Chapter 38
There was a total of three rooms where they put us, I'm with Katie, I'm not sure how the others divided themselves but I'm pretty sure they'll fit in the last two rooms.
I dived in the soft mattress, still floating a bit because of the water. The bubble in our faces is still there, we were told that it lasts for at least a week of oxygen. When it pops unplanned, we can just ask a mermaid for help.
Assuming we could reach the closest mermaid to us without running out of oxygen, we'll live.
We escape them, but barely. If we haven't encountered Kara, the mermaid who calls me friend, we wouldn't be here with the guidance of a king. We could be above, our scents washed away by the river as we continue to run away from the werewolves.
The mermaids did more than enough in sheltering us, a human inside their kingdom. Their kind is already going extinct and from what I've experienced, it's werewolves who take away their lives. What more if they found out the mermaids took humans, their mortal enemy, under their wings?
The mermaids invited us to dine with them. How we're suppose to eat, we'll find out. The two mermaids who led us to our rooms is also the one in front of us as they direct us to the dining room.
As we approached the double doors, the mermaids knock three times then it opened automatically.
Inside contains a lot of people, mermaids floating on chairs and eating their foods. The table was filled with meat, seafood and vegetables.
Just like any room we've been to, the dining room is tall, even large enough to fit a bunch of mermaids just to gather and eat.
We took our seat at the table, plates already prepared, the only thing we need to do is get our food and eat til' satisfied.
The king coughed, grabbing everyone's attention. He grabbed his cup and raised it.
"This is a toast, to honor the savior of my daughter, Kara, who this human saved from the clutches of the werewolves.
We thank you for your bravery and kindness towards our kind.
" He exclaimed, everyone grabbed their cups and clanged it towards one another, though we were underwater, the sounds of it colliding can still be heard loudly.
Everyone followed and soon began to eat once more. I picked up meat and and some vegetables, even though I don't like them, I'd like to try it once to show gratitude to the mermaids by eating food they have prepared.
I took a bite, the food slip through the bubble but it didn't pop, it took me a moment before I took a bite from the delicious food. When I was done, I carefully pulled it out, afraid the bubble might pop.
But to my surprise, it didn't and just bounced back to place. I smiled as I did the actions repeatedly. I turned to look at everyone as they too, began to eat to their fullest.
It took Katie days to find her sister. She sat on a tree as she tries to get some sleep, it's the only thing she could get at the moment because she never hunted for food.
She thought of doing it tomorrow, even a rabbit would be enough to help her get through the day. She only survived on water and rest.
The sun came up early as she heard the birds chirp, waking her up from her slumber. She got down the tree and began to ran, putting power on her legs as her brain racked on how to hunt food.
Night came and to her dismay, she hadn't catch one little animal in the forest. She can't remember how much water she had gulped in order to clench her thirst.
Two days flew by, she had began to make weapons out of woods, a spear and a trap, something that could help her with the hunt.
As she waited in the bushes for an animal to fall for her trap, she heard paws running in all directions. She froze steadily, her heart beating wild against her chest as the paws came closer.
She got up and left the bush, leaving the spear and trap behind as she runs for her life.
She could her growls and paws hitting the ground as she dodges roots and large obstacles.
As she came close towards the water where she knew she could swim away if their in wolf form, a werewolf jumped on her, they both landed on the floor as they roll around the dirt of the forest floor.
She groaned and gasp, pain rising to her back as she tries to get up using her arms. She scraped her arms on the little branches on the ground, leaves attached on her hair. A wolf held her down with its paws, Katie planted face first on the ground as weight was put on top of her.
She groaned and tried to remove it, earning a loud growl from the wolf, putting more pressure on her back.
She heard a set of paws coming closer, stopping just a few inches from them. As she fought, the two werewolves shifted to human form and told her to stop fighting and come with them.
She breathed heavily, trying to think of a way to escape. She nodded her head and sighed loudly, letting out a breath.
She secretly picked up a huge rock that was close to her, hiding it behind her with one hand. "Who knew the great trainer would be sentenced to death because she's human, eh?"
