Chapter Twenty-Nine The Shape of Secrets #2

Her hands reached for the ties at his hips, tearing and ripping like an animal in heat. Nox followed her soon after, She raised her hips for him to pull her cotton pants free, while he kicked his off.

Clothes gone. Time lost meaning. He moved with her like he knew her soul first, like the body only followed what the heart already claimed.

She guided his face back up to hers, threading her fingers through his hair.

Their mouths met again, slower, deeper, until the world fell away completely.

Sand and stone, blood and memory—none of it mattered.

There was only the heat between them. The pulse.

The rhythm of something ancient and aching.

Adan got a glimpse of his cock, long and proud as he palmed it in his hand. She bit her lip at the sight of it-- perfect and pleasing. She grinned with feral delight.

His tip already moist with a bead of pre-cum and her thighs soaked, she knew he would be met with zero resistance.

His eyes locked on hers, one hand by her head, and the other on his cock, he lined up their bodies.

Adan arched her back and moaned loudly as he slowly entered her. They were both panting once he was fully seated inside of her. They connected with a perfect stretch and fit that had Nox groaning.

In that raw, quiet moment, neither of them spoke--it wasn't desperation—it was home.

Nox started to moved inside her with reverence, as if every thrust was an apology for the pain she'd endured, every touch a promise that she would never be alone again.

He was hers. And she was his.

And in the mingling of their breaths and bodies, that truth felt louder than any battle cry.

Nox's hand curled protectively around the back of Adan's head, cradling her like she was something fragile. His thumb brushed the sweat-damp curls at her temple, lingering there like he couldn't bear to stop touching her.

His thumb lingered, a slow stroke that said more than words ever could. Beneath him, Adan arched into his every movement, her breath catching in rhythm with his. There was nothing hurried about the way their bodies moved—only the deep, aching hunger that came from waiting too long to be whole.

Nox's lips found the corner of her mouth, her jaw, her throat—tracing a reverent path like he was memorizing her all over again. Every kiss was a vow. Every touch, a promise carved into skin and soul-- deeper than any brand.

Adan's fingers curled against his back, clutching him closer, needing the press of his weight, the strength of his presence. He moved with a kind of devotion that melted everything else away—no pain, no walls, no past. Just this quiet, burning truth between them.

Her legs wrapped around his hips, drawing him deeper into the place where words failed and only feeling remained. Their bodies spoke in gasps and sighs, in the hush of skin meeting skin.

She felt his presence in her head again, calming and all consuming. The litany of 'stay, stay, stay' echoed inside of her, filling her with his voice.

Time lost all shape. There was only the press of his forehead against hers, the shake in his breath as he whispered her name like a prayer, and the quiet tremble in her voice when she answered back, "I'm yours."

And he was hers—utterly, fiercely, without end.

Adan turned her face into the crook of his neck, lips, and teeth brushing the skin there in the barest kiss.

Nox's arms tightened around her as he quickened his pace, pummelling into her, panting her name in her ear. His words vibrated against her skin, seeping into her warmth. She could feel his heartbeat, a steady thrum above her.

He kissed her again—not with hunger this time, but with depth. Like every part of him was tethered to her.

His reached down between then, and his thumb pressed down again in perfect execution.

Adan's body went tight and taut like a bow, pleasure racked her raw as she screamed again.

She slammed her eyes closed, stars burst behind her lids.

She felt the press of Nox's forehead against hers, and the unmissable fullness of him following her.

The feral grunt of release muffled in the curve of her neck, his arms tight around her.

For a long while, neither of them moved. He stayed buried in her, his mouth leaving slow, languid kisses on her neck. His hand stroking the line of her ribs, the dip of her waist, every part of her like he needed to remind himself she was real.

Still here.

She was boneless and perfectly sated beneath him. She didn't care that she had sand in places that no one should have sand.

They stayed tangled like that, chest to chest, breathe to breathe. The world around them could have crumbled into ash and neither would have moved.

His fingers delicately traced across her forehead, tucking a strand of curls behind her ear. "I kept thinking..." He started, his voice hoarse and quiet. "What if they had killed you before I got to you? What if I never saw you again?"

Adan shook her head, burying her face in his neck.

"Don't," she rasped. "Don't say that." He turned, pulling out, and Adan groaned at the loss of him.

He pulled her into his chest, resting her head in the crook of his shoulder, her arm splayed out over his chest.

Her voice trembled, "It was real for me too--the fear of never seeing you again. Never having this chance."

His arms tightened around her--strong and unyielding. "I dreamt of you every night," he murmured, lips brushing against her hair. "Not the kind of dreams that come easy, but the ones that tear at you. You were always out of reach. Always slipping through my fingers."

Adan pressed a kiss to his chest, over the steady rhythm of his heart. "I'm here."

His thumb moved in slow circles over the curve of her shoulder, grounding her, grounding himself as he kissed her hair again.

They didn't speak again for a long while. They didn't need to.

In the deep quiet of the cell, with the fallen guards around them, their breaths synced again—her body curled against his, moulded by the shared fire between them.

As Adan's heart stilled and her skin cooled, her head began to catch up. Before she could voice her questions, Nox sighed into her hair.

"We need to talk."

If she had the strength, she would sit up, she only snuggled in closer to his warmth. The pull of exhaustion dragging her down--she hadn't slept well since the cabin.

She felt his chest rise and fall beneath her, his muscles shifting as he pulled her a little closer, a protective instinct even in this fragile moment. The stillness between them was delicate, but it was far from peaceful.

Her cheek grazing against the rough fabric of his shirt as she pulled back just enough to meet his gaze.

His green eyes, usually fierce and unwavering, were clouded now—haunted, almost.

The tension in his shoulders gave away the weight he carried, and for a fleeting moment, she felt his distance even when his arms still held her close.

"Does it have something to do with your voice in my head?" she asked softly, her voice still heavy with sleep, the thick exhaustion pressing against her.

It had happened again moments ago; 'stay, stay, stay.'

And at the princes birthday, before they were separated.

'Get up, Inara.'

'Not here. Not now. Never.'

'Make them choke on the ashes.'

His words returned to the front of her mind,

Nox's eyes softened, but the tension in his body didn't fade. He nodded, as if accepting her unspoken understanding, but there was something lingering in his gaze.

He exhaled slowly, his breath warm against her skin as he rubbed a hand gently up and down her back, as if trying to soothe both of them. "The power was gifted to me from my father's line." he said quietly, the guilt in his voice almost imperceptible, but there. "I should have told you sooner."
