Chapter 16 Catching The Second Criminal
While Mark was still completely baffled, Kendall hung up the phone.
Her eyes were fixed on a man walking towards her from across the street. She had just happened to glance up, and what a coincidence!
The man looked exactly like the photo the system had given her. And just as Kendall saw him, the system's voice rang out in her mind.
> [Congratulations, Host, you have found the mission target, Cyrus. Cyrus, a main suspect in the 2003 home invasion and robbery case.]
> [You have 3 hours to capture him and bring him to justice. Reward: +10 days of life.]
Kendall's eyes deepened. The reward was bigger this time.
Of course, Kendall wasn't so naive to think that the system was suddenly feeling generous. She had played games before, and in games, the more difficult the mission, the better the rewards. She figured the system's missions were the same.
Understanding this, Kendall didn't show any fear. Instead, she was a little excited. She slowly put down her spoon and watched the man walk towards her.
Cyrus was forty-six years old. The robbery in 2003 had been very profitable for him, and he had since left his criminal life behind. He bought a house, a car, and a shop in Orapolis. He now owned an antique shop on Happiness Road and lived a comfortable life.
"Kai, one bowl of lamb noodles," Cyrus said as he walked into the breakfast shop, calling out to the busy owner.
The owner, who was clearly familiar with Cyrus, looked up and smiled. "Alright, brother. Haven't seen you in a few days."
"I was out of town for a bit," Cyrus said as he looked for an empty seat. It was the busiest time of day at the breakfast shop, and there were very few seats left.
By sheer coincidence, Cyrus sat down directly across from Kendall.
Seeing Kendall look up at him, Cyrus gave her a friendly smile.
Cyrus was over forty, but he was dressed very stylishly in a dark striped shirt and black suit pants. He was over six feet tall, and his clean attire gave him the air of a sophisticated man.
If it weren't for the good and evil value of '85' hovering over his head, even Kendall wouldn't have guessed that this man was a killer.
Kendall slowly ate her food while looking at her phone. She had her phone on the table and occasionally used her finger to scroll through it. The phone screen was bright and didn't have a privacy screen protector.
Cyrus glanced up and noticed that Kendall was looking at photos of antiques. She was clearly very interested in them, as she was looking at them the whole time she was eating breakfast.
Cyrus's gaze fell on the young woman across from him, and a strange look appeared in his eyes. "Young lady, are you interested in these things?"
Surprised by the sudden question, Kendall looked up. Her fair face looked a little dazed. She looked at Cyrus warily and put her phone away, nodding. "Yeah, I am."
It was clear that she didn't want to talk much.
"What a coincidence," Cyrus said gently. "I'm in this business. I even have an antique shop nearby. But after doing this for so many years, I've rarely seen someone your age who also likes antiques."
"An antique shop?" The young woman, who had been wary, was clearly interested after hearing those three words.
Perhaps because they had a common interest, her wariness disappeared a little. "My grandpa loves this stuff. His birthday is coming up soon, and I'm struggling with what to get him."
"Since he likes antiques, why don't you get him something he'd like? Make the old man happy."
Cyrus saw the excitement in Kendall's eyes and lowered his voice. "Are you interested? You can come to my shop to take a look. I just got a new batch of items, and I guarantee they're all genuine."
Kendall looked up and pretended to be naive. "You're not lying, right? Are they really all real?"
The way Cyrus looked at Kendall was like he was looking at a big fish about to bite the bait.
"Of course. Everything in my shop has a certificate of authenticity. I'm a man of my word. If it's fake, I'll pay you ten times the price."
Kendall smiled. "Alright, I'll come to your shop to take a look."
They were both almost done eating. Just as Kendall was about to pay with her phone, Cyrus reached out and put his hand in front of her phone, paying for her. He said breakfast was on him.
Kendall immediately looked embarrassed. Cyrus's smile deepened as he looked at her youthful face.
Cyrus took Kendall to his shop. His antique shop was located at the very end of Happiness Road.
When he opened the shop, Kendall noticed that right next to it was the Bliss Porcelain Store, the one that had commented on her TikTok video yesterday.
The location wasn't great, so it was no wonder business was so bad. Kendall glanced inside and saw a woman in her forties carefully wiping a porcelain pot through the glass door.
Cyrus opened the door and turned back to Kendall with a smile. "Young lady, come on in and see if there's anything you like."
"Alright," Kendall said happily, her voice sounding a little excited.
Cyrus was stunned and glanced at Kendall.
Kendall walked into the shop. The decor was old, but the shelves were full of all kinds of antique ornaments.
Kendall casually looked around, her curiosity piqued.
Cyrus followed behind her and asked, "How's it? See anything you like?"
Kendall acted like she was a novice. "There's too much. I can't look at all of it."
Cyrus wasn't surprised by her reaction. After all, Kendall looked to be only nineteen or twenty. It would be strange if she knew anything about antiques.
If he hadn't noticed that Kendall's demeanor was different from other people, and the watch on her wrist was a Richard Mille, a top-tier brand that even a rich person might not be able to buy!
She was clearly a wealthy young woman with money to spare!
A big, fat sheep waiting to be fleeced! Otherwise, Cyrus wouldn't have wasted his time on a youngster like Kendall.
"If you don't know what's good, I can recommend a few things that are suitable for giving to an old man as a birthday gift. You can just pick one that looks nice and buy it..."
Cyrus stood in front of Kendall, talking eloquently about the antiques. Kendall just watched him perform. Each time Cyrus finished an introduction, she would ask, "This one is not bad. How much is it?"
"Not expensive at al. I got it for 800,000, but if you want it, you can have it for 880,000. I would have sold it for 1.2 million to anyone else."
Kendall's face showed a hint of disgust. "It seems a little cheap."
He wasn't mad that she didn't like the item. Instead, his eyes lit up. "That's okay! I can introduce you to some others."
"This one is not bad either. How much is it?"
"Well, this one is a bit more expensive than the last one. I got it for 1.2 million..."
"This one is also okay. It has a unique look."
"It is from Inca Dynasty! Top-notch craftsmanship!"
"How much is it?"
"Not expensive. It's only about 3 million. If you want it, I can give you a discount."
After a series of introductions, Cyrus picked up a teacup and took a sip, asking with some anticipation, "How's it? Is there anything you want?"
Kendall nodded. "Yes."
Cyrus was thrilled and asked eagerly, "Which one? I can get it packaged for you right now."
Kendall turned around, raised her hand, and pointed, not at any of the antiques on the shelves, but at the cabinet against the far left wall.
"I want the one in that cabinet."
