Lennon has spent years trying to be the daughter her Palestinian Canadian father demands, even as her older sister falls short of those same rules.

She starts high school nervous and hopeful, with her sister about to be a senior, until that sister announces a pregnancy that devastates their parents.

Autistic Lennon is driven further into the "good girl" part she has always played, then a chance encounter with John, a white boy in the grade above, leaves her with a crush they would never accept.

For four years the two of them come together and split apart while she works through shame and wanting, compliance and revolt.

A relationship with a different boy later challenges what family and happiness mean to her, and a way forward takes shape even if it could cost her everyone she loves.
