Chapter 17 I Underestimated You
The moment Kendall finished her sentence, Cyrus's expression changed.
His antique shop had a lot of things, and a lot of cabinets. These cabinets were custom-made from expensive solid wood, and he had personally watched the workers install them piece by piece.
When the cabinets were delivered, they were all solid, but the one Kendall had pointed at was hollow. He had hollowed it out himself in secret, but on the surface, it looked no different from the others.
It's safe to say that besides himself, no one else knew the secret of that cabinet. And yet, this young woman was not afraid to say it out loud.
His expression became dangerous, and he looked at Kendall with a mix of suspicion and caution. "Are you sure you want what's in that cabinet?"
"Yes," Kendall nodded, seemingly oblivious to the change in Cyrus's expression.
"Since the items you have on display are all so expensive, the ones you've kept hidden in that cabinet for years must be even more valuable. I think they're perfect. I'll take them!"
"Fine. I'll get them for you." Cyrus agreed quickly. He pretended to walk over to the cabinet, but as he got closer to Kendall, he suddenly picked up a porcelain vase nearby and threw it at her head!
Kendall was prepared. She quickly dodged the attack.
"I underestimated you," Cyrus said, his expression turning gloomy. He held the porcelain vase tightly and asked, "Who exactly are you? How did you know about what's in that cabinet?"
Kendall took out the frying pan she had with her in her bag. "Uncle, it's better to turn yourself in than to be on the run for the rest of your life."
'She really did know what was in the cabinet!'
A killing intent instantly appeared in Cyrus's eyes. His expression turned vicious, and without another word, he charged at Kendall. Kendall held the frying pan tightly, not afraid of Cyrus at all.
Cyrus moved forward and reached out to grab Kendall, swinging the hand holding the porcelain vase at her. He was clearly not holding back. Kendall reached out first and grabbed his left wrist, twisting it hard, directly dislocating his hand.
Crack!
"Ah!" Cyrus cried out in pain.
As for the porcelain vase in his other hand, Kendall blocked it with her frying pan. The collision between the porcelain and the pan was like a rock hitting an egg. The porcelain immediately shattered.
Cyrus knew the consequences of letting Kendall leave. So, even though his left hand was dislocated, he didn't give up on attacking her.
He yelled as he grabbed things from the shelves and threw them at Kendall.
Kendall dodged left and right, occasionally using her frying pan to block the attacks. Everything that hit the pan was deflected, but Kendall also realized that her arm felt completely weightless, as if she wasn't being hit by anything.
Kendall seemed to have a gut feeling, and in a flash, dodged behind a shelf to avoid Cyrus's throws and then hit the cabinet she had pointed at with the frying pan. The solid wooden cabinet immediately had a large dent.
Kendall now fully understood. The pan was indeed a product of the system and was no ordinary item.
Seeing Kendall hiding behind the cabinet, Cyrus picked up everything he could and threw it at her.
The sounds of porcelain shattering filled the store. Kendall dodged while thinking of a strategy. She slowly moved towards the cabinet on the far left.
Cyrus seemed to have caught on to her plan. He found a broom and used it as a weapon, swinging it at Kendall.
"I'm going to kill you!" Cyrus roared, his eyes red with a killing frenzy. He swung the broom with all his might. Kendall didn't doubt that if he hit her, she would be either dead or crippled.
Fortunately, the antique shop wasn't very big, and the rows of cabinets provided plenty of cover. The broom was too long to be swung properly in the cramped space.
Kendall dodged nimbly, occasionally using her frying pan to block an attack.
"Oh my! What in the world is going on?!" A new voice suddenly came from outside the store. It seemed someone had been drawn in by the commotion.
After seeing the mess inside, she stood outside the door and yelled, "Help! Help! Something's happening here!"
Cyrus was startled and suddenly stopped his attack. This hesitation was all Kendall needed. She reached out, grabbed the broom, and yanked it out of his hands. She pulled so hard that Cyrus stumbled forward a few steps, and then he realized the broom was no longer in his hand.
Kendall took the broom and started hitting Cyrus with it. Cyrus wasn't as nimble as Kendall, and he was hit squarely on the body several times by the broom. While he was in pain, Kendall swung her frying pan at the suspicious cabinet.
Crack!
The wooden board was instantly dented by the pan, and the things that had been buried in it for years were revealed.
Seeing the black bag, Cyrus suddenly came to his senses.
Without another word, he turned and ran, not even bothering with Kendall. Kendall's eyes sharpened, and she threw the broom at his feet. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a police uniform and yelled, "Officer Mark, catch him! He's a fugitive!"
After Mark hung up the phone with Kendall, he rushed to Happiness Road. He walked from one end of the street to the other and still couldn't find Kendall. He was about to call her when he heard someone yell for help, so he ran over.
He had no idea what was going on, but Kendall had just told him to catch a criminal. Even though he was still confused, Mark's professional instincts kicked in the moment he heard the words 'catch a criminal'.
He looked at Cyrus. Cyrus saw Mark's righteous police uniform, and his heart skipped a beat.
He immediately turned and tried to run out the back door.
But there were too many shattered things on the ground, and Mark was quick.
Within three minutes, Cyrus was subdued and put in a pair of silver handcuffs.
After subduing Cyrus, Mark looked at Kendall. "What... is going on? And what did he do?"
Before Kendall could answer, Cyrus began to wail. "Officer! This is a misunderstanding! I didn't do anything! If you want to arrest someone, arrest her! Look at what she did to my shop!"
Mark looked at the mess on the ground, his face suddenly turning serious. "Miss Kendall, what happened?"
Kendall crouched in front of the cabinet she had broken with the frying pan. She used her hands to pry open the two-inch-thick wooden board, took out the black bag from inside, and tossed it to Mark.
"Here. Just look at this, and you'll know."
