Chapter 80

"Forgive me for intruding, but are you sure, Marini?" Lexus asked and bowed his head, and Caspian gave him a curious look before he looked at us because Lexus also spoke in the same language as we had. "Are you sure that you two are connected to each other?"

"Yes," I said and nodded in confirmation. "Why else would Jonah and the Elven King be ok with him knowing about everything that happens in the dark?" I raised an eyebrow in question while I glanced at him from the corner of my eye.

He shrugged and grimaced, pressing his lips into a thin line. "I am not sure," he admitted. "Maybe because His Highness is a friend of yours, and you told him about your dragon?" he gestured toward Shilan, and Shilan looked at him before he looked at me.

Shilan cocked his head and asked me something, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scowl because I had no idea what he asked me.

"I still can't understand you, Shilan," I said and rubbed his neck, and he nuzzled my side and huffed, annoyed. "I don't know why you are saying something as if I can understand you."

Shilan rolled his eyes and said something else, and I was grateful that I couldn't hear his comment because I knew that it would have been something that would have annoyed me.

He sighed and flicked his tail before he started to pick up his pace so that we could get to Arden and Jonah faster because he wanted to get to them and have them fix this so that we could understand each other once more.

I rolled my eyes but followed his lead and picked up my pace until I was going faster, and the others around me did the same thing and picked up their speed.

"Forgive my dragon," I said sarcastically in the common tongue so that we could all understand what I was saying.

"He wants to fix the bond between us just as much as I want to get it fixed. "

"It is fine, Marini," Caspian said and shook his head with a small chuckle in his voice. "We understand and do not mind that you both wanted to pick up your pace." He paused and cleared his throat while he studied my back. "Are you hoping that both of them know what has happened and how to fix it?"

"Yes," I said and nodded in confirmation. I moved a hand across Shilan's neck, and he nuzzled my arm and let out a small growly purr of happiness. "That is my hope. It shouldn't have been able to be removed like that, but it was."

Shilan looked at me and said something, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scowl, pressing my lips into a thin line. He huffed and said something else, and I couldn't help but press my lips into a thinner line, growing annoyed with the dragon.

"Really?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I studied him. "Why the heck are you still trying to talk to me when we both know that I can't understand you?"

He said something else and was being sarcastic with it, and I couldn't help but feel grateful that I didn't hear that comment.

He huffed and flicked his tail in annoyance, and I rolled my eyes and pursed my lips in annoyance, not knowing why he was annoyed with me when I didn't do this to us.

"Very funny, Shilan," I said with a small grumble in my voice. "Are you going to keep saying stuff that I can not hear until I am able to understand you again?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I glanced at him from the corner of my eye.

Shilan nodded and said something smug and sarcastic, which I was grateful that I couldn't hear, and I couldn't help but scowl and narrow my eyes at him.

"Very funny," I said coldly and nudged him, and he gave me a smug look before he looked forward and flicked his tail.

I licked my lips and grew hesitant before I turned to look at the group that were following us. "Do you think that we will be able to run the rest of the way, please?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I studied them because I knew that we were close to the group.

"Go ahead," Caspian said and slowly nodded. "I can feel your anxiety growing about this, too." He flashed me a small smirk and a wink, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scowl, even though my cheeks turned red.

"Very funny, Rupor," I said and turned to look away from him when my cheeks turned another shade of red.

I took a deep breath and released it with a small whoosh before I started to run the rest of the way to Jonah and Arden, and the group followed me without saying another word with Shilan still at my side.

Shilan made a loud growly sound to announce our arrival, earning a full belly laugh from one of the men that we were about to meet, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scowl.

"I know, Shilan," the man, Jonah, boomed, and I couldn't help but bite back an annoyed sigh while pursing my lips in annoyance. "I know that they are close by. I can hear them just as much as I can hear you."

Shilan said something sarcastic to the older dragon rider, and I, again, was grateful that I couldn't hear what he had to say.

He slowed down until he was walking toward them instead of running, and I slowed down with him while the group followed our leads and slowed down before they could run into us.

"Very funny, Shilan," I grumbled, and Shilan turned to look at me with a "what did I do" look on his face, which I ignored and continued toward the pair that I hoped knew how to fix the bond between us so that I could unfortunately hear my dragon once more.

Caspian moved closer to my side, making sure to steer clear of my dragon that was on my other side.

He looked at me before he looked forward, growing nervous, and I hoped that he didn't have any regrets coming here tonight.

"Who laughed and yelled?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper while he leaned closer to us. "Do you know them?"

I nodded in confirmation. "That would be Jonah," I said, keeping my voice the same level as his.

"He is the main person that everyone listens to, especially when they are at his pub.

His rules are the ones that everyone has to follow and trumps any other rules that may be in place.

" I rolled my eyes and scowled, pressing my lips into a thin line.

Casipan furrowed his brows and slowly nodded. "Is he a part of your tribe?" he asked. "Is that why everyone listens to him?"

I shook my head no. "He is unofficially a part of my tribe, but he is not a part of it. I think he is the last of his tribe, but he won't answer any of my questions about it or what he had done before he met my father and lived here."

"Have there been rumors about him?" he asked, and I nodded in confirmation. "And what has been said about him?"

"Stuff that she is not allowed to repeat and you do not need to know about, Rupor," the ?ren said before I could say a word.

He bowed his head in apology when I shot him an annoyed look before he looked at the prince that was in front of him.

"My suggestion is to keep your questions to yourself until you have been "accepted" to be a part of us, and even then, there are some things that you do not need to know; is that understood?

" He narrowed his eyes and scowled, silently intimidating the prince that I had sworn to protect and whose future was tied to my own.

Oh for the love of the Great, please give me the strength not to bash this Elf's head in for treating him like this when it was unneeded and unwarranted.

Please, because I have no idea what I would do if you didn't...
