Your 4 Millon Read Choice Part One (A baby)
"For the last time I'm not drinking that," Henry said and pushed the sloshing blue cup of brown liquid back toward me.
I glanced to the window that overlooked the garden. Emily was in the herb patch with Peter. They were both on the ground admiring a leafy green plant. Darkrose sat besides her them x with her nose in the plant, and I watched while Emily gently pushed the pink dragon away with her hand.
"Emily has on a long and loose flowing yellow dress, that was stained with dirt from her morning of gardening.
I turned to look back at Henry, "Ugh! Why are being so difficult!? You heard Emily, you need to drink this to get over your cold!" I said and shoved the blue clay cup back into his hand.
"I told you, that I'm not that sick. And I already drank this yesterday."
"And you felt better after drinking it."
"Yeah but it tasted like a dead dwarf, so I rather have a cough for the next couple of days, than drink it again."
"But the longer you have your cough the longer you will have to take off from your rehabilitation."
"I don't need any more rehabilitation," Henry said and shoved the cup back into my hands.
"Oh yes you do!" I replied and shoved it right back at him, but with a little too much force. The liquid went flying everywhere and it spilled all over my brown shirt.
"Ugh!" I exclaimed and stood up from the kitchen table. "Now I'm going to have to take a bath!"
"Cause not only does the "medicine" taste like a dead dwarf but it smells like one too?"
"No!" I said quickly, because I didn't want to admit that the brown liquid did smell awful.
"I just don't want to leave here dirty, me and Santana are going to try and lead the capital soldiers up the purple smoke mountains, and who knows if we will have time to sleep, let alone bathe for the next couple of days.
"No you will not try to navigate the purple smoke mountains, because that is a death sentence."
"Santana is going to navigate. And we have too, I can't have capital soldiers coming here with a baby on the way. We have to throw them off our trail."
"Really Santana, who is not from our planet is going to navigate a mountain terrain she's never been to before?l
"She's live here for three years, and two of those years I had to travel with her alone, without you, because you suck at getting better, because you won't do Emily's treatments!"
"I can't do something that is impossible to do, no matter how many of these horrible smelling potions I have to choke down! Violet, even you got to admit at some point I'm never going to be how I was, and I'm the one that's supposed to be overestimating my physical abilities!"
I felt tears spring to me eyes.
"Do you hear that?" Henry asked.
"Don't you dare change the subject, because you hate crying!"
No listen.
Then I heard it.
"Violet!? Henry!?" Peter's voice rang out.
Our eyes flew to the window where Peter was trying his best to haul a very pregnant Emily to her feet, while Darkrose attempted to help by nudging her back with his nose.
"Emily!" I shrieked and rushed towards the simple wooden door and flung it open.
I was by Emily's side the next moment, but by then, Peter had helped her to her feet.
"You need to calm down," she was saying to Peter and at the same time, trying to swat Darkrose away. "I'm telling you that plant was green-frog-fern not green-sucker-fern."
Peter was in full on panic mode. "You're contraction are too strong not to be real!"
Emily's eyes flew to me, they were wild with pain. "Violet tell Peter to go take another look at that fern, or gods help me I will find fairy thistle, and rub it on his face while he sleeps!"
I moved my eyes to Peter, "I mean I would just go back and have a second look at that fern, Emily is know to run did rub fairy thistle on people that make her really angry. She did it once to Tully Peridot, because she made fun of my hair at summer camp."
Peter signed, "She's already done it to me once, three weeks ago, because I told her that Rosebud was getting a little heavier from all those treats she made her and I wouldn't take it back. She yelled at me for fat shaming her dragon. But I wasn't saying Rosebud..."
"Peter! Get the fern!" Emily snapped.
"Right..."
Peter shifted Emily's weight onto me so I was keeping her upright instead of him. Free of his burden, he hurried across the garden, and knelt down where Emily had been just minutes ago .
"So what's the big deal about ferns? I'm not a doctor or anything but it seems like you shouldn't be arguing about a fern when you know...you're in labor."
"Oh no, I'm not in labor? I'm in false labor, I'm not due till another three weeks."
"So you never answered my question about what was the big deal with the fern?"
