19. Chapter 19
Iconfessed I hadn’t taken my medication in several days. Summoner insisted I spend the rest of the week with him. Friday would be an unpaid day off, but it was for the best.
That evening, I sat on his bed in a bit of awe as he looked for something in the walk-in closet. The racks of clothes and shoes with labels like Versace and Fendi took me aback because, on the surface, he didn’t seem to be a fashion guy. He stepped into the bedroom with a folded shirt in his hands.
“It’s silly, but I have something for you.”
“I’m all about silly!”
The shirt smacked me in the face.
“Hey!” I laughed.
“Was thinking maybe you can sleep in this?”
Confused, as I was already dressed in my cute pink tank top and sleep shorts, I unfolded the shirt he tossed at me. I squeaked. The oversized gray t-shirt was a shirt from Summoner’s 86 Moon’s Eyes Tour. A moody, long-haired Summoner pouted seductively across the fabric.
“I can keep this?” I asked.
He nodded. “Yeah. I want to be with you even when I can’t.”
I jumped off the bed, whipped off my tank, and pulled on the shirt. The hem hung past my thighs. Grinning, I held out my arms and spun around like I was dressed made with the finest silk and not a decades-old shirt.
You’re weird. Stop being weird.
I stopped spinning around to Summoner smiling at me from the bed.
“Uh, I really like it,” I mumbled.
“I’m glad. I just want you to be comfortable here. Okay?”
“Okay.”
“Good. Now, get over here.” His cheeky little wink sent my heart into a frenzy.
Giggling, I jumped into bed. With the press of a button on one of the bedside tables, the lights slowly dimmed before turning off. The lights of New York punctuated the night sky. The view out of the floor to ceiling windows was something I would never get used to. Summoner pulled me close.
“…So, we’ve never spent the night together under normal circumstances. What’s Summoner’s routine like?”
“It’s not very rockstar, I must admit.”
“No champagne for breakfast?”
“Sadly, no. I usually wake up early and hit the pool.”
“Pool?”
“Yeah, I installed it 10 years ago. An amazing form of exercise. You’re welcome to join me.”
“I don’t swim. Thanks, though.”
“… Well, after that, I have my coffee. I read the newspaper. I respond to emails.”
“You have an email address?” I giggled.
“Yes, I do Poppy.”
“Wwwwow….”
Ignoring my sarcasm, he continued, “Then I get some work done. Make phone calls. Nothing too exciting, I’ll admit.”
“What do you do for work? Can you tell me? Is it more producing work?”
“…Sometimes. That and other stuff.” His hand stroked my back.
What type of girlfriend didn’t know what her boyfriend did for work? For all that I did know about him, Summoner was still a mystery. A confusing man that I was determined to uncover layer by layer.
“I can’t believe I didn’t know there was a pool in here. This place is so big. Don’t you get lonely here by yourself?” I shifted gears.
“Sometimes. But the kids come over. Kay visits. Sometimes there are parties. It’s not doom and gloom all the time.”
“Friends?”
“Money has the power to close a lot of mouths.”
“Ah…So, parties?”
His chest rose and fell as he laughed. “I mostly provide the space. Kay does the hosting. Her friends. I usually stay hidden away.”
Neither of us spoke for a moment as the weight of Summoner’s past relationship hung around us. It was totally hypocritical for me to feel some type of way.
When are emotions ever logical?
“…Being honest, I hate her parties.”
“Why?”
“Because occasionally she’ll trot me out like a fucking show pony for the very important people. Scares me shitless.”
“Do you tell her no?” My brow furrowed. I didn’t like the idea of anyone bossing him around.
“Makes no difference.”
“Ah…” I swallowed. “Is that why you two divorced?”
“That may have had something to do with it. When I couldn’t keep doing what I was doing, she wasn’t the most supportive. But to be fair, I asked a lot of her. I was taking away the life we had built. I was and am a broken man. Kay needed her wings.”
“But you two stayed close?”
“Yeah. Having children together helped smooth out that relationship. I’m thankful for her friendship.”
“…Do you think you’d ever get married again?”
I sucked my bottom lip in between my teeth. That was definitely a question that should have remained a thought. My fingers spread out on his chest.
“I don’t think I’ve given it much thought. What about you?”
“I don’t know what I want,” I said too quickly.
“Fair enough.”
