Chapter 35
To say that I am pissed is an understatement.
I mean how could I be calm? First of all, I was damn late to the ball and second of all, the gown stands out.
So much for blending in.
This is so not cool. I was suppose to oversee, not party. I just wish I could explain to the seamstress why I hate this gown.
I didn't mean to hurt her feelings, it's just my emotions got the best of me. If Sen could call her back I would apologize.
Gosh Katie, you're such an asshole.
I took a sip of my drink and my tongue tasted the cold red liquid as it slid down my throat.
I smiled, it was delicious and fruity. Before I could take another sip, loud horns replaced the melody around the room.
A person dressed in formal attire stood at the top of the stairs, holding proper poise.
And in cue, the double doors behind him opened and the squeak of the door resounded in the room.
I almost dropped my drink when I saw them enter.
Two people entered with their heads held high, as the woman has her arm wrapped around the man, they smiled at us as they continued their walk.
They were wearing the finest clothes around everyone here. The woman has a very long gown, different kinds of pattern on the lower half as the upper half of it was sparkling.
It was gold and black. The patterns were of gold as the dress was full on black. It was perfect.
The man was wearing probably the most expensive thing I've ever seen since I've been here. I mean, I know what a tuxedo looks like but his is different.
He was wearing a white shirt and above it was a black coat paired with his black pants. His tie was also black as his shoes. His hair was brushed back giving him the perfect look for a prince.
Only he's the King.
I've heard from movies that a man should partner his tie with what color his lady's clothes will be. It is a gentleman move if you ask me.
As they glided down, everyone bowed and smiled at them. They were glowing as they looked around, giving each one a smile of royalty.
It was a sight to behold.
As they reached the final steps, only then did everyone start to socialize and approach them with drinks in their hands.
I took a sip of mine and observed. As I did, a question popped inside my head.
Why am I not shocked? Well, I would be if she says they're a thousand years old. But a hundred sure is something.
Most couples go for someone older than them or younger. "You should approach them, it would be a benefit if royalty takes a liking to you."
My eyebrows furrowed, "Why would I indulge myself with big people? It's only right for me to stay back and watch. Also, haven't I already told you that I'm here for security and not for socializing?" I said, looking at her.
Van has approached me more nicely and convinced me about them. But hearing Sen now, it feels so different, so wrong.
What does she mean by 'reject'? The King didn't even say anything or motioned me towards him! She probably used that as a sign to get me close.
What life.
I started to walk towards the King after a few seconds realizing that I was standing still in one place, not moving.
His stare didn't leave me, he just roamed his eyes in every corner of my body. I felt like he was judging me but his eyes were so soft.
When I reached him, I bowed while holding my gown with my right hand. "It's a pleasure, your Highness." Shit, I didn't know what to say, I'm not even from a system like this.
My eyes are violet but I am no royalty, I am a commoner. I was born in a common hospital, raised in a common city, lived in a common house with a common family and I have a common job.
Her eyes were wide as she stared at me, my eyes were focused on her as she desperately called Abby.
I wonder how she knows my nickname. Abby is a nickname for my 'Avery'.
I froze, not knowing how to respond to her. I didn't know her, she randomly called me, she knew my nickname, and she just hugged me.
What would I even do at this situation?
The King immediately pulled the Queen and held her back. I silently thanked him because her hug was getting too tight.
He's the King after all. "Stop making a scene and fix yourself, Caroline. We are at Alex's ball. Calm yourself."
The Queen was still staring at me with teary eyes, she had this look of pain and grief. I can see that she is going through hard times and I understand but, I need to distance myself if I remind her of the past.
I'm no doctor but if the past comes back to you, it's a really bad experience. Take it from me.
The Queen was in an emotional state and only her mate can calm her down. Me staying there will make her situation worse.
Damn with these mate things, humans could never.
I walked back to Sen and got myself another drink from the large bowl. "How'd it go?" She began as she held my hand, not able to resist the temptation of asking.
They keep mentioning my parents every time they want me to do something that is beneficial for them.
I pulled away my hand that she was holding as I glared at her with hatred. "Pull the same shit as Van and I'll leave you alone." I drank the last sip and turned around, heading towards a door across the hall.
They were staring, but nothing else. Just staring.
I'd fight them fair and square. Little shits deserve the burnt pie if they decided to cook with a broken oven.
I've had enough of them using my parents as a reason for me to do what they want. They know it triggers something in me because I've told them about why I'm here.
I trusted them because I thought they were friends, turns out they're using my parents to get to me. And they're using me to get to others.
