Chapter 39

It feels like I'm floating, my mind hazy as my breath rises. It feels cold and itchy everywhere, I didn't know what was happening.

"Treasure him." A voice whispered behind me, hands wrapped around my arms, holding me in place.

"Who are you?"

"Treasure him." It spoke again, it's doing the same thing that happens with my dreams, speaking in riddles and nothing but riddles.

It grabbed my neck and painfully twisted it, my eyes went wide as I pushed it off.

The dream was gone, but it was still dark.

"Is she gonna be okay?" I heard someone whisper, my eyelids were shut but my ears weren't. Though there's a bit ringing noise to it.

"She's going to be fine, her wound was infected so I had to clean it, nothing out of the ordinary. She just needs to rest and recover her energy."

That's right, I have a huge wound on my stomach, but to my relief, I can't feel any pain or discomfort, it's just like I'm completely fine.

"When will she wake up?" I recognize the voice, the Queen spoke with worry laced in her tone, she must be talking to the doctor.

"Should be soon. No need to worry, Your Majesty. I'm not the best doctor for no reason." The man chuckled before I heard shuffling and the close of a door.

I felt a soft hand touch my forehead, caressing it. It diverted my hair away from my eyes and fixed the sheet that covered me.

My body felt tired, every part doesn't want to move as I lay there. "Goddess, she looks so pale and not moving like a corpse." I heard water droplets beside me then I felt a cold towel touch my forehead.

It eased my mind a little bit, the heat beginning to dissipate. If I could, I would let out a sigh of relief, but it was like I was frozen. All I could do was breath and hear.

But I didn't complain, what happened took a toll on my body and it's recovering from it, I'm glad the infection from my wound was gone and I'm fine now.

The Queen sings a lullaby, her voice so beautiful, it made me feel sleepy. It was soft, low and the melody was perfect as it should be.

With that, I slept once again, nothing on my mind except The Queen's voice dancing around my ears.

The doctor immediately came to their aid and asked The King to put her down so he could examine her.

He first checked her temperature, she has a fever and went to look for something in her body.

When he found it, he lifted her shirt up but before he could, The King stopped him. "What are you doing?"

The King lets him go and proceeds to glare daggers at the doctor. The man only ignored him and went to do his job.

Once he lifted Katie's shirt, he froze for a moment. "It's infected." He murmured once he saw her huge wound.

They put her in the stretcher and lifted it up, walking as fast as they could towards the med wing.

Only to be replaced by the dooming voice of his father. "Alex, listen to the doctor. Let her rest, she lost a lot of blood."

It was a war, all right. A battle between reality and fantasy. Supernaturals versus natural creatures, no one knew what the outcome would be, or who would be alive to witness it.

The Marshal led the army, they were all set and armed, they know they're fighting something they do not have information of or lack of it, but their determination and pride leads them.

As they boarded their choppers, weapons, ammunition and dangerous equipment with them, they set course to the forest, where they know the supernatural creatures live.

Safety off.

He's referring to the fight between werewolves and shapeshifters. They're close on invading the kingdom and it won't be long for them to get in.

The King and Queen has asked all active packs to lend a hand in the upcoming war, only a few returned with a yes, some still undecided.

Some declined, afraid of what the shapeshifters will do to them and their people, it was mostly the packs with lesser members. It was understandable so we just accepted what we got, at least we got help anyways.

What still bothers me is that I saw no soldier that day, I mean, I just saw her lying on the floor already.

He came back for the girl, who's name I still don't know yet there's something about her that's strange.

Why would he come back to just kill the girl?

The Dark Alpha.

I heard the rumors all right. The man can take down an entire pack without any help if he wanted to.

They keep saying that he's more of a beast than a man, that the man inside him was too broken, the wolf took it as a chance to take over completely.

Without hesitation, he attacked. He went for my left arm but I was able to dodge it, moving away from him and creating a few distance from him.

My eyes zeroed in on his legs, he put his leg forward in an attempt to come close to me so I didn't hesitate to go for it.

He suddenly stepped that leg back and left me vulnerable under him. He rounded up and pulled me by the torso.

He pulled me up and we both went down, my back came in contact with the ground first, Kyle behind me but he didn't seem affected at all.

He elbowed my chin, making me dizzy for a bit as my head whiffed. Before I could recover, he grabbed me and had me in a choke hold.

I struggled in his hold, I stomped on his feet which fortunately worked and he lets me go. I punched him in the face followed by a kick in the legs.

