Chapter 22 #2

“We’re leaving. Kiss your mother again.” Walker does as his father asks. “It is good to meet you, young lady. Take care of him for us.” He winks at me before kissing my cheek.

“He’s a keeper,” I whisper to Ian.

“What was that?” Walker narrows his eyes.

“Don’t be a stranger.” Cynthia hugs me warmly. I wish my mother hugged like this.

“I won’t.”

“Y’all be careful. It’s supposed to rain later.” Walker follows them to the door.

“You, too.” His mom smiles. “We’re going home now.”

“Bye.” Walker and I wave in unison as he shuts the door. He turns to me, arching his brow. “Why do you have my suit jacket on?”

I fall to the floor in a pile of hysterics, dying of laughter. “I couldn’t find my bra!”

Walker stands in front of me, stoic. “Reese.” I stare at him as he points to the couch.

“Oh. My. Hot. Damn.” I blink rapidly, turn a hundred shades of red. “Was it there the entire time?”

“Yeah, that’s why I fell over laughing. I thought I was hiding you and couldn’t figure out how they knew you were here.” He laughs uncontrollably.

“Not funny. Give me that.” I hurry from the floor, snatching it up. “Just in case someone else shows up.”

Walker follows me to the bedroom just as rain starts hitting the window. “Hungry?”

“Starving.” I hang his jacket up, turning to him. “I love your parents. They’re great.”

“Yeah, they are. We’re a lucky bunch.” He tugs his shirt over his head. “Shower first?” He fists my shirt, hauling me to him.

“Do I have a choice?”

He pulls it over my head. “No. I’ve done dirty, dirty things to you in this shower over the last few weeks.”

“You have? I don’t remember.”

“Yeah, it was my imagination and my hand but by God, you were in here.” He walks toward the bathroom with me in tow.

“Was I any good?” I ask.

He drops his pants and his cock springs free. “Damn good,” he growls, jerking my pants down. “Step.” I do as I’m asked. “Let me show you.”

Walker and I decided to meet in a conference room down from the judge’s chambers. I step through the door and into Walker’s arms. He closes it behind me, locking it. He pushes me into the door, and his lips land on mine. My heart races.

“Hello, Miss Morgan.” The deep and throaty words linger in my ear.

“You act as if you haven’t seen me all weekend.”

“It’s been hours. I needed to taste you.” He kisses me below my ear.

“Are you telling me you’ve forgotten me since this morning?”

He works his way down to my exposed breast. “God, no. I could never forget you. Or how you tasted on my tongue this morning.”

“Walker,” I moan, squeezing my thighs together. “We’re presenting soon, and I’d prefer to do that with dry panties. And your boner not looking at me.”

“My what? Forget it. If it means I get to bend you over this table, I’m down.” He kisses me again, but his phone buzzes. “Fuck.” He pulls out his phone while I’m pinned between him and the door. “Pennington.” Walker’s so close to me, I can hear Lachlan through the phone.

“Are you going to keep the lass locked in the room or are you coming to court?” He chuckles.

Walker ogles my exposed breast. “I’m staying here. I’ll push the papers under the door.” Walker doesn’t crack a smile.

Lachlan laughs so I can hear him outside the door. “Let her up and let’s get this done.”

“Fine. Give us two minutes.” Walker sighs heavily, ending his call. “We gotta go. I was really hoping to bend you over this table.”

“You have one at home.” I shimmy my boobs back in my dress.

“But it’s not here.” He pouts, watching me fix my top.

“Baby, you carry your gavel everywhere. We’ll get our chance.” He steps away, grabbing his briefcase.

“Let’s put this to bed.”

“I was trying to.” He rolls his eyes as I reach for the door. I unlock the door, swinging it wide to find Lachlan across the hall.

“Glad to see you survived. You two ready?” Lachlan smirks as we approach him.

“He did.” I elbow Walker, holding up the file up. “Let’s get these to the judge and wait.”

“I hope this works,” Walker murmurs to me as Lachlan walks ahead.

“It’s brilliant. You know it. No one loses. Although Lachlan pays more, it’s still the best deal.”

We sit on opposite sides as the judge enters the room. The bailiff enters the room, bringing our conversation to an end.

“All rise. The Superior Court of Brunswick County, State of North Carolina, is now in session. The Honorable Douglas Gibson presiding.”

“Be seated,” Judge Gibson orders. “Representation for The Coastal Carolina Historical Society and Daly Industries International present?”

“I am, Your Honor,” I answer.

“I am, Your Honor,” Walker says.

“I understand you’ve both brought several proposals to the table and each has been declined by one side, The Coastal Carolina Historical Society.

As stated previously, I am prepared to settle this litigation.

Mr. Daly’s offer is fair, and I must say, I’m impressed.

Keeping the building intact as a historical site and building around it is ingenious.

All other buildings will be preserved, and the main building serves as an entrance only to the restaurant.

The economic impact is tremendous. But the offer to allow The CCHS to continue working on the preservation of the property as a whole proves to me you have gone above and beyond to come to an agreement.

“The Superior Court of Brunswick County, State of North Carolina, hereby awards Daly Industries International the request to acquire parcel lot E-five-seventeen-eight. Case dismissed.” With the pound of his gavel, Judge Gibson concludes.

I turn to Walker, thrilled but restrained. He saunters over to me, his blue eyes burning deep. He offers his hand, and I take it gingerly.

“Miss Morgan, it’s been a pleasure to have worked with you.” He leans in, breathing heavily into my ear. “I can’t fucking wait to work you over.”

A delectable jolt in the pit of my belly knots deliciously. My cheeks flush as desire builds. “Thank you, sir. You’ve been incredible.”

He squeezes my hand, his nostrils flaring. “You know the way you say ‘sir’, it’s as if you need to call me that, Miss Morgan.”

My hand isn’t the only thing being squeezed. I give another twist to my legs. “I do. I need to.” I struggle to calm my breathing. We stare at each other until Lachlan clears his throat. We separate immediately.

“Excuse me. Just wanted to thank you both for your hard work.” Lachlan smirks on the word hard.

“You’re welcome. The proposal was amazing.” I shake his hand, glancing at Walker. “If you’ll excuse me, I need to get back to my office.”

“Of course. Thank you for all your help.” Walker shakes my hand again with a nod. “Miss Morgan.”

“Mr. Pennington.” I peek up at him coyishly before turning to Lachlan. “Mr. Daly.”

“Damn, you two. Miss Morgan, a pleasure.” Lachlan kisses my hand only to be greeted by an elbow.

“Have a good day.”
