CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN #2
He dipped me, then grinned and looked down at me while he held me there for a moment.
“My mother made me take dance for ten years when I was growing up,” he explained, as he pulled me back to him in one fluid motion.
“She told me I’d thank her one day because all the beautiful women would want to dance with me. ”
I grinned. “And has that been the case?”
He winked at me, the smile that played over his lips a bit devilish. “You tell me, beautiful.”
He was fun, and I made a decision. I was not going to let Scott’s degrading comments take away the fun and beauty of this night. Instead, I’d have fun with Keller, leave Scott to his bartender if that’s who he wanted, and get a ride home from one of my friends.
Later, I looked around for Scott. He was leaning on the back wall and drinking whiskey. He had a dark, broody look on his face. Normally it turned me on. But after hearing him call me stupid and boring? It was much less attractive.
Scott didn’t even try to hide the fact that he was watching my every move.
As far as I could tell, he didn’t try to talk to another person the rest of the night.
But every time I’d seen him, he had a fresh glass of whiskey in his hand.
I watched him surreptitiously and realized he never went to the blonde bartender’s bar. He always went to a different one.
“I think he’s trying to send a message to you,” Keller said softly after following my eyes to see who I was looking at.
“And what would that message be?” I asked, curious.
“He doesn’t want you to think he was serious about that bartender. As much as I’d like to use this to my benefit, I think Scott’s gone over you. He was just shooting the breeze with Larry and me.” He shrugged. “I guess he thought that’s what we’d like to hear.”
That tracked with Scott’s nerves around people he was trying to impress. But that didn’t make it hurt any less.
“Just out of curiosity,” I said, looking up into his bright blue eyes, “how would you have used Scott’s dumbassery to your benefit?”
He grinned and leaned in closer to whisper in my ear. “I’d do everything in my power to get you to divorce his ass and run away with me.”
A little shiver ran down my spine, and I was surprised to feel so attracted to him. Maybe it was him sticking up for me that had done it.
I couldn’t help messing with him. I leaned in, brushed a kiss by his ear, and whispered, “You do know I have five kids who’ll need a new daddy, right?”
He almost dropped me, he was so surprised. Then we both cracked up and continued to enjoy each other’s company.
Towards the end of the evening, I asked Keller to take me home. He gladly agreed and put his coat over my shoulders as we left the party.
“Wait up,” I heard a familiar voice call. Scott jogged up to us. “I’ve had too much to drink Blair. You’re going to have to drive.”
“Oh, that’s too bad.” I gave him a mock sympathetic look. “Keller’s taking me home. You’ll have to get an Uber.”
Scott’s face went crimson with anger. “The hell he is! Get your hands off my wife,” he said to Keller. Then he reached out and tried to physically take me from Keller, pulling me from his arms.
Keller reacted quickly, punching Scott, who fell in a holly bush full of stickers and yelped in pain.
I gasped and started to lend a hand to help my husband up.
Keller stopped me. “Don’t. He’s in the perfect place to see us well. If he can’t recognize a goddamn queen when he has one, he deserves to watch her get snapped up by someone who does.” He gave Scott a look, wrapped his arm around my shoulders, and directed me to his car.
It was a gorgeous old Jaguar that he’d fixed up in his spare time, I found out on our way home.
There wasn’t a moment of silence between us the whole way home from Halliwell, and I knew I’d made a new friend.
He helped me out of the car and led me up to my front door. He looked at me longingly, and the look in his eyes was almost enough to do me in.
“You have to stop looking at me like that.”
“Why?” his hand found my waist, his thumb rubbing just above my hipbone.
“Because,” I said as gently as possible, “I’ll end up doing something that would make me hate myself. Not because you’re not wonderful,” I said hurriedly. “Because you are. But I’m not the cheating type. I never have been, and I never will be.”
He smiled ruefully and kissed my cheek. “I just want you to know two things, Blair. One, if you ever decide to leave his ungrateful ass, you call me to let me know. I don’t care if you’re ninety. Call me and we’ll date at the old folks’ home.”
He caressed my cheek lightly. “Bye for now.” He turned and started to walk off.
“Wait,” I called after him. He turned and looked at me. “What was the second thing?”
“Oh.” He put his hands in his pockets and smiled at me.