She threw the rock to the farthest wolf to her, then she sweeps the leg of the one close to her, his back fell first as he growled.
She ran again, dodging the trees and trying to make her eyes adjust towards the dark. A wolf came behind her and it missed a few inch as she ducked and ran away.
She found another rock and picked it up while running, not stopping one bit. She heard the wolf running behind her and as it claws on her, she smashed the rock on its head.
Since the wolf was holding on to her, she smashed the rock on its head a lot more than she should to knock it out. The claw on her was made bigger as the wolf dragged it across, until it stopped.
They both went down on the dirty floor, a huge claw on her stomach, and a broken skull on the wolf. She looked once more into its eyes, seeing the light leave its eyes.
She grabbed her stomach, her dress split in two, a trail of blood and mud smeared across it, and she was covered in a long pattern of claw marks. Her wound was hurting her more than it should have, and she was controlling her breathing.
She picked up the rock and ran away, thinking that it would help her again. The two wolves stopped at the dead body, howled loudly at the night, their nuzzles high up, they cried for their lost, the wind blowing in every direction.
Katie didn't dare look back, leaving the scene like she wasn't there. A few days passed by until it became a week, she found the elders and Kris near a cabin, collecting woods from the forest.
If I don't have the ointment, I might die. Kris said that it needs to be applied everyday for it to be effective and stop the poison from spreading more than it can.
Her head immediately whipped towards me, a frown on her face. "No, that's suicide. Who knows what's out there, they might have searched the whole place by now. If you go there, there's a chance you won't be coming back."
I chuckled. "It's gonna be fine. I'll take Tobias with me if that makes you feel better."
Laughing at her, I patted her head. I pulled her close and hugged her body. "It'll take me a day since the cabin is close and it's gonna be dangerous. Can you wait that long?"
She nodded, snuggling her head on my neck. I patted her back lightly, giving comfort.
I asked Millie to come with me, she understood how important the ointment is to me and she knows it's a suicide mission, either way she agreed to come and was willing to help me with it.
Tobias couldn't go since he's talking to the king, I don't know what about but I hope it's something good.
We informed Kara and the King of our plan, they gave a hand leading us onto the surface and told us they'd be waiting.
I've been given a knife, Kara knew how great I am with sharp things, sadly they don't know how to forge daggers as spears, swords and her father's trident are all they know how to make.
I took it because it's either the knife, or our blood spilling on the ground. Kara and her friends dragged us up. We just need to call them and they'll come out. They'll be waiting til' tomorrow.
As for Kris, I told her to sleep it off and when she wales up, I'll be by her side.
We dodged the huge trees and huge rocks, our feet tapping on the ground as we ran. The forest felt cold tonight as the moon was shining brightly above, giving light to our eyes.
The stars gazed below us as they hang out with the huge one. "We're almost there, just a little bit more." I whispered closely to Millie.
I can see the marks I've put on the trees while we ran away from the wolves. It's not much but if I'm the one who can see it, then we'll be there.
We reached the cabin and stopped just a few feet away. Millie breathed heavily as I panted, I observed the surroundings. We hid behind a tree and rested for a bit.
Nothing unusual was present; everything seems to be as it was when we left. It looks like that they didn't search the cabin at all.
I crawled inside using the window, quietly landing on the floorboard. It creaked when I stood up. I began to walk up the stairs, avoiding much noise as possible.
When I reached the top floor, I speed walked towards Kris' open room. I looked around for a bit and found nothing strange.
I got in and began to find the ointment. I forgot to ask where it was and now we're taking too much time.
I searched her closet, her bed, even her bathroom but nothing. I checked her drawer beside the bed, it only contains papers and folders.
I picked it up and opened it, realizing it was the formula on how she made wolfsbane. I read it carefully, word by word and image by image. She has this cute little drawings and arrows pointing everywhere, it was a mess. Reminds me that I should buy her a drawing book and sticky notes.
I put it back and began my search again, getting out of the room and searching the other ones. To my relief, the ointment is on the kitchen, on the far right of the cabin.