He aimed for my legs and had me on the ground in a second, him on top of me as he held me in place, my hands being held at the top of my head.

I raised my right leg and kneed him where the sun doesn't shine. "Don't let your guard down, brother." I chuckled.

He was sideways on the ground as his legs were entwined, his hands on his groin. He feels uncomfortable as he swings himself from left to right, his eyes closed.

Her husband huffed and crossed his arms, clearly not liking how his wife acted.

She's not gonna cry, is she? I remembered the night she promised me she would find my parents, I remember her eyes turning to white and said stuff that was random.

I remember my dress was gold, I remember it being the day I tried to escape from the Mystic Heart's clutches.

I remember that was the day I ended up being alone in a forest and had to learn how to hunt in order to survive.

I remember that night very well because it was the night where I finally laid eyes on my brother again.

I closed my eyes in defeat and sighed heavily. "Fine, just, can you guys make sure I still keep my head when I lose the game? I still need to find my parents."

She giggled as her eyes disappeared. I shook my head and walked to my brother. "Can you make sure that she finds our," I paused. "my parents?"

It's not that I didn't trust the Queen, but knowing Kyle is overseeing all this, makes me feel at ease.

It was getting dark, it could be dangerous for them since it's the forest but some of these men are trained to be awake at night.

Only problem is, it can be counted by fingers, they don't know if their enemy even sleeps at night or at day. What they do know is that they're here because the Marshal called for them.

Those thirty minutes looked like the longest minute of his life as they landed not too far from the pack, five cars waiting for them to be boarded.

They got on and headed towards the border, stopping when they saw a human, at least three of them on guard and blocking their way.

They were in the meeting room, a huge table surrounded by chairs which was filled by different leaders of the pack.

They were discussing strategies on how to improve their defense without the Alpha, also about the training of their pack members when they heard news of soldiers threatening to come through their borders.

He groans, unbelievable. What timing.

The man panted, gripping his chest like he'd just escaped a marathon, and said, "We do not know."

He calls out to one of his soldiers, "Where is the Alpha?" One replies, then resumes his previous activity, "He is not here, sir. Him and his warrior leaders simply departed the pack hours ago."

It was clear that he was stressed out, the situation was hard to handle because one wrong move, he could have the whole military beyond their borders.

And if they don't handle it properly, their population could be wiped out much sooner, possibly even much sooner.

They headed where the soldiers are waiting, brought at least trained warriors beside them in case anything escalates.

The border of the pack, an unseen barrier, separated them. The werewolves can feel it in their hearts even if it is invisible to the naked eyes.

The soldier looked him up and down, snorting at his choice of words. It was like he was talking to someone on the phone rather than someone a few meters away from him. "My name is Marshal Conner Zalda. I am currently in command of these people." The Marshal answered.

"Is he even allowed to bring a whole army just for one person?" He wonders as they walk back to their border.

Everyone is afraid. Afraid for their lives, their children, their home. Of course, this ruckus cannot be hidden for long since it was so noisy with the human's vehicles.

The choppers, big cars and the clanging of their guns. The werewolves fear that it might be the end for them.

Katie's eyes widened, shock took over her face. It's true, the vehicles and men in uniform are all in a defense position. They've set up campfire too.

She approaches a soldier who looks to be a sergeant, a gun strapped to his chest, positioned in front of him as he stays guard.

The soldier heard her incoming footsteps and turned around, pointing the gun at her. The soldier immediately turned the gun down, apologizing.

She looks the man up and down, analyzing him. He sure is wearing a soldier's uniform, holding a soldier's gun and stands like one. The gun had the safety off, which bugged Katie more than it should.

There's nothing out here except the population of supernaturals, as far as she knows, no supernatural has turned the humans as an enemy apart from the werewolves.

But she doubts these people knew that.

The noise echoed through the forest, but not enough to catch everyone's attention. The soldier looked at her weirdly, as if she lost her mind spending time in their world.

They reached the tent and introduced themselves before going in. Katie was the only one allowed in the tent per Marshal's order.

She looked to the man sitting in his chair, papers on his desk spread wide as his glasses were almost falling from his face. He was slumped back, holding a pen and paper.

He looks to his front, only to be faced by his very own niece, in one piece. Safe and sound. Shock vibrated through him, it took him a few seconds to realize what was happening until he gets up and immediately engulfed his niece in a tight hug.