"Well green-frog-fern can cause false contractions in pregnant women, where as green-sucker-fern can induce labor."
"Why would you have any of those ferns growing in your garden!?" I demanded, and Darkrose growled softly behind us. She clearly didn't like the town I was taking with her distressed owner
"Well, I am pregnant and may of had to induce labor, if the baby wasn't coming. And the green-frog-fern is great for loosing up stiff muscles."
"But I know where all my ferns grow, and I wouldn't be silly enough to touch them without gloves.
...I'm just a little clumsy since I have a mini person in my stomach, and may have accidentally fallen a little bit into one.
.. But that's not where I planted the green-sucker-fern!
" she said and suddenly her face scrunched up and pain, and I felt something wet against my leg.
I looked down to see that Emily's yellow dress was soaked.
"Emily!" Petter called "You were right!
"No, I was wrong. I'm in labor. Get me inside NOW!"
"With the combined efforts of Darkrose, Peter, and I. We shuffled Emily towards the door. When we finally got her inside, we were greeted with the sight of Henry knocking things off the kitchen table with his cane, including the cup of brown liquid we was supposed to drink...
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY KITCHEN!" Emily shrieked.
Henry turned around, his blue eyes were wide with surprise. "I was clearing off the table for you-"
"I'm not having my baby on a table, I'm having my baby in a bed..AHHH!" Emily nearly hit the floor when what looked like another painful contraction rocked her body. And she would have, if me and Peter hasn't caught her in time.
"BED NOW!"
Between me and Peter, somehow we managed to haul Emily to the bed that her and Peter shared.
"I'll wait out here!" Henry called from the hallway.
Peter moved to her lower half. I'm going to take off the stuff that is wet okay?
"Okay," Emily whimpered. "Ow, holy cow this hurts like no other!"
Peter lifted up her dress and no sooner had he done this, his eyes went wide.
"Violet, go get my bag now!"
"Is everything okay!?" Emily asked and sat up up in bed. Her blonde hair, damp from sweat, clung to her face.
"You're fully dilated Emily, you're ready to push the baby is coming now!"
"WHAT? But she just went into labor! Doesn't labor like last for a while???" I asked and looked to Emily for an answer.
"Violet I don't have time to try to explain to the process of birth to you! Just get his bag NOW!" Emily screamed the last word, as another contraction hit her.
I scrambled out of the room and into the kitchen where Henry was cleaning up broken glass off the floor.
"Where is Peter's bag!?" I asked, my eyes flying around the room.
"It's in the closet," Henry replied. He didn't even glance up from his tasks to answer but I did not care.
I sprinted to the closet and snatched the bag from along coats and raced back towards the room. I could hear Emily's wails of pain coming from down the hall. I opened the latch on the bag, while I ran.
I stumbled back into the room and just in time to see Peter pulling a baby from between Emily's legs.
"It's a boy Emily! We have a son!" Peter cried, and brought the child to cradle against his chest.
"Why isn't he crying?" Emily replied weakly. "He should be crying."
"He hasn't had a chance to get air into his lungs, my love."
Peter turned to me, and without saying anything, I walked over to the bed and put the bag down on the quilt. Using the hand not holding his son, Peter reached inside and produced a eye dropper and stuck it into his mouth.
He gave the top a few squeezes. The room was filled with little cries.
Peter looked over at me once again. "Can you hold him while I cut the cord?"
I nodded and took Emily's and Peter's baby in my arms.
"Hi little guy!" I whispered while I looked down at the squirming, pink mass in my arms, while Peter made short work of the umbilical cord. "I'm your Aunt Violet! We are going to be good friends, just like me and your mom!
"So what are you going to name him?" Henry asked. I turned to see at some point, in the chaos, he has positioned himself in the doorway.
"Henry they might not even have a name! One minute ago, they didn't even have a baby! Give them a chance to get their bearings!"
"No it's okay!" Emily said from the bed smiling. She held her arms and peter produced a soft, green blanket. "We have a name already picked out!"
Peter took the baby out of my arms and wrapped him in a green blanket, before handing him to a beaming Emily.
She gazed down at her newborn son, before looking up at all of us in the room.
"Everyone one I would like you to meet Eli."
