CHAPTER NINE #4
She began with Dana's face, wiping away perspiration and the faint smudge of makeup beneath her eyes. Then her neck, shoulders, and breasts. The cloth passed gently over sensitive nipples. Dana inhaled.
"Too much?"
"No."
Brynn continued down her stomach and thighs. When she reached between Dana's legs, the touch remained careful and practical. Dana was tender enough that even the soft cloth produced a small tremor. Brynn stopped. "Color?"
"Green. Sensitive."
"I will be gentle."
She cleaned her slowly. Nothing in the act felt clinical despite the absence of sexual intent. Brynn handled her with the same attention she brought to every command, boundary, and refusal. Dana watched her. "You did not undress."
"No."
"Was that intentional?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because tonight was about your surrender."
Dana touched the back of Brynn's hand. "That sounds uneven."
"It was asymmetrical. Not unequal."
Dana considered the distinction. Brynn set aside the cloth. "Drink." She handed Dana a glass of water. Dana consumed half.
"All of it."
The familiar instruction soothed her. She finished.
Brynn offered a slice of fruit. Dana opened her mouth without reaching for it.
Brynn's gaze sharpened with approval. She fed Dana slowly: a strawberry, a piece of chocolate, two crackers.
The simplicity deepened the intimacy of everything that had happened before.
When Dana had eaten enough, Brynn set the plate aside.
"Tell me how you feel."
Dana rested her head against the edge of the tub. "Sore."
"Where?"
"Wrists. Knees. Between my legs."
"Pain level?"
"Two."
"Emotionally?"
Dana searched for the answer. "Exposed. Wanted. Tired." Brynn's expression softened. "You are wanted." Dana closed her eyes. Brynn helped her from the bath and wrapped her in a heated towel. She dried her carefully and examined the faint redness on her knees.
"No bruising."
"My schedule will remain scandal-free."
"Your knees are not included in the press briefing."
Dana almost laughed. Brynn guided her into a soft sleep shirt and underwear, then led her to the bedroom. Dana climbed beneath the covers. Brynn remained standing.
"Where are you going?"
"To change."
"You are staying."
"Yes."
The answer came immediately. Dana relaxed. Brynn changed in the bathroom and returned wearing soft trousers and a sleeveless shirt. When she climbed into bed, Dana turned toward her and placed one hand against her waist.
"May I touch you?"
"Yes."
Dana traced the line above Brynn's healing scar. "Did tonight hurt you?"
"No."
"Not even emotionally?"
Brynn considered the question. "It frightened me." Dana's hand stopped. "Why?"
"Because I wanted more. I wanted to push you further. I wanted to hear every sound you made and learn how much you would give me."
Heat stirred weakly through Dana despite her exhaustion. Brynn covered her hand. "I also knew I needed to stop when you used yellow."
"You did."
"Yes."
"Was that difficult?"
"Stopping was easy. Wanting was difficult."
Dana absorbed the honesty.
"Does that make you unsafe?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because desire does not control my choices."
Dana looked into her eyes. That certainty was the foundation beneath every intimate act. She moved closer. Brynn drew her into her arms. Dana rested her head against Brynn's chest.
"Did you enjoy what we did?"
"Yes."
"Did you enjoy controlling me?"
"Very much."
"Did you want me?"
"Constantly."
Relief moved through Dana. Brynn tipped her face upward. "You do not need to earn that answer."
"I know."
"You will forget."
"Probably."
"I will remind you."
Dana kissed her gently. The kiss contained no urgency now. Only closeness. When they separated, Dana remained against her.
"I love you."
Brynn's arm tightened. "I love you too." The words no longer felt terrifying.
They felt like structure. Dana's eyes began to close.
Brynn touched the back of her neck. "Are you ready to end the dynamic?
" Dana considered the question. She was warm, held, exhausted, and still deeply settled beneath Brynn's private authority.
"Not yet."
"What do you need?"
"Tell me what happens tomorrow."
Brynn understood. "You wake at seven. You eat breakfast. You attend the intelligence briefing at eight. I report for limited duty. We speak only professionally while I am working."
"Yes."
"You will not avoid looking at me because you are embarrassed."
Dana's face warmed. "I might."
"You will not."
The command carried gentle certainty.
"Yes."
"Tomorrow evening, we discuss what felt good, what did not, and whether any rule needs to change."
"Yes."
"And tonight, you sleep."
Dana's breathing slowed. "Will you hold me?"
"All night."
Dana closed her eyes. The office remained outside. Her body ached pleasantly, her mind was quiet, and the woman holding her knew both how deeply she wanted surrender and exactly when to return choice to her hands. Dana rested one palm over Brynn's heart.
"Then I am not ready to lead again."
"You do not have to be."
Brynn kissed her hair. Dana slept before the fire in the adjoining room burned down.