I had a gut feeling but yet I ignored it and took shelter in their cold blooded arms when I felt so vulnerable.
To think Van was such genuine and a good person. What a facade.
I breathed in the air of the atmosphere as I walked out of the building, trying to calm myself down.
Two friends just crossed out of my list. I'm never talking to them again. If I could get another person to assist me, I could.
I can talk to the Alpha about the arrangements, he can replace them.
Little moments? I beg to differ. Maybe it was little moments for them, but for me it was nothing more than to get close to me and use me to get to the King and Queen.
I'm always surrounded with people having the same attitude. Toxic piece of shits, if I had a gun I would go for their heads.
My anger was rising by the second and every time I remember everything, I huffed out loudly.
I felt a stare behind my back so I turned around and saw the Queen. I think she followed me out. That must be why people were making a path for me.
Or rather, for the Queen. She stood there, not moving and just staring at me with her pale violet eyes. "I apologize for what I've done earlier. I didn't mean to scare you, I just thought you were her."
She sat down and put her hands above her thighs, wrapping them around each other.
So I carefully approached her and sat down on the empty space beside her, looking upfront. "My parents... are missing. I ended up here because we're looking for them."
And we know someone's in danger just by feeling.
Her eyes were teary but she is happy. "Tell me anything you want, I'll do it for you."
She chuckled lightly, the sound echoed through the air. "I know who enters my home, they go through me first."
Right. Documents go through the Queen, and of course she organized this whole thing. She knows I'm training the warriors.
This is like military papers going through those in power. Like how my letter ended up in Marshal's desk, I don't even wanna talk about it.
It was embarrassing for my uncle to read my love letter about someone in the military.
The poor dude was transferred to another division because of me.
And I made a poor excuse saying it wasn't me and there's a lot of Katelyn in the military.
Forgot my surname was in it. Ah, young love strikes the hardest.
But I'm glad she was willing to help. This was progress for me. She said she'd do anything. I'll gladly accept her offer, for my parents.
Then it was gone, her eyes turned back to her normal purple eyes and she smiled at me warmly.
I fixed my poise to see her smiling bright, reaching her eyes.
Something was happening and I need to find out why the people around me keeps having white eyes. Whatever it is, something or someone has a message for me.
I masked the shock on my face and ignored what happened, not giving the Queen a clue about anything.
As they walked both out of the hall, everyone began to get back to there own conversations, not mentioning anything about what just happened.
This kingdom is old enough to know their boundaries and what not to talk about, especially when the Queen is involved. Everyone here was taught manners by her.
Everyone, from day one has talked to the Queen either through their families or through school. The Queen does well teaching other children.
How she got the King to say yes to her teaching children while still leading a kingdom, is a mystery.
She outshines every single certified teachers that were hired by the King himself for the children. And he couldn't get anymore prouder than he already is when he saw the outcome of the Queen's teaching.
A well built kingdom, a communicative system and strong leadership, the strongest kingdom that has been built for centuries.
Licantropía Dynasty.
The home of the King and Queen, the lycans.
Ever since they emerged from the war, they have taken over the land and built their own kingdom. Over the years, the lycan blood was found to be gone.
The lycans who were to be asked to produce thousands of heir, banished into thin air and abandoned their throne.
Years later, werewolves took over the forest, the lands and properties. They took charge and rebuilt the kingdom in their own way.
Gnísios Kingdom.
As the King and Queen ruled the land, everything was peaceful. When the Queen gave birth to a little girl, everyone adored her.
They spoiled her with many gifts and proceeded to give her anything she wants as long as she learned how much love means to the world.
The kingdom was happy and rejoiced, until one faithful night. She said she was going to meet her friend, only to end up in a trap.
Sadly, the kingdom fell apart and a lot of people protested that the King and Queen should step down and let their advisers handle the kingdom with them only supervising.
It was a bold decision to agree but they had faith and trust for their people. A few years passed and the future seemed bright as the Queen gave birth to another child and everything was back to normal once again.
They mourned, they moved on and they healed.
They spoiled the child the same way they did for the little girl that was now only a memory.
The Kingdom thrived and was known to be the strongest and most resilient pack to exist. No one can outrule them, no one can take away their crown.
That's how it always has been for the past sixty years, and counting.
The King moved his head up and down, answering his question. "Let her be. The girl is the one who's leading the warriors that is assigned to guard us. I trust that she won't hurt someone who knows she can't cross."
It wasn't even a threat, it was the truth. After all, the Queen is a werewolf and a seer.
