Chapter 34

I rolled my eyes, "Fine, it was wrong but she didn't do the right thing too. I just did it to put her in place."

I laughed. "I do, and I'm telling the truth, it's progress. Nothing much to note."

Derek used to be like her, young and clumsy. But I walked him through it, making the best version of himself, and this is him now.

I don't know if this pack has the capability to do the same, adapt the same and be the same. Derek was different, he wasn't afraid, he was dedicated and courageous, not like them.

They're spoiled. Like "spoiled brat" spoiled, they won't care about others if they were in danger as long as they themselves are safe. Selfish, is what they are. I've been here for at least a month now and I have seen no one selfless and willing to put others first, before theirs.

It's a trait that I've always been looking for in trainings.

Us humans, can only obtain some traits if we were to focus on it and be dedicated to obtaining it, some are already part of our hobby. But in one point, something always prevents us from getting what we want.

It's us, ourselves.

It's already inside us, yet we choose not to believe we have it by focusing on other things. Weapons. The world is in an illusion that everything is given in a silver platter.

We can walk distances and miles yet we choose not to and built things with wheels which can carry and move faster. We can climb ladders yet we choose to build something that climbs and carries itself up with just a press of a button.

We can socialize with each other, make friends in person yet we choose to hold the little box device that we made to keep our friends.

What next? Another planet to live on because we like to go and do adventures?

Humans are strange yet we are also the reason why we're still alive. Life is just full of complicated things.

A knock on my door snapped me out of my thoughts, looking over it. "Who is it?"

I was back in my room after trainings. I went straight to the training grounds after the talk with Derek and his supposed 'guidance'.

My hair on my body went up and I went rigid. His deep voice spoke through the door. "Uh, yeah. Sure." I cleared my throat.

He hummed and opened the door and stayed there. He looked me up and down then smirked, his eyes mischievous. "What?" I asked.

What was he doing?

I held my cheeks with both hands, screaming internally. My heart was beating so fast and my hands were sweating.

He's acting so strange, something's definitely up with him or something happened. Either way...

That man will be the death of me.

It was already night and dinner will be served soon. Van came in and began to speak about the upcoming ball for the King and Queen's son, the crowned prince.

Every pack is invited, including those who are participating in the so called game.

If I were to go and get close to them, can they help me find my parents? If so, then I'll take my chance even if it means draining my energy and sucking my soul.

Anything for my parents. This introvert self of mine can suck it up for one night to go out and socialize.

Shouldn't be that bad, people approaching you and talk to you. Raising their glasses to congratulate you on the game and hear compliments from here and there.

Yeah, sounds like hell.

I sighed, I couldn't escape this even if I wanted to. Sen would just come here and run her mouth more than Van, I think I had enough for this day.

I sighed and dismissed him using my hand, not wanting to utter another word. He nodded and left the room.

I sighed and fell on my bed, recalling the time when I went to the Alpha's office.

When I saw the real shade of her eyes, her atmosphere changed. Her eyes were dark, mysterious, as if it was not her who wears it. It's as if those eyes hold something close to a burden to the point its gaze are hateful.

When she was seen with black eyes, she looked normal, like any other human in the world. With violet eyes, it was like she became a different breed. But she still held the same strict and patient attitude with her.

It was just her eyes that changed color but it was as if she had turned into a completely different person.

So this is her.

She looks like her. Violet eyes, raven hair and a beautiful flawless face. Except, she's not her.

My lady is dead, a long time ago. I refuse to believe in something that isn't here anymore.

At first, I couldn't believe it. One moment, I was adoring her beauty, praising her and bonded with her. It was like I had everything with me and all will be well.

The night came and the moon rose, giving light to the darkness. I was having my dinner with my family and they were talking amongst themselves.

Someone barged on the door with an anxious and terrified face, delivering the message he holds.

I didn't know where I was going, I believed my legs would lead me to her, on their own.

I ran and ran, with sweat sticking to my skin. I didn't care about anything as I ran to her.

