CHAPTER SIX
When the Moon Remembers
"Some hearts recognize each other long before memories do."
The sanctuary remained silent long after Orion vanished into the darkness.
Only the faint glow of Lyra's pendant illuminated the chamber.
She slowly opened her hand.
The silver pendant had unfolded into half of a crescent moon.
Its edges looked broken.
As though another half still existed somewhere.
Lyra whispered,
"What... is this?"
The ancient silver dragon lowered its enormous head.
"The Moon Pendant."
"The symbol of the First Queen."
Lyra frowned.
"I've worn it since I was a child."
"It was found beside you."
Queen Seraphine's eyes widened.
"No..."
She turned toward Kael.
"You never told her?"
Kael remained silent.
Lyra looked at him.
"You knew?"
Kael finally nodded.
"When I first met you..."
"I recognized the pendant."
Her voice trembled.
"And you never told me?"
"I couldn't."
"Why?"
"Because if you were truly the Moon Queen reborn..."
"...your life would never be ordinary again."
Lyra looked away.
A strange sadness settled over her.
"So everyone knew pieces of my story..."
"...except me."
Without another word...
She began walking toward the sanctuary exit.
Kael followed quietly.
Neither of them spoke.
The silence between them felt heavier than any argument.
Outside...
Night covered the mountains.
Thousands of stars shimmered above the frozen peaks.
The cold wind carried the scent of pine forests below.
Lyra stopped beside the cliff overlooking the valley.
"I miss being ordinary."
Kael stood beside her.
"I know."
"No..."
She smiled sadly.
"You don't."
Kael remained quiet.
After a long pause, he spoke.
"When I was ten..."
"My father told me that one day I would have to protect someone more important than myself."
Lyra looked at him.
"I hated that idea."
She blinked.
"You did?"
"I wanted my own life."
"My own dreams."
"But destiny never asked me what I wanted."
For the first time...
Lyra smiled.
"A prince complaining about responsibility?"
Kael laughed softly.
"I was very dramatic."
She laughed too.
A genuine laugh.
The first in days.
For one quiet moment...
Everything else disappeared.
No dragons.
No prophecy.
No destiny.
Just two young people standing beneath a sky full of stars.
Kael looked at her.
"You should smile more."
Lyra looked away quickly.
"You say that as if it's easy."
"It becomes easier."
"When?"
"When someone gives you a reason."
Their eyes met.
Neither looked away.
Then—
The pendant around Lyra's neck suddenly glowed.
A beam of silver light shot toward the northern mountains.
Straight into the sky.
The stars themselves seemed to answer.
The dragon emerged behind them.
"It has begun."
Lyra turned.
"What has?"
"The Moon Path."
The dragon spread its enormous wings.
"Only once every thousand years..."
"The path between the old world and the forgotten kingdom opens."
Queen Seraphine whispered,
"So soon..."
The dragon continued.
"You have seven nights."
"If you fail..."
"The Moon Kingdom will disappear forever."
Lyra felt her heartbeat quicken.
"And if I succeed?"
The dragon looked at her with ancient sadness.
"You will remember everything."
Kael quietly asked,
"And what happens then?"
The dragon did not answer immediately.
Instead...
It looked toward the horizon.
Finally it spoke.
"Some memories heal."
"Others destroy."
That night...
No one slept.
Lyra sat alone outside the sanctuary.
The moon reflected in a small crystal lake.
She looked at her own reflection.
For a brief second...
It wasn't hers.
A woman wearing a silver crown stared back.
Behind her stood a young man dressed in white armor.
He smiled gently.
Then...
The image vanished.
"You're seeing them too."
Kael's voice came from behind.
She nodded.
"I don't understand."
"I don't know what's real anymore."
Kael sat beside her.
Neither spoke for a while.
Finally Lyra whispered,
"What if..."
"...I remember loving someone else?"
Kael looked at the moon.
His answer came slowly.
"Then those memories deserve respect."
She turned toward him.
"You wouldn't be angry?"
He smiled sadly.
"I don't own your heart."
Silence.
Then he added quietly,
"I only hope... one day... it chooses freely."
Lyra felt something tighten inside her chest.
She wanted to say something.
Anything.
But no words came.
Instead...
She rested her head gently against Kael's shoulder.
He froze.
Slowly...
Very carefully...
He rested his head against hers.
Neither of them moved.
The moon watched silently above.
Far away...
From the top of a ruined black tower...
Orion watched them.
His silver eyes reflected both sadness...
And hope.
An elderly dragon landed beside him.
"You could stop them."
Orion shook his head.
"No."
"If her heart returns to him..."
"...then destiny has already made its choice."
The dragon looked surprised.
"You would let her go?"
Orion smiled faintly.
"I promised to protect her."
"Not possess her."
Suddenly—
The sky split with silver lightning.
The moon turned crimson for a single heartbeat.
Every dragon in the mountains roared together.
The earth trembled.
The ancient silver dragon lifted its head.
Its voice echoed across the valley.
"He has awakened."
Kael immediately stood.
"Who?"
The dragon's golden eyes darkened.
"The one even dragons feared."
Queen Seraphine's face turned white.
"No..."
"It cannot be..."
Deep beneath the Black Mountains...
Two enormous crimson eyes slowly opened.
Ancient chains shattered.
A monstrous roar echoed through the darkness.
Not silver.
Not blue.
Fire.
Pure fire.
A voice filled the underground abyss.
"Find... the Moon Queen."
