Chapter 6 The Alliance
The room remained silent after Aadhira spoke.
"Okay."
"I'll marry him."
Nobody expected the answer to come so easily.
Not because they thought she would refuse.
But because they expected questions.
Explanations.
Conditions.
Something.
Instead, she had simply agreed.
As though the decision carried no importance.
As though her future was merely another item on a checklist.
Harshvardhan studied her carefully.
The Rathore family had already been informed.
The alliance had already been discussed.
Everyone had been waiting for only one thing.
Aadhira's answer.
And now they had it.
Yet somehow, her acceptance didn't bring relief.
It brought unease.
Because she looked far too calm.
Far too detached.
Far too indifferent.
The family gradually began leaving the living room.
Conversations resumed in hushed voices.
Everyone seemed to have something to discuss.
Everyone except Aadhira.
Without another word, she quietly walked upstairs.
Her footsteps disappeared into the silence of the mansion.
Behind her, the family remained.
Watching.
Thinking.
Wondering.
Rajesh lowered his gaze.
A strange heaviness settled inside his chest.
His daughter had agreed to marry a man she had never met.
And she hadn't even looked at him while doing it.
Not once.
For the first time, he wondered whether seven years had created a distance that could never be repaired.
Meera sat quietly beside him.
Her eyes remained fixed on the staircase.
She should have felt relieved.
The alliance was secured.
Aadhira would have a future.
Yet something felt wrong.
Because her daughter hadn't looked happy.
Or upset.
Or nervous.
She had looked...
Nothing.
And somehow that frightened Meera more than anger ever could.
Across the room, Nitya exchanged a glance with Meher.
Neither woman spoke.
But both were thinking the same thing.
The woman they had heard about for years didn't match the woman they had met.
Not even close.
That evening.
Harshvardhan made a phone call.
Rathore Mansion.
Rajveer Rathore answered almost immediately.
The two patriarchs exchanged formal greetings before Harshvardhan got straight to the point.
"Aadhira has accepted."
Silence followed.
Then-
"I see."
Rajveer's voice remained calm.
"The alliance will proceed."
A few more formalities were discussed.
The wedding date remained unchanged.
Three weeks.
After that, the call ended.
The matter was officially settled.
Rathore Mansion
Later that night, the Rathore family gathered in the main sitting room.
The atmosphere was serious but not tense.
Everyone already knew about the change in the alliance.
The Devrajs had informed them before speaking to Aadhira.
The only uncertainty had been whether she would agree.
Now they had their answer.
She had.
Without hesitation.
Without conditions.
Without questions.
And that was exactly what nobody understood.
Rajveer sat at the head of the room.
Beside him sat Savitri.
Mahendra and Sunita occupied the sofa opposite them.
Vikram and Nandini sat nearby.
The younger generation filled the remaining seats.
For several moments, nobody spoke.
Finally, Riya broke the silence.
"So she agreed."
Rajveer nodded.
"Yes."
Riya frowned.
"That easily?"
"Apparently."
The room grew thoughtful.
Because that wasn't the reaction anyone expected.
Mahendra leaned back.
"The bride changes at the last moment and she simply agrees?"
Vikram nodded slowly.
"Strange."
Very strange.
Even if someone accepted the alliance, most people would have questions.
At the very least, they would want time to think.
Yet according to Harshvardhan, Aadhira had simply accepted.
No discussion.
No negotiation.
Nothing.
Sunita folded her hands neatly in her lap.
"I still don't understand why Vedha stepped away."
Neither did anyone else.
The Devrajs hadn't provided details.
And the Rathores hadn't pressed for them.
It wasn't their place.
At least not yet.
Aditya finally spoke.
"Whatever the reason, the alliance remains beneficial for both families."
The statement was practical.
Neutral.
Exactly what everyone expected from him.
Rajveer nodded in agreement.
Business-wise, nothing had changed.
The Devraj and Rathore families would still be connected.
Riya wasn't convinced.
"I've heard enough stories about Aadhira Devraj to know she isn't exactly ideal."
The room fell quiet.
Nobody openly disagreed.
The rumors surrounding Aadhira were well known.
Too well known.
For a moment, nobody spoke.
Then a younger voice broke the silence.
"But nobody actually knows what happened."
Everyone turned toward Vivaan.
The sixteen-year-old looked slightly uncomfortable under the sudden attention.
Still, he continued.
"I'm just saying..."
He shrugged.
"Everyone talks about her like she's guilty."
"Maybe she is," Riya replied.
"Maybe," Vivaan admitted.
"But how do we know?"
Nobody answered immediately.
Vivaan looked around the room.
"I mean... has anyone here actually spoken to her?"
Silence.
Because the answer was obvious.
No.
None of them had.
Everything they knew came from stories.
Rumors.
Business gossip.
Second-hand opinions.
Riya rolled her eyes.
"You're too innocent."
Vivaan smiled sheepishly.
"Maybe."
The room chuckled softly.
Even Rajveer's expression eased slightly.
Vivaan had always been like this.
Quick to see the good in people.
Sometimes too quick.
Savitri watched the discussion quietly.
Unlike the others, she said very little.
Years had taught her one thing.
Truth had a habit of revealing itself eventually.
Until then, assumptions remained assumptions.
Eventually, Rajveer ended the discussion.
"The alliance will proceed."
Simple.
Final.
No one argued.
The decision had already been made.
And regardless of personal opinions, the matter was settled.
Soon, Aadhira Devraj would become connected to the Rathore family.
Whether they liked it or not.
Meanwhile.
Devraj Mansion.
Moonlight spilled across Aadhira's balcony.
The night air was cool.
Quiet.
Peaceful.
Aadhira stood alone, looking out over the city lights.
Lost in thought.
Her phone vibrated.
One message.
Unknown Number.
Her gaze lowered to the screen.
A single sentence appeared.
Her expression didn't change.
Not even slightly.
The screen went dark.
The phone slipped back into her pocket.
And Aadhira returned her attention to the night sky.
Calm.
Silent.
Unreadable.
Because while two powerful families were busy preparing for a wedding...
Aadhira was preparing for something entirely different.
And very soon-
The truth buried seven years ago would begin to surface.