It felt forever when I finally saw their house. There were a lot of people on the sides, murmuring and some are even shedding tears.

My eyes darted to the area where they were focused on. Then there she was, lying on the cold and dirty ground. Her parents and siblings were crying beside her, looking down at her pale and lifeless body.

I fell to my knees, breathing shakily. I couldn't believe it, I want to turn back time.

'Please, let me turn back time!'

Tears formed in my eyes, clouding my vision. I looked at her face, examined every line and feature of it.

The last thing I remember from that night was how beautiful she looked as the moon shone on her.

I need to focus on what is in front of me instead of looking for something that is buried deep into the past.

I looked at her beautiful face. It is indeed torture for me to look at her entrancing eyes, they look so similar to whom I lost.

She looked away for a second and looked back. "What else is there to discuss apart from trainings, Alpha?"

She has captured my attention ever since I witnessed how clever she was to pass the first games. So I took the second game as an opportunity to get to know her.

I couldn't approach her on my own even if I wanted to, she might find it awkward for me to be so close to her when she has only met me once.

But now, it looks like she doesn't mind it even if we're in the same room. She use to flinch or move very uncomfortably whenever I'm around. That, I noticed.

I breathed in slightly, shocked by the change of her face. One moment she was confused, now curiosity took over. How can someone not fall for this woman?

She looks taken aback, her eyes wide as she held onto the armchair strongly. My eyebrows furrowed, confusion settling into my body.

Her eyes suddenly closed, her hand immediately holding her head. She groaned in pain as she held herself up.

Concerned, I stood up and walked to her. I asked her what was wrong as I crouched in front of her and held her face.

She let out a grunt and was still shaking. She couldn't utter a word and I didn't know what to do.

Tears fell from her eyes to her cheeks, falling down weakly, she sobbed as her eyes tightened shut.

She clutched her chest as if she felt something there.

Her eyes abruptly opened and looked at me in panic as she stood up and ran out of the room, leaving me on the ground, crouched down and dumbfounded.

What happened to her?

Katie should've explained what happened and what she saw but she panicked and ran out of the room as if she's running away from something so terrifying.

But recollecting the things that flashed into her head is indeed terrifying. She felt like she has lost her senses and her head was about to split into two.

She didn't know what to do as she clutched her head and those things played in her mind. She couldn't focus on anything except for those.

As the Alpha touched her face, it snapped her out of it. The things that played inside her, began to disappear as if nothing had happened.

When she opened my eyes, the Alpha looked at her worriedly, holding her.

With panic, she just did what came into mind and went straight to her room.

"My name is Ezekiel Titus Vaughn, you can call me Zeke if you want." He answered, smiling.

Katie's eyes widened, her heart thumping at the familiar words.

Ezekiel Titus Vaughn.

'Kiel!' Someone screamed inside her head, she clutched it as she began to feel a thousand needles prickling her.

Her eyes felt heavy as painful things played inside her head.

Blood, leaves, fire, the moon and the cold ground. They flashed through her, disappearing and reappearing one by one.

And then one scenario started to show.

She saw a little child, not moving on the ground. 'Her' breathing was weak as 'her' eyes fluttered close.

'She' was covered in cold blood as 'she' panted heavily. 'Her' blood tainted the leaves and the ground as it oozed out of 'her' wounds.

The moon shone bright at 'her' face, highlighting 'her' features, giving Katie the perfect view on what 'she' looks like.

'She' opened 'her' eyes looking at something far, and said something, whispered it to the wind as it took 'her' message with it to keep it safe.

'Her' eyes were a gorgeous shade of violet.

Katie clutched her sleeves as she witness 'her' do nothing to help herself. Katie couldn't do it herself, after all, she believes this is who they refer to when they mention 'her'.

And 'she', was all in the past, there could be nothing done to change 'her' fate.

She wondered what 'her' name was, or which family 'she' belonged to.

The cold wind blew by, minutes have passed and people started to gather around 'her'. The atmosphere became colder by the second.

There was a warrior who stood a few meters away from them, holding his chest with his hand. As he does, he kneeled and lowered his head.

