CHAPTER 2 THE DECISION
The hospital corridor fell silent.
Not because there was nothing left to say.
But because the damage had already been done.
Aadhira stood motionless.
The tears had stopped.
The explanations had stopped.
The pleading had stopped.
She had finally understood something.
Nobody was asking if she had done it.
Nobody was asking whether she was innocent.
Instead, they kept asking the same question.
As if her guilt had already been decided.
As if seventeen years of love, trust, and memories meant nothing against a few messages and videos.
That realization hurt more than every accusation thrown at her.
Yet despite everything, Aadhira couldn't bring herself to hate them.
Because she knew them.
She knew the people standing before her.
They loved her.
Or at least they had.
The problem was that the evidence was too convincing.
Too perfect.
The messages came from her number.
The videos showed someone who looked exactly like her.
And the people presenting that evidence were Manoj Ahuja and Kavya Ahuja.
Not strangers.
Not enemies.
Family.
At least that's what everyone believed.
For years, Manoj had been the Devrajs' most trusted business partner.
Their closest friend.
The man who had stood beside the family through every success and every hardship.
And Kavya had grown up alongside Aadhira and Vedha.
She was practically family.
Why would anyone suspect them?
How could anyone suspect them?
Nobody realized that loyalty could be the perfect disguise for betrayal.
The Devraj family eventually returned home.
Not because they had forgotten Vedha.
Not because they had accepted what happened.
But because a decision had to be made.
A decision that would change all their lives forever.
The atmosphere inside Devraj Mansion was suffocating.
Silence filled every corner.
Nobody knew what to say.
Nobody wanted to speak.
The cheerful mansion that was once filled with laughter now felt like a graveyard.
Aadhira sat quietly.
Her eyes remained fixed on the floor.
For the first time in her life, she wasn't arguing.
Wasn't smiling.
Wasn't talking.
And somehow that scared her family more than her tears ever could.
Harshvardhan Devraj finally broke the silence.
His voice sounded older than usual.
"We have made our decision."
Aadhira slowly lifted her head.
For a brief moment, hope flickered inside her chest.
Maybe they had realized the truth.
Maybe someone finally believed her.
But that hope died the moment her grandfather spoke again.
"You will be sent to London."
Aadhira froze.
"What?"
The room remained silent.
"You will continue your studies there until Vedha recovers."
The words struck her harder than the slap earlier.
Sent away?
No.
Not sent away.
Banished.
Discarded.
Removed.
As though she was a stain they wanted to erase.
"Nana..."
Her voice trembled.
"You are sending me away?"
Harshvardhan closed his eyes briefly.
The pain in his heart was visible.
But so was his disappointment.
"We need time."
Aadhira turned desperately toward the others.
"Dad..."
Rajeev looked away.
The sight shattered her.
Her father had always been her safe place.
The one person who never failed her.
Until today.
"Please," she whispered.
"I didn't do anything."
Rajeev clenched his fists.
A part of him wanted to believe her.
A part of him desperately wanted his little girl to be innocent.
But every time he looked at Aadhira...
He saw Vedha lying unconscious in the ICU.
Covered in blood.
Fighting for her life.
And his heart hardened once again.
"If you're innocent," he said quietly, "then I pray the truth comes out one day."
The words weren't comforting.
Because they meant he didn't believe her either.
Meera began crying.
Her daughter was standing right in front of her.
Broken.
Alone.
And yet she couldn't find the courage to defend her.
Not when Vedha was fighting for her life.
Not when all the evidence pointed toward Aadhira.
Not when her heart was torn between two children she loved.
"I never wanted this," Meera whispered.
Aadhira felt her chest tighten.
Neither did I.
One by one, she looked around the room.
At her grandparents.
Her parents.
Her uncle.
Her aunt.
Her cousins.
The people she loved most.
The people she trusted most.
And none of them stopped her from leaving.
Not one.
At that moment, Aadhira understood something.
The decision had already been made.
No amount of crying would change it.
No amount of begging would save her.
Slowly, she wiped away her tears.
Her expression became blank.
Empty.
The family mistook her silence for acceptance.
But in reality...
Something inside Aadhira Devraj had broken forever.
And when she finally left Devraj Mansion for London...
Nobody realized they weren't just sending away their daughter.
They were sending away the heart of their family.
And one day...
They would regret it.