A seer.
Someone who can see your past and future. Someone powerful enough to open the curtains of your eyes and see through you.
But the Queen is different. She's more powerful than any seer alive. She can read you like an open book. One wrong answer, and you're tied to her hands.
When a seer sees your past or future, their eyes turn white as they speak words of mystery, that only the person they are talking with, will know the answer to.
The wife who's about to get spanked soon. In the bedroom. On the bed.
The King shook his head in an attempt to remove dirty thoughts from his mind before he gets a hard on then and there.
He got back to socializing with everyone, with his mind still on the Queen.
Well, if that's not luxury, she doesn't know what is. The Queen's practically befriended her, and all she could do was thank her a thousand times.
The Queen's eyes clouded for a moment as she stood still, not moving. A few seconds later, her eyes became clear and smiled at Katie softly.
She mind-linked her pack members to find Katie's parents. First, their Gamma, then the Gamma will command the men to search for Katie's parents, with the information Katie provided.
It would be a miracle to find them in a month, so Katie couldn't do anything except wait for the news and talk to the Queen all night.
The night went smooth and lovely. I thought I was going to encounter another attack so I had my guard up.
But I still have one problem to face when I go back inside once the Queen and I finish our talk.
Sen probably talked to Van by now about what happened between us. I can only hope that Van is still the gentleman who I think he is.
If not, then my blades are always ready, just hanging by my waist.
I just can't believe I've realized it too late. Van approached me carefully and acted kind towards me. Sen was quite at first as if she didn't trust me, but somehow, she began to talk and tell me stuff.
I thought it was nothing at first since I didn't know them that well at all. I gave them my trust because I knew, they were helping me.
But that help was nothing more than a mimic. It was used to cover up the fact that they will use me to get what they want.
I don't even know what they need from me, yet they're treating as if I'm the key to their lock. It's confusing me but I can't face Sen, not right now.
If I do, I might say something I don't like.
I smiled at her and nodded, agreeing. "Of course."
We got up and went inside, I was beside the Queen the whole time while she talked about her kingdom. I just gave a smile as a response, letting her know that I'm listening while walking.
When we reached the main room, everyone was laughing, dancing and drinking. They were all having fun and didn't look our way as if something didn't happen here a while ago.
Their behavior was strange but it calmed me down a bit, knowing I won't face the stares of the people.
The Queen hooked her arm around mine which surprised me as I turned to her. "Come, I want to introduce you to my husband and the birthday boy. Or man, whatever he prefers to be addressed as." She chuckled and pulled me towards the throne.
I obliged and let her drag me. Once at the top, the Queen let go of my arm and gave a kiss to her husband on the cheek. The King chuckled and patted his lap.
The Queen's eyes went wide as she playfully slapped the King's arm. The King once again, let out a deep chuckle but let the Queen sit on her chair.
I just witnessed them flirting in front of me. Holy water, where are you when I need you.
I cleared my throat to shake off the awkwardness I'm feeling and bowed down. "Greetings, your Highness. A pleasure to meet you."
Funny thing is, I'm not used to this kind of system. We have presidents, VPs and secretaries but no royalty.
For me, doing this is uncomfortable but amusing at the same time. I'm learning a lot about their world bit by bit.
Still confused what they meant by me being royalty. Ignoring it, I spoke respectfully. "I beg to differ, your Highness. You don't look old at all. If anything, you look like someone who's in their 20s." The King chuckled loudly, his head shook.
The Queen blushed but giggled, "She's indeed amusing. Now, where's Alex?"
The man who came, was wearing a warrior's uniform as he bowed and nodded his head, then walking to the double doors behind the throne.
It opened then closed, the person disappearing behind. Is Alex the name of the person who's the prince?
I chuckled. "I'm sure he'll come."
In cue, the doors behind them opened and a man walked out.
He was wearing the most extraordinary suit I've seen that is paired with his leathered shoes. He strode in with power as his eyes searched the room.
My eyes widened and I went rigid. Tears started to drop from my eyes as I looked the man up and down.
It was unbelievable, impossible and beyond belief.
"Is there something the matter, you're crying." The King addressed me as I wiped away my tears. My vision was blurry as I diverted my eyes back to him again.
The King's words caught his attention as he looked to him, only then did he notice me. His eyes went wide as his shoulders dropped.
My heart was racing, my palms were sweaty as I take in his features.
His eyes, his nose, his lips his whole face. I roamed my eyes everywhere until they stopped to his very own pools.
