CHAPTER NINE

The Dragon's Trial

"The strongest warriors are not those who never fall... but those who rise after every wound."

The stone dragons stood motionless.

Six enormous guardians blocked the ancient bridge.

Blue runes pulsed beneath their feet.

Their eyes glowed brighter with every passing second.

The largest guardian stepped forward.

Its voice echoed like thunder.

"Those who seek the Temple of Echoes must prove three things."

"Courage."

"Loyalty."

"Truth."

Kael raised his sword.

"We're ready."

The guardian slowly shook its massive head.

"You do not decide when the trial begins."

The bridge suddenly disappeared beneath them.

Everything turned white.

Lyra opened her eyes.

She stood alone.

No Kael.

No Orion.

No dragons.

Only endless white mist.

A gentle voice whispered behind her.

"You've grown."

Lyra slowly turned.

Standing before her...

Was Queen Selene.

She looked exactly like Lyra.

Only older.

More graceful.

A silver crown rested upon her head.

Moonlight flowed around her like living water.

Lyra couldn't breathe.

"You're..."

Selene smiled softly.

"I am what remains of your memories."

Tears filled Lyra's eyes.

"Who am I?"

Selene stepped closer.

"You are Lyra."

"And you are me."

"Both are true."

Lyra shook her head.

"I don't understand."

"You don't have to become Queen Selene."

"You only have to remember why she chose hope."

Suddenly—

The vision shattered.

Meanwhile...

Kael found himself standing inside the royal palace.

His father stood before him.

Alive.

"You failed your kingdom."

Kael lowered his head.

"I know."

"You chose one girl over your people."

Pain filled Kael's chest.

His father's voice became colder.

"A king never follows his heart."

Kael slowly looked up.

"No."

His father frowned.

Kael smiled sadly.

"A tyrant doesn't."

"A true king protects both."

The illusion disappeared.

Elsewhere...

Orion stood inside a ruined throne room.

Moonlight poured through broken windows.

Queen Selene stood before him.

Alive.

Smiling.

"You came back."

Orion's hands trembled.

"I was too late."

She gently touched his face.

"You kept blaming yourself."

"I failed you."

Selene shook her head.

"No."

"You kept your promise."

Orion froze.

She smiled.

"You protected our world."

"Even if it cost us everything."

For the first time in a thousand years...

Orion cried.

The illusion faded.

The bridge returned.

All three stood together once again.

The stone guardian looked at them.

"You have passed."

The dragons stepped aside.

The Temple of Echoes stood beyond the bridge.

It was magnificent.

Towering silver pillars reached toward the sky.

Thousands of glowing crystals floated in the air.

Every wall shimmered with ancient memories.

Lyra slowly walked inside.

The Moon Pendant floated into the air.

Its broken crescent began searching.

Then—

A second silver pendant emerged from the center of the temple.

The missing half.

It floated toward Lyra.

The two halves touched.

A brilliant explosion of silver light filled the temple.

The complete Moon Pendant was restored.

At that exact moment...

Every dragon in the kingdom roared together.

The ground violently shook.

The temple ceiling exploded.

Stone rained from above.

A gigantic crimson claw crashed through the roof.

Everyone looked up.

The Crimson Dragon had arrived.

He was beyond enormous.

His scales glowed like molten lava.

His wings covered the entire sky.

Black smoke drifted from his body.

His golden horns curved backward like burning crowns.

His eyes...

Locked directly onto Lyra.

The dragon smiled.

A terrifyingly human smile.

"So..."

His voice echoed across the mountains.

"The Moon Queen finally returned."

Lyra tightened her grip on the Moon Sword.

"You know me."

"I knew you..."

The dragon answered.

"...before history became a lie."

Kael stepped protectively in front of Lyra.

"You won't touch her."

The Crimson Dragon laughed.

"You still believe you're protecting her?"

His burning eyes shifted toward Orion.

"And you..."

The smile disappeared.

"Brother."

Silence.

Kael stared at Orion.

Lyra felt her heart stop.

"Brother...?"

Orion slowly lowered his sword.

His expression was filled with grief.

"Yes."

"He was once my brother."

The entire world seemed to freeze.

The Crimson Dragon spread his wings.

"I offered dragons eternity."

"They called me a monster."

"I offered humans power."

"They betrayed me."

"So I decided..."

"...to become stronger than both."

Fire exploded across the mountains.

Hundreds of corrupted dragons appeared from the crimson clouds.

Their scales burned black and red.

Their eyes held no life.

The ancient silver dragon roared.

"Protect the Queen!"

Silver dragons filled the sky.

The greatest dragon battle in history had begun.

Crimson fire collided with silver moonlight.

Mountains trembled.

The heavens themselves seemed to shake.

Kael fought beside Lyra.

Orion transformed.

Silver light engulfed his body.

Gigantic wings burst from his back.

Within seconds...

The Dragon King soared into the storm.

Silver and crimson dragons collided above the mountains.

Roars echoed across the world.

Lyra watched the battle in disbelief.

The complete Moon Pendant suddenly glowed.

A warm voice whispered inside her heart.

"The Queen never fought alone."

Moonlight surrounded Lyra.

Silver wings of pure light unfolded behind her.

The Moon Sword shone brighter than the stars.

Every dragon stopped for one heartbeat.

The ancient dragon whispered in awe...

"The Moon Queen has awakened."
