The Lookalike Murders

In Fairview, Missouri, Claire Dyer tends bar for a family the town treats as respectable, even while she suspects her father is supplying the local opioid crisis.

After what happened the last time she tried to run, she stays obedient, dating the men she is told to date and keeping her suspicions to herself.

An addict is then found murdered with the words it should have been me carved into her skin, and Kansas City detective Seth Winslow immediately sees how closely the victim resembles Claire.

The youngest man on the force, still battling his own history with addiction, he intends to solve the crime quickly and quietly, but more girls who look like Claire are killed and the trail keeps returning him to the Dyers.

Claire is his best witness, yet protection and desire become harder to separate the nearer he gets.

Trusting him would mean betraying the family she swore she would never turn against.
