Chapter 95
We stayed silent and looked each other in the eyes, following Arden's directions while Arden started to talk in a different language, something older than what Jonah could speak in and something that I didn't understand.
Caspian looked at me with a small frown on his face. He didn't say a word, but I could tell that he was wondering if I knew what language Arden was speaking, and I subtly shook my head no.
Magic filled the room around us, and Shilan shifted until he was a little bit further away from us as if to not get caught in whatever was happening.
The cloth around our wrists started to change color and emit this golden light that didn't happen while the Old Man did his thing with Caspian, especially since neither of us were touching the other when it happened.
The cloth that was around Caspian's hands turned gold and purple, the same colors as that had appeared when the Old Man touched his arm while he used some of his magic to see them, and the cloth that was around me turned back to gold, blue, and silver, with the gold meeting in the middle and intertwining with each other as if to show that we were bonded.
Arden stopped speaking in a different old language that I didn't know as soon as the colors appeared around us, and he slowly nodded as if he had expected something like that to happen while Caspian and I stared at the cloth and the light emitting from it.
"So it looks like gold is your indication that you two are supposed to be with each other," he said looking at the cloth with different colors on it.
"What about the other colors?" Caspian asked. "Does purple mean royalty?"
"It does," Arden said and nodded. He gestured toward my side of the cloth. "Hers is different. The blue symbolizes that she is part of the Hargen Tribe while the silver means that she is of magic."
"Of magic?" I asked, and Arden nodded in confirmation. I furrowed my brows and looked at Shilan before I looked at Arden again. "Does that mean I am a dragon rider or a way to show that I am a dragon rider?"
"No," Arden said and shook his head. "It looks like you do not have the color that symbolizes that you are a dragon rider anyway, which is odd, but I think that is because there is something different about you."
I couldn't help but huff and roll my eyes, pursing my lips in annoyance.
"I don't want to know what is different about me because all of this is making me go mad.
That is all I am hearing from people these days is how I am different and special, and all I know is that I am a different Dragon Rider that has a lot of stuff going on with me, and no one is giving me a straight answer as to what it is. "
"You will know in time," Mathran said with a tired sigh, holding back an eye roll. "I am at the same place as you because I have to wait and do some things as well as learning about new things." He gave his brother an annoyed look, and Arden shrugged.
"It is for your own safety that you only train her on the outskirts of the kingdom, Mathran," he said. "I am still annoyed that you had decided to meet her twice without my knowledge inside of the Pub."
"Which is in a safe space in itself," I said and looked at the cloth to see that the colors had dimmed and died down before I looked at Arden. "What language did you speak, and will I be able to learn it?"
"In some sense, yes," he said and nodded.
He grabbed the cloth that was around mine and Caspian's wrists before he stuffed it in a bag on his belt.
"However, in other sense, there is a chance that you will not be able to learn it, for only great and powerful people can learn it and do things others think is impossible. "
I rolled my eyes and scowled, pressing my lips into a thin line.
"Welcome to my life in a nut shell," I said tersely.
"Are we going to be training now, or are we still going to be talking?
" I asked, changing the subject. "Because I would like to get some training in while I am here because there is a chance that our training sessions are going to be cut short if I have to teach His Highness what to do about our customs as well as my brothers and sisters. "
"Not to mention that I am going to get bigger and bigger, and we have to find a safe place for us to train together," Shilan said and lifted his head a little to show that his neck had gotten a little longer over the day or so. "I can't wait to be big enough for Marini to ride me."
I sighed and walked over to my dragon after I let go of Caspian's hands.
"I can't wait for that either," I said and rubbed his forehead, earning a growly purr while he closed his eyes and nudged my arm.
"It just means that we will have to find a way to do it in secret, especially since I can't go out the normal way. "
"And unfortunately you can't go out the way that guards go out, too," Caspian said. "That would have been the only other way to go outside."
"There are other ways to get outside that even you do not know about," Jonah said and shrugged. "These ways have been made by those that had built the wall in hopes that the wall can be torn down again."
"But my father said that the wall keeps everyone safe," Caspian said and furrowed his brows. "I know that it keeps all the magical folk out, or at least there is an attempt to, but is it not safe for the magical folk that live here too?"
"No," I said and shook my head. "It is the dumbest thing that has ever been built and has put more pressure on the poor folk than the king has realized it. I don't think he even realizes it now with him being controlled."
"Do you think that the Elf told him to build it?" he asked and furrowed his brows closer together.
"I wouldn't be surprised," I said and shook my head. "It's a way to keep things inside if you want to change something." I shrugged. "Wraiths normally don't make their home in villages like the ones here do. They usually like to move through villages but mainly live in the woods."
"And they can't get out because of the guards and whatnot?"
"That and then something else trapped them here," I said. "I do not know what, and I do not know if I want to know, but I do know that something else trapped them here, and now, they are waiting for it to be released before they do something else."
And hopefully it doesn't have to deal with me...