It was a devastating smile, making me almost want to throw my marriage vows out the window and go home with this gorgeous man.
“I just wanted you to know that I’d be honored to be a father to your children, no matter how many you have.
You’re that kind of woman, Blair. The kind to make a man do anything just to get you to look his way. ”
My heart melted, and I watched him leave.
He met my eyes and held up a hand as he drove away.
I was tempted to blow him a kiss but settled on a smile instead.
I sighed as he disappeared from sight. I found myself wondering about reincarnation and whether we got a second chance at life.
If so, I thought my soul should look for Keller’s the next time around.
“He’s not wrong, you know.”
The gruff, deep voice made me jump. That’s when I saw Scott leaning against one of our big old oak trees. He’d clearly watched the whole thing. His tux tie was undone, he’d pushed his sleeves up on his forearms, and he looked ready to attack someone.
“No,” I agreed. “He’s not wrong. I should be with someone who will appreciate me.”
He started walking slowly to me. “I appreciate you, Blair. I’m just so fucking stupid sometimes.
” He walked up until he stood beside me at the door.
He towered over me, and I had to look up at him.
His hands went around my waist and pulled me flush against him.
“Don’t leave me for Keller. I might deserve it, but please give me another chance. ”
“I think I’ve done that before,” I reminded him.
He winced. “Yeah. You have. Too many times. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean any of that shit. I just really liked Keller and wanted to invite him to play golf or something. I thought I was being like one of the guys, you know? Like it was something he or Larry might say.”
“You thought wrong. Keller isn’t the type to ever bad-mouth a woman. Especially not one who happened to be his wife.”
Scott hung his head. “I just… never seem to get things right.”
“Even if you thought they were the type to talk about women like that, why would you choose me to criticize?”
“I don’t know,” he mumbled. “I’m really making Keller look great, huh?”
“He didn’t need you to screw up to make him look good.”
“I know. You’re right. I’m so damn sorry.”
He was standing too close to me. I could feel the heat coming off his body. I could smell that special mix of cologne and man that equaled my husband. I wanted to take a step back before my body begged me to forgive him just enough to have sex with him.
He seemed to sense I was going to do it, and pulled me even closer, his hands tightening their hold on my waist and squeezing.
“Did you… really want that bartender?”
“No. I just saw her when I was walking around and noticed her rack.”
I’d give him that. She was hard to miss for that exact reason. “But what about that comment about trolling for pussy? I hear you say things like that, and I start to question whether you slept with Scarlett.”
“I swear on everything we have that I never touched Scarlett. It’s just you, Blair.
Ever since I met you. I’ve never been able to get enough of you.
I know I don’t deserve you. I realize I’m not the greatest husband in the world.
But my God, you can’t believe anyone would fuck you better than I can. ”
I sucked in a breath as he angled himself against me. I could fill the long, hard line of him. His thick cock rigid against my stomach. “Scott,” I protested. “You’re not going to get rewarded after saying things like that about me.”
He pushed the door open and pulled me inside with him. “You don’t want to punish yourself, too, do you?” He kissed and sucked his way up my neck. “You have to know your pussy is the only one I want. The only one I need,” he murmured in my ear between kisses.
His kisses were drugging me until all I could see, hear, smell, or feel was him. All him. My breath was coming faster. “I thought of you when I passed the coat check room with Keller,” I confessed.
He got a dark grin on his face. “Did my girl want to play in there with me?”
“Yes.”
He kissed me, and I sucked his tongue. He moaned. “Be careful,” he warned in that delicious way that gave me a shudder.
“Or what?”
He pushed me back against the wall and put one of his big hands around my throat.
He gave it a gentle but firm squeeze. “I’ll fuck you so good you won’t be able to remember you ever met Keller.
” His other hand was suddenly curved over my mound, rubbing me through my skimpy, lacy underwear.
I wrapped my leg around his waist, thrilled I’d worn something with such a high cut slit. He had easy access.
I gasped as two of his thick, strong fingers thrust inside me, curving to find the spot that always made me scream. His hand tightened around my neck as he began fucking me in earnest with his fingers.
I moaned and let my head lean against the wall, my throat open to him. I was helpless against him. I could go back to being furious with him tomorrow. For tonight? I wanted as much of this as I could get.