He whispered lowly, "Rest in peace, My Queen."

He stood and ran directly towards a direction. Katie was unaware where he would go as he said his last goodbyes to the child.

'So she was royalty. What happened?' Katie thought.

She felt chilly as the child took 'her' final breath. Katie saw the life leave 'her' eyes and 'her' body went limp.

It was over. 'She' was gone.

The people around 'her' mourned, some cried more louder as they watch 'her' helplessly.

The warrior reached the pack house and wasted no time to reach the family to deliver his unfortunate message.

"Miss Abby is no longer with us." He panted heavily, drenched in sweat and his face covered in warm tears. He ran as fast as he could to get here.

The little boy stood and ran out, not caring if his parents called for his name desperately.

His attention was only focused on 'her'.

The boy, should be a little older than 'her', collapsed to his knees when he saw the body. Tears fell down to his cheeks as he cried for the lost.

'He must be the Alpha when he was a kid.' Katie's heart sank as she watched the scene unfold in front of her.

Her heart shattered witnessing everything that is happening.

He was there when 'she' was taken from this life, begged to turn back time. He weeped as he recalls the memories he has with 'her', the good and bad ones.

He cried more when he stepped closer to 'her', hugged her lifeless body that was once warm and felt home.

Now it was cold and it was nothing.

As if time froze, the moment lasted longer than anyone wanted it to. They mourned for 'her' death, they kneeled towards 'her' to pay respects.

It was their last kneel to their Queen.

Katie didn't notice it herself but as soon as she felt something wet, she touched her cheeks and came to realize that she was indeed crying.

She sobbed, the situation also affecting her.

Then, as if 'she' took the moon with her, the surrounding area became to gloom, darkness taking over.

Then it was gone.

Katie's eyes widened as she was back to the present, the trigger gone.

She left the room and said nothing else.

The ball commenced a day before the next games. Katie was visited once again by the seamstress to hand her her formal attire.

The seamstress colored it gold. This is to show Katie her generosity and compassion.

Generosity for wearing what the seamstress makes in luxury and taking care of it. Though the last dress was torn, she was happy the girl survived.

And compassion for the poor girl, having to go through everything without anyone beside her. There is someone beside her, although she is always alone in times of need.

The seamstress did not utter any words regarding the gown, except that she said she chose the color because black will be too common now that it was paraded perfectly last time.

Now gold will shine brighter.

The gown was floor length, cut off the shoulder with a low décolletage, exposed arms, and long bouffant styled skirt. Patterns of flowers covered the gown as so did the color gold.

It was captivating.

Katie shook her head and turned to the seamstress. "What happened to black? That was the color I wanted."

She has been making attires since the age of 10, not once did she slip or lose a costumer. This was the first time she had received a complaint.

The seamstress entered her car with emotions of anger, frustration and admiration.

She understood what Katie meant, she only thought of herself when making attires and ignores everything around her.

It was a habit she now hates.

The day of the ball came and as said, she wore the gown and stood out amongst others.

She was accompanied by Sen as Van was busy with paper works. After all, Van is a Beta and a Beta is nothing if they do nothing for their pack.

Katie wore heels of gold as well, matching her golden gown. As she entered the castle, she could only think of how beautiful and elegant it was.

They turned to a large double doors and Sen knocked on it, the guards who were watching the door heard the knock, opened it and let them in.

Once again, all attention was to her the moment she stepped foot on the stairs, walking all the way down to the bottom.

No eyes left her, it was as if she was a goddess descending from the heavens, people thought. Murmurs and laughter echoed across the room, everyone talking about her.

Katie ignored all of it, not giving a single care. She roamed her eyes around the room and spotted the warriors in their own places.

'It looks like they were assigned to their respective positions.' Katie thought as she walked to the table full of drinks.

Sen was beside her the whole time as she watched the warriors do their job.

So far so good, no one was being unprofessional or was missing their post. Everything was perfectly fine.

As she took a sip of her drink, loud horns were heard across the room, catching the attention of the people.
