A mistake almost made
Author's pov-
The night was heavy with the scent of rain, the dim glow of streetlights casting long shadows as Divya leaned against rehan's car. Her heart pounded-not from excitement, but from the storm raging inside her.
Rehan stood close, his fingers grazing her arm, his eyes dark and filled with unspoken promises. "You don't have to think so much," he murmured, tilting her chin up. "Just feel."
Divya let out a shaky breath. She wanted to forget. She wanted to drown out the anger, the hurt, the way purv had walked away without a second glance.
So, she did what she thought would numb the pain.
She kissed Rehan.
It was desperate, reckless, and everything she thought she needed in the moment. His hands slid down her waist, pulling her flush against him as he deepened the kiss. His lips were warm, demanding, coaxing her into surrender.
She let herself get lost in it-for a second.
But then, something shifted.
Rehan's touch wasn't soft; it was possesive. His hands wandered in ways that made her tense instead of melt. The way he kissed her-hunger, eager-felt different from what she had imagined escape would feel like.
Then, without warning, an image of purv flashed in her mind.
The way he looked at her with unspoken emotions, the way his touch had always felt intense yet careful, as if he was scared of breaking her. The way he had walked away today, his face unreadable-but not indifferent.
Her eyes flew open.
What was she doing?
Divya pulled back abruptly, her breath ragged. Rehan blinked in confusion, his hands still on her waist. "What's wrong?"
She shook her head, stepping out of his hold. "I... I can't."
Rehan's jaw clenched, but he masked it with a smirk. "Why not?"
"Because this isn't me," she whispered. "And this isn't what I want."
Rehan's eyes darkened. He took a step closer, but she moved back, wrapping her arms around herself.
"I should go," she said, more to herself than to him.
Rehan watched her for a long moment before exhaling through his nose, the smirk never leaving his lips. "Suit yourself," he said, voice smooth, as if he wasn't the least bit affected.
But as she turned and walked away, she could feel his gaze burning into her back.
And for the first time, she realised- rehan wasn't just playing a game.
He was waiting for her to break.
