Chapter 17 His Final Plea

I shook my head.

"I used to think you were a good man. Now I know you're a scumbag. We were never the same kind.

Zhou Linchen, tomorrow I'm getting married. Leave. Don't cause more trouble."

I finally threw those words back at him.

Steady footsteps came from the door.

Xu Yanbai entered in a perfectly pressed suit.

He held a jewelry box.

He walked straight to me and shielded me behind him.

He looked calmly at Zhou Linchen.

"Mr. Zhou, tomorrow is my wedding with Xia. You're not welcome here today. Please leave."

Zhou Linchen stared at Xu Yanbai's hand on my shoulder.

Jealousy nearly spilled from his eyes.

He opened his mouth, but under Xu Yanbai's cold gaze, no words came.

In the end he could only stare at me, eyes full of unwillingness and regret.

Yet powerless.

"Li Xia, I won't give up on you."

He left those words and stumbled out.

The living room fell silent again.

Xu Yanbai turned, gently smoothed my furrowed brow.

He opened the jewelry box.

Inside lay a simple pearl necklace.

"Don't let irrelevant people ruin your mood."

He picked it up and fastened it around my neck.

"Tomorrow, you have to be the happiest bride."

I touched the pearls at my throat.

No one would snatch my necklace again.

I looked at Xu Yanbai.

My eyes filled with smiles.

Yes. The past was gone.

Tomorrow was my fresh start.