We were too new. There was so much against us. Conjuring up the thoughts labeled “future” made my heart ache. The future was a confusing mess of what-ifs. I could never see through the fog to make sense of anything. I just wanted now. Right now was all we could count on, and that had to be enough.
“Let’s get some sleep. Goodnight, sweetheart.” He kissed my forehead.
I snuggled in closer and closed my eyes. “Goodnight, Summoner.”
You…
I think everything I’ve ever wanted was you…
***
I woke up the next morning, rolled over to the other side of the bed, and pulled the blanket overhead.
Summoner’s scent filled my nose. I couldn’t help squealing as I buried my face in his pillow.
After I rolled around and maybe even humped the sheets a bit, I reluctantly climbed out of bed.
Teeth brushed, I dragged myself downstairs, still in my pajamas.
Summoner told me to make myself comfortable, and I intended to do just that.
I walked into the kitchen to find Moore stacking dishes into the dishwasher.
“Morning, Poppy,” he said without looking up.
“Hi,” I squeaked and tugged down the hem of my shirt.
“Would you like a cup of coffee?”
“Sure,” I scurried over to the kitchen island, sitting down.
Moore stood and wiped sweat from his brow. He flashed a smile before turning to the cabinet. A few moments later, he placed a plate of chopped strawberries, several pieces of bacon, and a slice of quiche in front of me alongside a steaming mug of sweetened coffee.
“Don’t thank me. Just doing my job,” he chuckled.
“This looks amazing.” I speared a piece of strawberry eagerly with my fork.
While I ate, Moore stepped out of the kitchen, returning a moment later with my laptop bag.
“Just in case you needed it.” He placed it on the counter.
“Thank you,” I mumbled, my mouth filled with food.
Moore shrugged me off and finished cleaning the kitchen.
Before I could even offer, he snatched away my empty dishes and cleaned them.
I opened my laptop and nervously clicked my Word document.
My stream-of-consciousness writing stared at me.
With a sip of coffee to steel myself, I read.
I hoped my writing wouldn’t make me cringe too hard.
Thankfully, my words were rough and messy, but reading them didn’t make me want to die. So I considered it a win.
During my second read-through of my story outline, my phone vibrated. Of course, it was a text from my boyfriend.
Summoner OMG: Snoring Beauty are you awake yet?
I rolled my eyes.
Poppy: Yes I am where r u?
Summoner OMG: In the library.
Poppy: Jesus what don’t you have in this place?!
Summoner OMG: :eye roll emoji: You really haven’t explored have you?
Poppy: im not nosey
Summoner OMG: :eye roll emoji: I think circumstance leads me to think otherwise.
Poppy: U could just tell me where you r
Summoner OMG: Library up the living room stairs and through the first door on the right.
I shut my laptop and set off to find Summoner. He was right—I hadn’t really taken the time to explore his space. The thought was kind of overwhelming.
The living room stairs led me to a sleepy wing of the penthouse.
Through the first door on the right was a wood-paneled library with matching, expensive-looking gold-bound books on all the shelves.
A plush gray couch sat in the middle of the room.
I ran my hand along the fluffy white blanket that covered the back cushions.
The space screamed upscale, and not for reading.
On the far side of the room, one of the signature floor-to-ceiling windows opened to a small patio.
Summoner pushed open the window and stepped through, carrying a guitar.
A gust of chilly air followed him. Grimacing, I hugged myself.
Dressed in a t-shirt and a pair of khaki shorts, the man wasn’t dressed for outside.
“Isn’t it cold out there?” I asked.
“Brisk.” He shrugged, as if his cheeks weren’t pink. “Spring is here.”
“I bet you don’t even read these books,” I playfully huffed.
“You’re not wrong. They are totally for show.” He sat down and motioned for me to join. I sat on the far end.
“I’d pictured your library being full of pulp paperbacks.”
“If only. Sadly, I didn’t design much of this space.”
“Who did?”
“Ah,” Summoner rubbed at the back of his neck, “Kay did.”
My nose wrinkled. Why did he need his ex-wife to help him design his space? Of course, I was too cowardly to ask. Instead, I turned my attention to the guitar Summoner rested against the couch. The muted light in the room reflected brilliantly off its worn lacquered surface.
“…Do you think you could play me something?” I asked quietly.
The corners of his lips jumped up. “Maybe I could.”
He rubbed his hands together before picking up the instrument. His fingers were drawn to the strings like magnets. Without striking a single chord, his fingers played, but no sound came out.
