CHAPTER TEN
The Last Moon
"Legends are not remembered because they never fall... they are remembered because they choose love over fear."
The heavens burned.
Silver moonlight clashed against crimson fire.
Above the shattered Temple of Echoes, dragons filled the sky in the greatest battle the world had witnessed in a thousand years.
Lyra stood at the center of the battlefield.
The completed Moon Pendant rested against her heart.
Its silver light spread across the mountains.
The Crimson Dragon descended.
Each beat of his wings shook the earth.
He landed before Lyra, Kael, and Orion.
His molten eyes never left Lyra.
"So..."
he said quietly.
"Queen Selene has finally awakened."
Lyra tightened her grip on the Moon Sword.
"I'm not Queen Selene."
The Crimson Dragon smiled sadly.
"No."
"You are better."
Everyone froze.
Even Orion looked surprised.
The Crimson Dragon slowly transformed.
Red flames surrounded his body.
The colossal dragon disappeared.
Standing before them was a tall man in ancient crimson armor.
Long black hair flowed behind him.
Golden eyes burned like dying stars.
Scars crossed his face.
He looked powerful...
and unbearably tired.
Kael raised his sword.
"Don't move."
The man ignored him.
Instead, he looked only at Lyra.
"My name..."
he whispered,
"...was Aster."
The name echoed through the valley.
"I was never born a monster."
Lyra remained silent.
Aster looked toward Orion.
"We were brothers."
Orion lowered his head.
"I know."
"We dreamed of protecting the world together."
His voice broke.
"But fear changed everything."
Aster looked toward the crimson sky.
"When humans feared dragons..."
"They begged me to make them stronger."
"I searched for forbidden magic."
"I believed I could end every war."
"I was wrong."
The crimson power slowly consumed him.
Turning hope...
into obsession.
Tears formed in Orion's eyes.
"I tried to save you."
"I know."
Aster answered softly.
"And I hated you for surviving."
Silence.
For the first time...
The villain wasn't terrifying.
He was tragic.
Suddenly—
The crimson moon cracked.
Dark energy exploded across the sky.
The Eclipse was collapsing.
Queen Seraphine shouted,
"If it breaks completely..."
"The entire world will disappear!"
Ancient dragons roared in panic.
Mountains began falling apart.
The sea rose violently in the distance.
The world itself was dying.
The Moon Pendant glowed brilliantly.
A familiar voice echoed inside Lyra's heart.
"Every age is given one choice..."
"Destroy the darkness..."
"Or heal what created it."
Lyra looked at Aster.
Then at Orion.
Then at Kael.
She understood.
The real enemy had never been dragons.
Or humans.
It had always been hatred.
She slowly lowered her sword.
Kael looked shocked.
"Lyra!"
She smiled through tears.
"I won't win another war."
"I'm ending it."
She walked toward Aster.
Orion tried to stop her.
"Don't!"
She gently took Aster's trembling hand.
His crimson flames instantly surrounded her.
Everyone gasped.
Instead of burning...
The Moon Pendant shone brighter.
Silver light flowed into Aster's heart.
The crimson corruption slowly cracked.
Like broken glass.
Aster fell to his knees.
"I..."
he whispered.
"...I don't remember..."
Lyra smiled.
"You don't have to remember pain anymore."
The crimson fire disappeared.
Golden light replaced it.
The sky fell silent.
One by one...
The corrupted dragons transformed back into their true silver forms.
The Eclipse vanished.
The crimson moon faded.
For the first time in one thousand years...
The true moon shone again.
Warm silver light covered the kingdom.
Every dragon bowed.
Not to a queen.
To hope.
Aster looked at Orion.
"I'm sorry."
Orion stepped forward.
Without saying a word...
He embraced his brother.
Neither of them spoke.
They didn't need to.
Some wounds could never disappear.
But they no longer had to be carried alone.
Kael walked toward Lyra.
"You scared me."
She laughed softly.
"I know."
He smiled.
"So..."
"What happens now?"
Lyra looked toward the horizon.
The first sunrise in a thousand years painted the mountains in gold.
"I think..."
"...the world begins again."
Kael gently reached for her hand.
This time...
She didn't let go.
Orion smiled quietly.
For the first time...
His heart felt light.
High above them...
Hundreds of silver dragons soared through the morning sky.
Their roars no longer sounded like war.
They sounded like freedom.
Years later...
Children would gather beneath the restored Moon Tree.
They would ask whether the legends were true.
Whether dragons had really filled the skies.
Whether a queen had saved the world.
Whether two brothers had ended a thousand years of hatred.
The elders would simply smile.
Then they would point upward.
Because on clear nights...
Silver dragons could still be seen flying across the moon.
Guarding a world that had finally learned...
that the strongest magic was never power.
It was compassion.
