Chapter 18 It's All A Coincidence

The black bag was lumpy, and when it hit the ground, it made a muffled sound.

Cyrus, who was subdued by Mark, stared at the black bag with fear in his eyes. He struggled and resisted with all his might, but it was useless against Mark's one-sided suppression.

Although Mark was young, he was a top graduate of the police academy, and subduing an ordinary person was not difficult for him.

Mark held Cyrus down with one hand and reached for the black bag with the other.

The bag, which had been sealed for many years, showed signs of decay.

It tore easily, revealing several shining golden bars inside.

Each bar had a unique stamp. When Mark saw the design on the stamps, his expression changed.

In a panic, Cyrus stammered, "This... this isn't my stuff. I don't know how it got here!"

Kendall calmly glanced at him and rebutted, "If it's not yours, why has it been in your shop for so many years? If it's not yours, why did you get so emotional just now? I only asked you about it, and you tried to kill me to silence me."

With those two questions, Cyrus was left speechless. He glared at Kendall, his eyes full of resentment.

At this moment, Cyrus understood everything. This young woman had deliberately appeared on Happiness Road to get his attention and get him caught!

Cyrus's face was grim. "Who exactly are you?!"

Kendall gave him a sweet, fearless smile. "Guess."

Cyrus was so angry he wanted to spit blood. In contrast, Kendall was in a great mood after hearing the system's reward notification in her mind.

As a qualified police officer, Mark knew the seriousness of the matter the moment he saw the golden bars.

While it wasn't strange for a rich family to have golden bars, these ones with custom stamps shouldn't be here. At least, in Mark's memory, they had only appeared once before, in a home invasion and robbery case over two decades ago.

The 2003 robbery case had shocked the entire country. The thieves had stolen sixteen golden bars with a private custom stamp, tens of thousands of dollars in cash, and some expensive jewellery. The only victim was an elderly woman who was paralysed at home. She died from excessive blood loss.

To recover the stolen goods, the victim's children posted pictures of them after they reported the crime, offering a 20,000-dollar reward for the culprit.

In 2003, 20,000 dollars was a huge amount of money!

The case was reported on by major newspapers and media outlets.

It was even on TV regularly, showing pictures of the golden bars with the private stamps.

It was a sensation. Countless people dreamed of finding the thief who had stolen the golden bars and jewellery because it was like finding a 20,000-dollar jackpot!

Back then, the average annual income in a small town was only around 10,000 dollars.

Unfortunately, even after more than two decades had passed, the culprit was still at large and hadn't been found.

The reason Mark knew so much about the case was because he had gone through all the unsolved cases after he joined the police force.

Mark pointed at the bag of golden bars and asked directly, "Are these the golden bars that were stolen in the 2003 home invasion and robbery case?"

Cyrus's heart sank. He knew he might get caught, but he didn't expect to be seen through so quickly. He looked away, not answering. His guilty reaction only made Mark more certain.

Mark continued, "If you tell us the truth now, we can show some leniency for your good attitude. If you continue to refuse to cooperate, the consequences when we do find out will be..."

Mark's voice was cold and professional. The police uniform he wore gave him even more authority.

Before he could finish, Cyrus couldn't help but confess. "Yes, it's me. I'm the one who stole them."

Mark immediately contacted his colleagues nearby. After hanging up, he looked at Kendall. "Miss Kendall, thank you for your righteous actions today. I'm afraid you'll have to come back to the police station with us again to give a statement."

She had just done this yesterday, so she was a pro!

Besides, since the system had said that she had to catch all the criminals herself, she figured she would be spending more time in police stations from now on.

Kendall nodded. "No problem."

Looking at her frail body and pale face, Mark wanted to say something, but he felt that it wasn't a good time since he was still subduing a criminal. Mark pursed his lips and remained silent.

Five minutes later, two police cars appeared on Happiness Road.

Three men in police uniforms walked in. They didn't seem surprised by the mess in the shop until they saw the bag of golden bars and the unique stamps on them.

One of the older officers asked in shock, "Golden bars with a three-colour pattern? !"

"Yes," Mark nodded. "I just questioned him, and he admitted that these are the golden bars that were stolen in 2003."

The older officer's expression turned serious. "Take them back for further examination!"

Mark helped Cyrus to his feet and took the opportunity to say, "Captain Blake, this criminal and the evidence weren't found by me. It's all thanks to Miss Kendall. When I arrived, she was already here, outsmarting the criminal."

Blake's eyes landed on Kendall. As the leader of the team that had rushed to the Heavenly Heart Shopping Plaza yesterday, he quickly recognized her.

"Is that you?"

Kendall smiled. "Coincidence. It's all a coincidence."
