Walking away

Author's pov-

Divya barely made it back home before the weight of everything crashed down her. She sat on the edge of her bed, gripping the sheets, her lips still tingling from the mistake she almost made.

But it didn't matter. Nothing mattered-because she had stopped before it went too far. Right?

Then why did guilt settle so heavily in her chest?

A sudden loud knock on her door made her jump.

"Divya!"

Her breath hitched. She knew that voice-she'd recognise it anywhere.

Purv.

The urgency in his tone sent chills down her spine. She hesitated for a moment before walking over and unlocking the door.

The second she did, purv stormed in. His expression was unreadable-no, it was more than that. It was pure, unfiltered rage. His eyes burned with something she had never seen before.

She barely had a second to react before his voice cut through the air.

"What the fuck you were doing with Rehan?"

Divya stiffened. "Purv-"

"Answer me!" He barked, stepping closer, his fists clenched at his sides.

She swallowed hard, her heart hammering against her ribs. "It wasn't-"

"Don't you fucking dare say it wasn't what it looked like!" He let out a bitter laugh, shaking his head. "I saw you, Divya! I saw you letting him touch you, letting him kiss you-"

She flinched, his words cutting deeper than she expected. "I-"

"I was going to fix everything between us," he interrupted, his voice shaking with anger.

"I was going to tell you the truth-that vaani and rehan were playing a fucking game, that they set all of this up just to break us apart.

I was ready to make things right." His jaw clenched, his chest rising and falling rapidly. "But you were busy enjoying it."

Divya's eyes widened. "What?"

He laughed again, but there was no humor in it. "Vaani planned everything, Divya. She was jealous-jealous of what we had, jealous that I moved on from her. She used rehan to create misunderstandings between us, and guess what? It worked."

Divya's stomach twisted painfully. She felt like the ground beneath her was crumbling.

But purv wasn't done.

"I trusted you," he continued, his voice lower now, but no less intense. "Even when things got fucked up, I still believed in you. I still thought you were different. But you let him touch you." He stepped closer, his gaze burning into hers. "Did you like it?"

Her breath caught in her throat. "Purv, please-"

"Did you?" He repeated, his voice dangerously quiet.

Tears pricked her eyes. "I was hurt," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "I was angry, and I-"

"That's not an answer," he cut in coldly.

She bit her lip, her vision blurring. "For a second, I let myself think it didn't matter. But it did. That's why I stopped."

Purv exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. His rage didn't lessen, but there was something else in his eyes now- something raw.

"I can't do this," he finally said, his voice thick with something she couldn't quite place. "I can't keep fighting for someone who doesn't know what she wants."

Divya felt her heart shatter. "Purv, don't-"

But he was already turning away.

"This... whatever the fuck this is between us-it's over," he muttered. "I'm done."

The door slammed shut behind him, and with it, something inside divya broke beyond repair.
