Chapter 74
I made it to the alleyways with no interruptions and bit back a small groan of annoyance when I realized that I wasn't prepared to train tonight because I was still in the clothes that I had been in this morning and later this afternoon while I talked with my brothers and sisters and then with my mother.
I sighed and rubbed the bridge of my nose while I pursed my lips in annoyance but continued my way down the alleyway and going toward the pub.
At least I can change there, and they will not mind, I thought and moved a hand across my face while I pursed my lips further in annoyance and tucked my head closer to my chest. I just hope that I do not run into the prince before then because I know that he is going to have questions about it. ..
Something moved in the shadows to my left as if to catch my attention, and I turned that way with my hand in my basket and on a sword but not my sword that I got because I was a dragon rider before I breathed a small sigh of relief when I saw that it was a wraith.
"Oh, thank the Great," I said, with a small sigh of relief.
My whole body relaxed just a tad and watched the wraith bow their head in greeting and apology for startling me.
"Are you ok?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I took my hand out of my basket. "What's wrong? Is everything ok?"
The wraith bowed further and gestured for me to them, and the hair on the back of my neck stood at attention while I grew tense and pressed my lips into a thin line.
"What is it?" I asked and grabbed my basket tighter in my hand before I took a step toward them. I bit back a small frown and furrowed my brows while I studied them. "What is wrong? Do you want me to follow you?"
The wraith nodded and gestured for me to follow them before they started to walk the way that they wanted me to go, and I did what I was told to do and started to follow them.
"Is there something here that doesn't belong, or at least someone?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I studied the wraith, and the wraith nodded in confirmation. I pressed my lips into a thin line, and I couldn't help but feel worried. "Who?"
The wraith shook their head, and I had this feeling that they weren't going to tell me and wanted to show me instead.
I pressed my lips into a thin line and slowly nodded before I flexed my fingers, becoming nervous, worried even, about what was going to happen and who was in here when they were not supposed to be here.
"Is it a friend that is in the alleyways?
" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "Or is it a foe?"
The wraith bowed, hesitating ever so slightly, and I had a feeling that they didn't know if I would count these people as a friend or a foe, which was why they had decided to take me to them.
I hesitated and licked my lips while I slowly nodded before a thought occurred to me, and my stomach became filled with dread and fear. "Is it the Witch-Master?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, and they shook their head.
I breathed a small sigh of relief and slowly nodded, pursing my lips in annoyance. "Is he close?"
The wraith hesitated and bowed, and I had a feeling that they did not know and would check for me after they took me to where I needed to go.
I bit back a tired sigh and shook my head while I pursed my lips in annoyance, rubbing the bridge of my nose. "No," I said before I cleared my throat and licked my lips. "If you can't contact anyone else that might be near him, then don't worry about it."
The wraith stopped in front of me, and I instantly stopped behind them, biting the inside of my lip to keep myself from cursing. The air around them grew darker, and I had a feeling that they were talking to others to see if there was anyone near the Witch-Masters.
They pulled the shadows that they had sent out to contact the others that were around them. They turned to look at me and bowed before they stood, and I had a feeling that they were wanting to see if they could set up a bond between us.
I bit the inside of my lip before I slowly nodded. "Ok," I said, biting back a tired sigh. "Go ahead and do it. However, make sure that you do it quickly because I need to go to the pub before the others make it there and to check on the "threat" you have told me about."
The wraith nodded and lifted a hand. They didn't say a word while they let out a black tendril from their body and connected it to my head, and I closed my eyes and tucked my head closer to my chest without saying a word.
An image of two cloaked men was walking quickly through the alleyways in the direction of the pub, and for some reason, I knew who they were.
Oh, for the love of the Great...
I knew that one of them was the prince and the other was his guard, and it was not just any guard but the Elven guard that the Niran had set up with him.
I held back an eye roll while I pressed my lips into a thin line, biting back an annoyed sigh because I had no idea why his Elven guard led him down the alleyway when it was dangerous going that way.
"Both of them are friends," I said through their mind while I bit the inside of my lip.
"If there is someone near them, have them keep an eye on them and make sure that they don't get stopped by others because I don't want someone to start a fight with them. "
The wraith agreed and nodded before they did what they were told to do, and they let the other wraiths in the area to keep an eye on the pair that had entered the alleyways when they weren't supposed to be there anyway.
"Are they who you are leading me to?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question, and the wraith nodded in confirmation.
"Ok, after you show me what I want to know, can you take me to them?
I need to make sure that they make it to the pub safely because I have no idea why they are here, to begin with. "
The wraith bowed before they stood taller, silently agreeing that they would lead me there and make sure that they stayed safe.
I breathed a small sigh of relief and slowly nodded, feeling grateful that they would do that for me. "What about the Witch-Masters?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "Is that what you wanted to show me at first?"
The wraith nodded and showed me an image of one of the Silan's leaving the kingdom walls with the other staying put in front of the pub, waiting expectantly for me and my new friend.
He wanted to see if there was something going on between me and the prince and wouldn't take no for an answer...
My cheeks turned red while my whole body became filled with dread when I saw that the controlled Silan was leaving the kingdom walls. "Is there a way to see if one of you can't follow him?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know what he is doing, and I t-"
The wraith shook their head, silently telling me that they couldn't follow him without something, and I had a feeling that it was the dagger that I carried in my possession.
I bit back a tired sigh and slowly nodded. "Ok," I said and pursed my lips in annoyance before I cleared my throat while I shifted on my feet. "Then make sure to let me know when he comes back onto the castle grounds, please."
The wraith agreed and nodded before they pulled the tendril away from my head, and I opened my eyes and stared at them with a small frown on my face. They bowed and stood while they waited for me to tell them something else.
"Thank you, my friend," I said and bowed my head before I cleared my throat and nodded toward the direction that the wraith was going in before they stopped to show me what was going on. "Then, I guess that means we should go ahead and find our guests before they get hurt."
The wraith nodded before they started in the direction again, and I breathed a small sigh of relief while my whole body started to relax before I started to follow them.
Oh thank the Great...