“What do you want me to play?” he asked without looking up.
“Well…Thundering Soul doesn’t really lend itself well to acoustic…so I guess I’d have you play Breathless.”
The transformation was more effortless than at the open mic night.
This show was private for him and me. The lines on Summoner’s forehead smoothed out as his fingers strummed the strings.
The coolness of his green eyes stared out across the room, not needing to look at me or his fingers.
His playing was effortless. My heart skipped a beat.
The shuddering pause sent a wave of heat through my chest. My breaths came in shallowly as I tried to absorb the wonder happening in front of me.
Slowly, musical notes swirled through the atmosphere, tying around each other again and again until they became a smooth sheet of melody.
My lips parted as Summoner’s voice joined the guitar.
The stain of under-use quickly faded, and his singing joined the guitar in a joyous rhapsody.
My body gently rocked back and forth, unable to absorb the effortless magic on display.
This was everything I ever wanted since I was a child, and now it was destroying me.
The air hummed and vibrated with the slick knowledge of the music it carried.
The silence that entered the room the moment he stopped playing was jarring.
There was music, bright and shiny in its weight, and suddenly there was nothing.
My pulse pounded. Summoner sat the guitar at his feet.
The moment the instrument was out of his hands, his body folded back into the couch. He let out a heavy breath.
“…How do you do that?” The awe and wonder in my voice was unmistakable.
“It’s been so long, I honestly couldn’t tell you…” he trailed off.
His tongue lashed out and licked his lips.
The little darting motion assaulted my overexcited body.
My hardened nipples strained against the fabric of my shirt.
A moan hummed in my throat. I pressed my thighs together, but nothing calmed my desire.
Summoner made me sensual. His aura captured me, heightened my senses, and turned me on.
Urges I had gotten used to living with exploded when I was near him.
I rolled my shoulders to steel myself. Carefully, I climbed off the couch and walked around to face Summoner.
I kept my eyes downcast to avoid his gaze.
With a deep breath, I dropped to my knees. The carpet nipped at my legs.
“…Poppy?”
Summoner’s voice rang in my ears. The higher note of him on edge helped rev me up.
The smirk on my lips felt freeing as I tossed caution to the wind.
I ran my hands up Summoner’s thighs. Under the fabric, I felt the muscles in his legs tense in anticipation.
I undid his button and zipper and pulled free his cock.
I’ve sucked my share of cock, but not rockstar cock. I wanted to get this right.
Summoner’s was the first uncut penis I’d seen in person.
I grabbed him with both hands. He was so thick and smooth.
I loved the feeling of him slowly growing from my caress.
Often, Summoner was the one in a position of power in our relationship.
It was to be expected. But there were these brief moments where hormones and desire allowed me to wield some power. Now, I was power-hungry.
I moved my hands down his shaft, exposing the head.
The tender, pink skin glistened with precum, activated by my touch.
I lashed my tongue across the tip. Summoner’s sharp gasp cut through the air.
His breathless approval was enough to push me further.
I sucked the head of his cock into my mouth.
The teasing taste of saltiness coated my tongue.
Slowly, as I was out of practice, I inched him into my mouth, taking him deeper.
His length pushed into my throat. I felt the desperate twitches of his dick as I reached the end of his shaft.
I lingered, impressed. Quickly, I pulled back, letting air hit his stiffness.
With a deep breath into my nose, I pulled him in again.
With one hand on the base of his shaft and the other fondling his balls, my mouth did all the heavy lifting. I sucked hard.
Summoner’s oversized hands tenderly held onto my hair. His hips rocked into my mouth as my pace evened out. A mix of saliva and precum dribbled over my lips and down my chin. I peeked up at Summoner. His eyelids were heavy, glossed over in ecstasy. His normally stern lips were slacked and parted.
I love this.
Summoner’s moans and calls to the heavenly father were anything but chaste. The grip of his fingers in my hair tensed and tightened. His release was near, and I was desperate to taste his completion.
“Poppy! God! I’m close…”
His hip thrusts sped up and became erratic. His dick twitched violently as the warmth of his release filled my mouth.
“Jesus fucking Christ Poppy!” Summoner muttered as I sat back on the carpet.
Beaming like a weirdo, I admired the disheveled Summoner, whose orgasm had melted him into the couch cushions.
“Fuck, sweetheart, what can’t you do?” he chuckled.