The stairs lead directly to the kitchen, a wall between the kitchen, the dining room and the living room. The top floor fitted much rooms and had one bathroom.
But how did the ointment end up here? Shaking the thought away, I turned back and headed to the window.
I froze midway. My heart thumped in shock, the ointment slipped from my hands as it broke, the contents spilling on the floor.
I looked at it shockingly and back at the person sitting in the living room. I took a step back and held the knife in my hand, hiding it behind my back.
A scream came from the door, followed by sounds of footsteps. I took another step back and watched as two wolves open the door, holding Millie between them.
I dropped the knife, raising my hands in surrender as I watch them hold Millie down. She struggled, sending glares at her captors.
The Alpha chuckled as he stood up from his seat, he walked towards Millie and I knew what he was gonna do.
I promised Kris I would return with the ointment. Not only will I not return, my remedy is gone. I'll die anytime soon so what's the point of struggling and lose Millie's life if in both ways, my end is deathly?
Since I'm already gonna die, I can at least save Millie and get herself to safety, it's the only thing I could do best at the moment.
The two werewolves let go of her as she stands up, dusting off her dress. She then kicked the two men beside her and flipped her hair off, walking away with grace.
That woman, geez I swear she can be a handful.
I woke up from a stiff bed, my back hurting as pain traveled around my body.
"The Alpha put you here, he carried you while you were unconscious."
I remember now, I'm sentence to death because I'm human. Anytime now, those doors leading to the exit will open and will spit out The Alpha, continuing his order to cut my head off.
I sighed and leaned back, my eyes forward. "You're human, aren't you?"
The huge doors opened and The Alpha came out, walking straight to my cell. He stopped in front of me and looked at me blankly, his hands on his pockets.
He responded with a low growl and began to unlock my cell door. He basically ripped it off of its hinges and picked me up like a doll.
Am I really that light or is it because the person who's carrying me is none other than The Alpha who so happens to be the strongest among everyone in here.
He looked at me weirdly with his eyes then turned back front.
"I won't let you get the luxury of having a peaceful death because of what you've done to me.
You manipulated me, I thought you were someone I can trust, it turns out you're someone who I despise.
" He growled once more, vibration traveled through his body, my arms felt it.
"Those boys of yours planned to have fun with me. What makes you think I'll just oblige to their fucking desires?" I argued back, creeped out by the fact that I was almost taken advantage of if I haven't broken the werewolf's skull.
He faltered for a moment but recovered in a flash, his steps were faster as he drags me with him. "Hurry up, I don't have all day."
He handed me to the fake Alpha I met who might I add, also tried to kill me. He said he had something to do and disappeared behind a door.
We stood on a stage, an executioner waiting at the bottom with his weapon which he will use to cut off my head.
I was kneeling, my hands tied to my back, two werewolves held me down by my shoulders, people started to gather one by one to witness the scene.
As The pretend Alpha gives his wonderfully prepared speech in front of everyone, I looked around. Everyone either looked at me with pity or disgust. Some were even shouting to hurry up and cut my head off which only resulted The pretend Alpha growling for his lack of manners while he speaks.
When he finishes, he sits upon The Alpha's high chair like it's his, the leg over the other as he looks at everything in nervousness. Sighing heavily, he motioned the executioner to finish the job.
I can feel my hands getting wet as the man takes slow steps above the stairs, leading towards my space. I struggled free from the werewolves, they held me down with more force as I fought them off.
It was no use, I think this is how I'll really die.
The moon shone above us, light illuminated the sky, stars danced around as I waited for my end.
I closed my eyes and let out a difficult breath, my nerves are shaking as time passes by.
He was dressed in fancy clothes with a watch on his hand. "Stop this nonsense, look at her eyes. No human can obtain such eyes. They are only made for those in royalty in the werewolf world."
The pretend Alpha stood up and growled. "You have no such proof."
I nodded my head and went down the stairs, following the man out of that hellhole.
We got in a car and a few minutes is all it took to get to their kingdom. The guards welcomed us, opening the huge gate and letting us in. My stomach began to hurt for some reason.
The last thing I remember was my head hitting the floor.
