The Mountain that Saved Christmas (Bull Mountain Ranch)
The Wish
THE WISH
1st December
Dear Ruthie,
Thanks for your last letter. I loved hearing from you and the 'hot tea' you had about your townsfolk.
Every time you talk about your town, I feel happy but also sad because all the dreams I had for Rainbow Springs never seem to come to fruition.
I know it's my legacy and my hometown. But sometimes I wish I had a magic wand that I could just wave around and poof suddenly everything would be fixed. The main street would be buzzing with people, and everywhere you'd look, there'd be tinsel and bells on every lamppost and Christmas trees on every corner. Like what happened last year when you and the Sallys made sure the Christmas spirit was alive and well in the mountains.
Unfortunately, we don't have that kind of camaraderie in my town anymore. It's grown quiet and small. People just pass through, getting in and out once they've taken care of their business, or visitors who never stay longer than a night or two. Just like your friends Red and Mags did. Don't get me wrong, everyone is lovely and I truly believe they have hearts of gold, but everyone has homes to go to. My town just doesn't seem to be a place where they want to stay for a while.
I love Christmas. I have fond memories from years gone by when the town would all come together to celebrate the holiday season. Lately, I've found myself wanting to create new memories and relive the old ones.
That's why, if ever I was going to make a Christmas wish to the big jolly man in Red, it would be for the town of Rainbow Springs to be transformed into a Winter Wonderland just like you all did in Spring Haven last year. Even if it was just a day where we'd have a big Christmas festival where the kids could sit on Santa's knee and the local farmers and business owners could sell their wares in a market. Maybe I'd even get a kiss on the cheek under the mistletoe like in those mushy Christmas movies.
Anyway, since that's never going to happen, I hope this letter gets to you in time so that I can wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy holiday time, one filled with lifelong memories that you can hold dear until it all happens again next year.
Thank you for your friendship. You are truly one of the bright lights in my life. I hope you know that.
