodle bowl, please," Kendall ordered, and then found a seat.
While waiting for her food, Kendall chatted with the system in her mind. "Do I have to catch all these criminals myself? Can't I just give the police the clues and let them handle it?"
There were so many wanted criminals on the system's board. Giving their information to the police would be much more efficient than catching them one by one.
> [That is not permitted, Host.]
The system replied.
> [The Host cannot expose the existence of the system, nor can you reveal the mission information the system provides you with. Every mission must be done by the Host in person.]
> [Everything in the world has its own order. Host, please don't think that having you do the missions alone is too slow. The truth is, without you, these criminals might get away with their crimes for the rest of their lives, or they might only be found much later.]
> [The Host is doing a very good thing.]
The system's voice even had a local accent.
The server brought her food. A starving Kendall unwrapped her disposable cutlery and began to eat. Halfway through her meal, her phone vibrated in her pocket. She answered, surprised to find it was the young police officer who had her fill out the report yesterday.
"Miss Kendall, it's me. Officer Mark. I'm the one who did your report yesterday."
"Hello. Is everything okay?" Kendall held her phone and stopped eating.
"Don't worry, it's not a big deal. I just wanted to ask you about something," Mark's voice sounded very young. "Have you looked at TikTok or Instagram today?"
Kendall's grip on her phone tightened slightly. "Not yet..."
'Oh, no! Are those haters still cursing at her a whole night later? Did even the police hear about it?'
While Kendall's thoughts raced, she heard Mark's voice on the phone. "I knew you hadn't. Here's the thing, the video of you saving that person at the Heavenly Heart Shopping Plaza yesterday was filmed by a passerby and posted online."
"A lot of netizens have seen the video, and they also know that you're sick."
"The netizens are very concerned about you, but the video was taken from too far away, and the quality is too blurry. They couldn't figure out who you were, so they came to us for help. A lot of people want to donate money to you and want you to get treated so you can recover quickly."
"Our official account was tagged so many times last night. We just had a meeting and decided that if you need it, we'll lead a donation drive for you and release your information for donations."
At this point, Mark paused and asked with concern, "Is your illness serious?"
Honestly, he admired Kendall's courage from the bottom of his heart. He really hoped that her saying she had cancer was just a lie to get the suspect to lower his guard.
But Mark had been in close contact with Kendall yesterday. Her frail body and the smell of disinfectant on her made it clear that she had been in the hospital for a long time.
Kendall hadn't expected the incident to have such a follow-up. But her doctor had already given her a final diagnosis, and money couldn't cure her. Besides, she now had a system to extend her life.
Kendall politely declined. "Thank you, Officer Mark! And please thank all the netizens for me. I don't need any donations. Please give that love to those who need it. I won't be replying online, but please help me pass on my gratitude when you respond to the netizens."
Mark was stunned. He hadn't expected Kendall to refuse so quickly. He was about to ask her why, but then he heard Kendall's voice on the phone suddenly ask, "Officer Mark, are you busy right now?"
Mark tone turned serious, "No, I'm not."
"Good. Please come to Happiness Road in the Old Business District right now."
Kendall's voice was full of excitement. "Officer Mark, we've got a job!"
